The Pazuzu Explored - Most Nefarious Ancient Evil Has Terrifying Roots - Exorcist Monster
Ойын-сауық
The timeless horror classic The Exorcist has subjected many to nightmares, jump scares, and impromptu surges in faith in God after watching it because of all the lore and spooky tales revolving around the film and all that’s going on in the movie. Everyone is terrified of the Devil from the film, fearing that he might jump out of the screen and possess the person next to them. But that’s just it. The antagonist of the film wasn’t the Devil. In fact, the Devil wasn’t even there! The real antagonist was the eldritch demon of the underworld, Pazuzu. While the film shows, a glimpse of this demon, history, and legend suggests otherwise. Pazuzu was one of the coldest, most calculative evil monsters of the Mesopotamian civilization known to have dominion over the sky. He massacred the masses by corrupting them into doing evil and then subjecting them to eternal agony in the Great Abyss. In this video, we talk about Pazuzu’s origins, the mythology behind the Prince of the Demons, his followers in the modern-day, and the historically famous Amulet of Pazuzu found in the Sumerian text. Let’s begin, shall we?

Great exploration into Pazuzu. Absolutely fascinating video.
Literally gasped because I was not expecting that thumbnail while I was scrolling , brought me back to my childhood 😂
This movie, and the book it was based on, came from the last Catholic Church sanctioned exorcism of a young boy. Scared the beejeezous out of me as a kid.

The catcholic church still has ordained exorsists. And exorsisms are still being preformed especially in Italy and Spain when it comes to Europe.

Karras demanded that Pazuzu enter his body BEFORE leaping from the window. I don't think Blatty was going to put THAT much research into Pazuzu. He told Cinema Retro in 2011 ( when asked why he chose Pazuzu): " I had a photo of a statue of Pazuzu from the area of Nineveh in Iraq, and he was utterly ferocious-looking, so I picked him." He also references the statue-photo in the book called Satan, published by Sheed and Ward,1952 -- The same book Father Karras referenced from in the novel.

Hell yeah the 1970s
Father Damian Karras jumped through the window to what he hoped would be his death AFTER CHALLENGING the demon to jump into him, NOT BEFORE. And he didn't "ask" the demon to come into him, he DEMANDED it to jump into him and CHALLENGED it to jump into him.
Pazuzus statue also made an appearance in Wishmaster. Thought it was cool seeing Robert Englund as the museum collector. Great content, should go binge on the channel for a bit.
Contrary to what the movie showed us the Pazuzu from the sumerian mythology was not that evil. In fact people used to make amulets based on his image to protect the babies from his wife Lamashtu.

"I am no one" -Pazuzu
I always had a theory that in the original movie at least, Christian faith has little to no control over Pazuzu even during the exorcism. The demon essentially predicts what he’s going to do and how the priests will die. There’s also a quote from in the beginning when the Father is meeting with the man in Iraq and he says something like ‘evil against evil’ which like you said in the video is a reference to him constantly battling these other entities, so in a way it’s acknowledging that those pre-Christian deities exist, which wouldn’t make him a typical Biblical demon.
Okay beast head, wings, human body and serpent tail. We not gonna talk about his Wallace and Gromit hands?

Fun Fact: Futurama's Professor Farnsworth has a pet Gargoyle named Pazuzu....LoL 😂😂😂
Pazuzu in the original film was a troll. He wasn't scared of the priests and they never managed to hurt him. If you pay attention, he's as strong at the beginning of the exorcism as he is at the end.
think someone got there demonology and their dnd lore mixed up lol. "pazunia the first layer of the abyss" is 100% from the forgotten realms and isn't actually what the first layer of hell in Christian myth is.. the first layer of hell is purgatory in Christian lore. almost missed this, but when you said the word "oberith" i knew for sure... you got the forgotten realms version of pazuzu and the demon from the lesser key of Solomon mixed up.

In Catholicism. That’s where you find it. The Bible doesn’t speak of purgatory. And see the other thing is, he mentioned gargoyles being a servant of the demon pazuzu. But the thing is gargoyles come from Egyptian mythology. And weren’t shaped like bat creatures. They had lions heads. And we’re used as rain spouts. To help store rain.

@@Jonathanskits protestant, catholic.. it's same difference dude. my point was he was reciting dnd lore not Christian myth. who cares, a large portion of Christianity does think purgatory exists and is the first layer of hell. so i think my points still valid. didn't realize i was going to offend any protestants.
I killed Pazuzu and used it’s feathers to craft a relic weapon…and that was just the first step for this weapon.
Excellent
Don’t forget the part where he started singing “Rockit, Rockit, Rockit, Rockit…”.
nice vid
I love your video Can you do a video about circe dc comic
The best Pazuzu was John Cena in Sisters.
The statue of Pazuzu can be seen in the background of the Tom Cruise movie Legend.
Plot twist: pazuzu is an interdimensional being
Krum laughs at your four winds

If anyone has discovery plus there's a good documentary on the exorcist case The Exorcism of Roland Doe is the title.
We also refer to 'Pazuzu' as "Mothman" in more modern terms!

He is a member of the Udugs: dark shadows different from the elemental gods, born in the underworld and capable to posses people. Lamshtu is not a shadow demon (udug), but she is a evil dingir(gods of earth, wather, fire, wind, death ecc...). The father of Pazuzu...Hanbi or Hanpu...is praticaly a Dark Lord born in Hell, different from the underworld gods Ereskigal and Nergal.
Karras persuaded Pazuzu to possess him, but before the demon could take complete control, the priest hurled himself out the window.
Here's the funny thing believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.... right

Great video well done
Pazman ain't entirely evil, 'tho. He protects pregnant women and babies from Lamashtu. He kinda did that in the movie itself: What was Burke's doing in Reagan's bedroom? He was a creep, and 'Zu sent him to hell. And what are the odds of him hating Catholic priests?
Im not sure why, but the scariest portions of the movie to me were when odd things happened not directly tied to the priests exorcism and their attempt to save the girl. For example, the dream sequence, seeing pazuzus face flicker in the kitchen, the Mary statue that was desecrated, and seeing the demonic skull on the back of the girls door appear right after the mom leaves the room. But scenes with the girl (except for maybe the spider walk) the scenes didn't scare me whatsoever like alot of people here seem to claim.
Disneh's Goliath, the Gargoyle? Rude.
Omg his name is so damn silly i don’t know how anyone can say that name with a straight face
Fodder?
Then it made no sense for Catholic priests to do the exorcism since Pazuzu is from a time before Catholicism ever existed.
You mean like you did? Three times in a row man you should know better.
