The Oxventurers Guild - Corazón, Oh Corazón (a cappella Cover)

Музыка

Well, first time that I've tried to do some sort of "Mini-Choreography" in the video… Could have been better to be honest. 😅
You should definitely check out all Oxventures ( • The Spicy Rat Caper Pt... ) by Outside Xbox ( / outsidexbox ) and Outside Xtra ( / @outsidextra )!
This song was actually featured in their last Campaign :)

    Maurice Zimmermann definitely did 😅 got some advice for a starter? 🙈

  • @MomoCoverMusic

    @MomoCoverMusic

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@AngelClevaIn the context of singing or arranging? For the singing: Start with simple stuff and probably not even with a cappella itself. Try to sing a harmony to a song. If you found that harmony, try a second one. If you feel comfortable with that you can try to find some free arrangements on the internet that you can try to sing. You might have to transpose some of the stuff into a range that is comfortable for you, but that should be no problem for you. I saw that you are already making some pretty good music! :) A good place to start (even though I can only speak for men) are barbershop tags. These are usually 4 part voicings (tenor, lead, baritone, bass) and range from pretty simple stuff (for example the "sleepy time down south"-tag) to arrangements with pretty spicy jazz chords. You can also get in touch with some other KZreadrs and ask if they want to collaborate with you. (I can recommend Julie Gaulke and Stefan Wyatt. Both have already done some virtual choir projects and I'm pretty sure that there will be more in the future.) But the most important thing: Know your limits and rediscover them from time to time. When I started to do a cappella music I had like 1.5 - 2 octaves where I was able to sing more or less comfortable. Now it's 3.5 - 4 (depending on the day). The worst thing I did was to pressure myself into extending my range too fast. Become confident with the intonation of your range and build on that afterwards to extend that range. And if you have the money: Get a vocal coach. Obviously that's not just a valuable advice for a cappella but in general for a fellow musician. Sometimes they can give you one simple trick and you hit notes without any problem that where a pain in the butt before. For the arranging: For the start: Just sing what sounds good and natural to you. After some time you can dig a little bit more into the theory and try to figure out what you can do with the basic chords from the song. You also might want to get to learn some basic rules like: You should not have multiple thirds in a voicing or you should not move in parallel fifths. These rules can obviously be broken but sometimes, when a certain section of an arrangement doesn't quite sound right, this might be the case. (In other cases these rules are total nonsense. Take for example every genre that uses powerchords and you'll have parallel fifths all over the place.) Now you can try to add some notes that are not directly in the chord you are playing: In other words: you can play with some extensions. How does a D sound like in a C Major chord? How does it sound in a C Minor Chord? How does it make you feel and does this feeling fit to the message of the song? Do you actually want to contrast the happiness of the lyrics with a bittersweet sounding chord? Do you think that a certain chord fits better to your interpretation of the song than the original one? If I haven't lost you to this point and you want to go even further you can check out all the music theorists here on YT. (Adam Neely, 12tone, Sideways, 8-bit Music Theory; and if you really want your mind to be blown: The Jacob Collier interviews by June Lee) With that you can see how other musicians for example provoked a certain feel in a song. If you understand the concept of an idea, you can use it without stealing it. But what Jacob Collier (probably one of the most creative musicians on this planet right now) is always pretty clear about: You should never just go with the theory and with the ideas that are objectively "correct". Some feelings just can't be reproduced with the 12 notes on the piano and the division in 8th or 16th notes. (more on that in the interviews) All that theory is a nice way to analyse stuff and get going, but at some point you risk loosing all your creativity if you concentrate too much on it. I hope that this was "some advice" enough and that everything was more or less clear. It's 4:15 AM and I should definitely be in bed instead of trying to explain stuff in a foreign language :D But please let me know if you have any further questions. You might already see that I love to talk about that stuff 😁

    @@MomoCoverMusic Wow thanks so much for that :D I'm actually from austria and I can hear a little bit of a german accent in your singing so I guess we could talk german if that would be more comfortable? I did my Matura (Abitur) in Music and my speciality has always been music theory so you didn't loose me in your explenation too far. And I love talking about this stuff too although I just have to learn a lot more... If you'd like we could chat a little bit more over on Twitter.
