unaliving yourself is the most selfish thing you could do to the people that you love too many young people are so willing to do it... and not knowing what you want to do in life or being trapped in a nowhere job when you have so many others ways to find excitement in life is by no means a valid reason to sink that low. i hope you never have to deal with real adversity and i hope you never know what i mean.

I'm a 40 years old failed musician from Indonesia, so even when I'm much older than Taneda, I can deeply relate with him and his struggles. To be honest, I'm also heavily depressed and often thinking of su*cide. Life is pointless & meaningless now for me. I've also disappointed my (Chinese-Indonesian) father, whose financially-struggling businesses I still am not interested in working, or doing anything else. Everyday I kept thinking and ask myself why do I still live? For what? I don't fit in this society/world; I feel so alone that nobody understands me & my mind inside. Everything is pointless now. Maybe I should stop existing. Sorry for oversharing.

As a nihilist, I've asked myself those same questions for years, and tend to feel like I'm missing something. Having my own su*cidal thoughts in the past, it's amazing how life can surprise you if you can manage to hold on. I can never understand exactly what you've been through, but at the very least, I can offer support and encouragement. From watching you play piano to looking across your channel, it's very clear how passionate and skilled you are when it comes to music. Music is one of the few things I truly love and appreciate, and I want to thank you for bringing more of that into a world that needs it. I'm sure that you've helped others as well with those performances. I hope that an opportunity will open up for you in the near future. Whether it be continuing on your path, or changing things along the way, I hope that you choose to keep trying. If you can, it might also help to open up and talk with someone you trust. Make sure to also set aside time to relax; recovering your mental state is a process, but well worth the investment. Find positive things to focus on. Eat well and stay hydrated. Please don't blame yourself for living a life that involves doing what you love. I hope that helps even a little. Take care of yourself, fellow struggler.

Wright that, and I don't mean that in the stereotypical way, I genuinely mean it. I've never had depression although I've had thoughts of just disappearing never been born, never dying, and never living. And so I wrote that down. Try writing a poem maybe than yelling out the line that is most important to you.

Honestly, I totally relate to what you are saying. I felt the same struggles and felt like garbage for not being able to do anything. But I did some soul searching, tried a different treatment to my anxiety and depression, and came to the question of "what makes me the happiest doing it" After finding the answer, that is what I being working to do. I am extremely lucky, I can take my time without consequences. I know not everyone has this privilege. But even if you life situation is different than mine, I genuinely hope you can find what makes you the happiest and that you can still enjoy this life you have

Please don't give up hope. Maybe think about how you can use your gift to impact others, money is good but touching others with your gift is far more valuable. You are here for a reason, it may not be immediately obvious right now, but we are all here for a reason ❤️ I know that in other places there is emphasis on doing well and succeeding, but there is something beautiful to be found in simply sharing one's love of the arts with others. Music is a powerful thing, it moves people inside and out. I hope you find the strength and reason to keep living, sending hugs from Canada.

Solanin hit me hard reading it at a point where i graduated high school heading into college to a field i knew was more of a compromise to my parents almost exactly like Taneda and his father. It felt very real and prophetic to my future which i feared endlessly. Meiko playing solanin during that show was the first time i cried reading a manga and ill never forget it.

I forgot about this story. I read it in high school and it hit me pretty hard but mostly from fear. I was going into an art major where I knew many people would end up in unrelated jobs not fulfilling their initial dreams. I didn't want that to happen and I had a lot of the same fears and anxieties as these characters. Now, as an adult a few years out of college, this story makes me sob. I'm exactly where those characters were now. I quit a job that was unfulfilling and a toxic environment only to feel lost and wandering for the past few months. Now I'm reassessing my goals and what life can look like for myself. It's hard and scary and full of compromises. But I also know this isn't a unique experience. I just understand the story on another level now.

I've always found it interesting how certain works can hit differently over time, either in the moment or retroactively. While Solanin can easily be enjoyed while younger, I think it works especially well after experiencing those first real years of "life." I also went to college, but got a degree for something I ended up not being interested in. After finishing that, I've pretty much been drifting around, not really sure what it is I should be doing. If nothing else, you've taken a good first step towards figuring things out. A lot of us are going through those same struggles, so hopefully you can take a little comfort in knowing that we're all doing what we can. Keep taking those small steps, I'm sure something will line up eventually. Thanks for sharing your experience, wishing you the best :)

This story is a masterpiece, it tells the struggles of young adults needing to make that step toward their future while leaving behind the remnants of their childhood. While some are lucky enough to fully make their childhood dream a reality guaranteeing even financial stability, others have to accept reality and compromise. There’s no shame in that though, as kids we fantasise and only wish for the extraordinary, but as adults there are treasures to find and protect even in the ordinary, and there can be happiness in that. Particularly I love the symbolism in this story: the bridge is an allegory to becoming adults, crossing it means to stop being a child; the sky which used to feel so big slowly turns suffocating and sits lower on the city. This is my favourite video from you yet, for some reason. And I read what you responded to a guy below the comments, struggling with his life, you’re a big person.

I'm 30 rn and Solanin still hits hard because you go by and you keep going by and time's running out: you aren't in high school anymore, you aren't in college, you are getting old to start something. If you didn't do then, if you wasn't happy then, you can't be anymore. It's rather bleaky, but it's also kind of a relief to realize people on the other side of the world are struggling the same. Maybe the time is just irrelevant, maybe everyone's just kinda lost and ok. I guess it's okay, we do as we can with whatever we got, so. ❤

Although I like this manga a lot, I've still never found anything that relates to me except for one song(it's not a good song so I won't say it). But I wonder, is there anyone in this world like me? I know we're all different yet we all have similar goals. We all say we know who we are but we change even to our last breaths. So do we really know who we were. The answer is yes and no but we still seek more.

I never thought that even when I was a kid I could see that becoming an adult just meant the end of everything and happiness I never look forward to it and always thought it was b******* because I watched the adults I always watched everyone they didn't seem happy most of them seem mired by stress and things at the time that I couldn't fully understand but even as a younging I didn't think being an adult was anything to aspire towards

Watched this vid after seeing the title, figured it'd be about some series where a young adult struggles in life, then, idk, sees their dreams fulfilled or somehow sees their issues sorted out or something, which piqued my interest, considering my own situation. Hearing about the actual story though is honestly depressing to me. I get that the ending was supposed to be positive or have a good meaning or something, but that makes it all the worse to me. One main character's life simply got cut short and that's where his story ends, and the other basically just makes peace with the fact that her life is mediocre. Sure it is better than her being miserable, but this is too painfully realistic in a saddening way.
