I love my Rez. I never left, and looking back It was a double edge sword… the lack of opportunities, and the high substance abuse was a factor, but I also spent a lot of time with elders, storytellers, singers and those who know the land and traditions…. Turning 40 this year and I understand it is my duty to champion those traditional values that guided me through those dark times.

@@Timewave-Zer0 Cannabis is not native to the Americas. Cannabis is believed to have evolved on the steppes of Central Asia, in the regions that are now Mongolia and Southern Siberia. It was introduced to Africa, and from there it spread to various regions of the world, including South America, through human migration and trade. Cannabis was introduced into the Americas by European Colonizers. Now it is said that Native Americans do have a history of smoking Cannabis, however thousands of years is incorrect. Hundreds at most, and it was in very limited quantities. Native Americans have been smoking Tabacco and Kinnikinnick for a very long time though.

Would you really be upset at someone receiving something if that person doesn't have anything? Why? Do you think if they are treated like humans than you can't be treated like a human? You're the type that would be made at someone that has nothing because our society gives them cheese and milk. How sad are you? You must be really lost if you think weed has no future.

Most of the tribes in Nevada are growing their own weed, and have dispensaries. Nevada tribes don't have casinos because it's not really worth it since there are casinos everywhere and slot machines everywhere, including 7-11 and grocery stores. My tribe (I know I'm white passing but I'm over 80% indigenous) is the Reno Sparks Indian Colony. We have 2 dispensaries and 75% or more of the marijuana products we sell are Nevada tribes' products from all over Nevada. We have more businesses, than a smoke shop. We have land that we rent out to big businesses and get to keep the taxes from the sales. We have a Walmart, a Mercedes dealership, a car max, and one more dealership that's just changed and idk what it is now, and we used to have a taco bell as well, but we turned it into a dispensary. We don't get money from our businesses, as far as individuals like monthly checks, like the Southern Paiutes, but we have a lot more people compared to them, prob 1500 or so members. The problem with getting money every month is what is happening to the Southern Paiutes. They won't lower their blood quantum because if they do, many more people will be eligible to become members and that means less money for the ones that are already members. It's not about keeping the culture. Look at those kids. They are a part of the culture. My tribe is also 1/4, but we are made up of 4 tribes, northern Paiute, Washoe and Shoshone. It used to be 1/4 of one type of the tribes I listed above. We just "lowered" it to be a mix of the above tribes blood. Because Paiutes were marrying Washoes, and Shoshones and vice versa, so kids had a mix of the blood. They could be almost half and not be a member of our tribe. Now, as long as they are 1/4, of a mix of blood, they are eligible.

Cannabis can't help educate Native Las Vegaans currently and the casinos also. Maybe it can work out barriers many endure as Las Vegaans.

Wow I love these people. In América we have so many great people but what we are doing now letting all these people in the country without proper filings is so dangerous especially to places like this as sad as that is to say.

As someone who has European Ancestors, the way the Natives Protect and keep on passing down their traditions and Culture is admirable. I wish we could do the same with Anglo/Germanic things. Preservation of Ones Culture is essential.

As someone who lives in England with friends from uni in germany... we're doing fine preserving our traditions don't worry But our traditions are just general christian stuff , it's just that you don't think of those traditions as just that... traditions. Christ was born in April, but xmas is in december to overwrite english Pagan holidays. Chat bollocks somewhere else mate

When it comes to 'blood quantum' I'm part Mohawk. The last person that could have qualified for tribal membership was my grandpa I think. But he considered himself white, even though it was obvious he was mixed race. He looked native, but had his German father's blue eyes. He could have walked through a res, and no one would have noticed he was mostly white unless you saw his blue eyes. My immediate neighbors are on the tribal roles. The Cherokee Nation are a lot more forgiving on the blood quantum with Alvie (and my one aunt), and the lady and her son are Navajo I think (or maybe Apache, I'm not sure). I wish I had gotten the dark skin living in Arizona, but no, all I got was the long torso, arms, spatulate teeth, and lactose intolerance. My mom and dad looked like salt and pepper shakers next to each other as my dad was pretty dark. But no, I got my red headed grandpa's skin. Thanks grandpa.

I grew up in Reno, Nevada...I am half native, but as a blue-eyed blonde man, they said I am not native. Check out how much Native they have as the tribe leaders... that's the problem. Both sides need to stop looking at how we look and understand the people can be all colors now.
