The Partridge Family 1970 - 1974 Opening and Closing Theme

The Partridge Family is an American musical television sitcom series starring Shirley Jones and featuring David Cassidy. Jones is a widowed mother, and Cassidy plays the oldest of her five children who embark on a music career. It ran from September 25, 1970, until March 23, 1974, on the ABC network as part of a Friday-night lineup, and had subsequent runs in syndication.
The family was loosely based on the real-life musical family The Cowsills, a popular band in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the pilot episode, a group of musical siblings in the fictitious city of San Pueblo, California convinces their widowed mother and bank teller, Shirley Partridge, to help them out by singing as they record a pop song in their garage.
Through the efforts of precocious ten-year-old Danny, they find a manager, Reuben Kincaid, who helps make the song a Top 40 hit. After more persuading, Shirley agrees that the family can go on tour. They acquire an old school bus, a 1957 Chevrolet Series 6800 Superior, for touring, paint it with Mondrian-inspired patterns, and depart to Las Vegas, Nevada for their first live gig at Caesars Palace. Subsequent episodes usually feature the band performing in various venues or in their garage. The shows often contrast suburban life with the adventures of a show business family on the road. After the first season, more of the show's action takes place in their home town rather than on tour.

Probably the first TV show I ever remember watching as a child. "Hey there world, it's a song that we're singin..." What do kids see these days as their first bit of TV. Does anyone sing about love and making people happy at the start of a TV show today? David Cassidy, RIP...

Yeah, this intro and show is an early childhood memory. I distinctly remember the serious, no-nonsense look of the big mama partridge (and her brood), and the matter-of-fact kicking of the eggshells as something not to be taken lightly. I like unsmiling intros on otherwise funny shows (the Scrubs intro used that effect as well)

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the video game Kirby's Epic Yarn. Not that that's a bad thing. The Kirby games have always had a happy-go-lucky feel to them, and Kirby's Epic Yarn is the one Kirby game that emphasizes that the most (IMO).

David Cassidy will live on in the music he left behind with his wonderful voice and talent and with this funny show about a family that has a band that travels and plays gigs. Sounds crazy but this actually exists in real life. There are bands out there composed of families that tour. The show to me has held up rather well and I love the struggles between Keith, Danny and Rueben Kincaid. I always laughed at their infighting. I try to catch it on reruns whenever I can. It’s still funny to me. And Shirley Partridge I always found to be one beautiful lady. I liked her a lot. Stunning actually! I had a mad crush on her. RIP David-You won’t ever be forgotten

The 1970s was an amazing time to grow up in America. If it all falls ; Lucky are we; who lived in a Pink and Green Polyester Paradise ! Lucky to have the fun and silly memories . (Imagine being a little kid during 9/11 and then a college aged or young adult when the wonderful "thing" happened in March 2020?) . THUMBS UP for those of us that lived and grew up from 1970 thru 1979.

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the video game *Kirby's* *Epic* *Yarn*. Not that that's a bad thing. The Kirby games have always had a happy-go-lucky feel to them, and Kirby's Epic Yarn is the one Kirby game that emphasizes that the most (IMO).

That is definitely David Cassidy singing, and it’s more than likely Shirley Jones singing background. The other members of the cast couldn’t sing, but those two were already performers before they got on that show.

@@geraldobrien7323Shirley Jones had been a Broadway singer and movie musical singer in the 1950s, but won her Academy Award in 1960 for the movie Elmer Gantry, in which she played against type, a prostitute. She and David Cassidy were stepmother and stepson in real life. Shirley Jones is alive and well at age 89 and has had many prominent singing roles and concerts since The Partridge Family had first aired from 1970-1974. She had bern the biggest marquee name for all on the show. Susan Dey later played lawyer Grace Van Owen on L.A. Law on NBC-TV from 1986-1994.
