This challenge was orchestrated by the Palo Alto Unified School District in February 2021. It asked participants to read and reflect daily on literature and media that focused on racial justice and racial equity. These are my reflections from the challenge.
I was awarded the PAUSD 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge Social Justice Award for these reflections that I posted on the daily community Padlet. This award was an affirmation that that my personal writings were recognized by the school district as valuable contributions to the work of racial equity in our city's public educational system.
Other equity awards and nominations I received from PAUSD in recent years are the "Commitment Award" from the 2022-23 Equity Literacy Leadership Cohort and a nomination from the Palo Alto Educators Association for the "Making a Change - Student Advocacy" award. I write this solely to emphasize that my racial equity and advocacy work has been met with approval and appreciation by the Palo Alto Unified School District.
