I mean some people prepare for battle by summoning faction or getting into stances, others do so by taking swigs from their flask.😄

One great thing I don’t see praised enough is the transitions, they’re Edgar Wright level, the movement brings your visual attention to where the next character will be. This is most notable at 0:51 Where Fjord’s movements transition perfect into Nott’s, making it incredibly easy on they eye. This is also shown in the fact that the characters are almost always dead centre, this means that the watcher doesn’t need to move their sight so much and so more time can be spent paying attention to the animation. Whoever did the animation deserves a an award or two.

More examples: 0:13 The iris of the eye is in centre, then zooms inward to get Fjord, remaining in centre. 0:20 Beauregard’s fist movements cleanly follow through to Nott’s footsteps, allowing our eyes to easily follow the action. 0:27 Jester opens the door in centre, and remains centre on the other side, and still again when leaving, keeping it easy on the eyes. 0:33 Jester is (again) in the centre and Caduceus’ hat allows for more easy tracking to the next shot, where it is caught and leads right to the bottom of the smoke at 0:34, allowing us to track it when it slides up. I’d continue but I’d be here all day.

Because now it's not just a mental image. Now it's a visual thing. The moment they buried Molly was so visceral is it was the moment the went from a rag tag group that would do good but were not a cohesive group to now they have cohesion and a reason to become the heros they would become. It's what made the three free members decide to stick around and fight for their people so they wouldn't lose any one else if they could help it.

As the show has continued, more details have appeared for example Sometime after Caleb and Nott fully reveal their backstories in ep 49 "A Game of Names" a reflection of Veth can be seen for a frame or two at 0:19 before Nott's foot lands in the puddle. (Its still in the latest ep [106] intro and 0.25x speed is helpful)

Keep at it! You're actually about halfway to the 2nd (and much better) opening for the first campaign. Episode 50 starts that one. Once you start C2, you'll get the funky 70's style intro and this one kicks off at C2E44.

@lil crispy The trick is to have the videos playing in the background while you do something else and merely listen to the games. I personally paint miniatures while listening to them and just glancing up to my screen if something special is happening between the cast =D

@lil crispy for the first 50 ish episodes,I would listen while shinyhunting (hatching eggs untill a Pokemon with a abnormal color hatched) but after that the show became so interesting and I became so invested that I now the episodes have my full attention so I can see the minis,and more importantly,the faces of the cast.

I have a son 9 months old... When he first heard this song, his eyes lit up. It is his favorite song of all, and just humming the melody makes his snap around to find the song. He even gets mad if we don't find it fast enough :D

It looks like she draws on the additional darkness of the shadows, as the detailing around her legs and arms is suctioned towards her centre before returning.

Whenever I feel like I'm losing some steam as a DM, I like listening to this track. It gets me right back in the mood.

I love how my first time watching this was my introduction to critical role when I was hanging out with my sister-in-law over Christmas and I loved this animation the first few times I watched it. Now, revisiting it after watching a chunk of The Mighty Nein, I can recognize background characters, battle scenes, and I understand the hints or flashes of character backstories and I just think that's pretty neat

God, seeing Molly's grave marker fucking hits me EVERY time... I've had more feelings over his character dying than my own

1:07 one thing that I love about the idea of building a story as a DnD campaing, it's that all it's bound to the dice, a death can come at any moment, either they (Matt and friends) want it or not.

Yeah. I got to agree with you there. Especially if you watch it at different speeds. x2 for the fast paced sessions, x0.5 for the slow ones. If you empathize with watching it at x0.25, though, you got issues ;P

I still get chills whenever I listen to this.

I love how they characterize Matt as a veiled figure constantly puppeteering the enemies.

Yeah, the funky intro was fun for the first 5-10 episodes, but it started to get old after that. This is, I believe, the longest running intro they've had since starting the show, and I still love it every time.

Just gonna say, I'm almost through half of C2, and it took me about 4 months to watch C1. You have literally over 1000 hours of video ahead of you, so be warned. Even if every episode were only 4 hours in length, you could only get through 6 episodes in one day -- and there are 115 episodes for C1, not counting one-shots (of which there are three), and 141 episodes of C2. That literally translates into 256 episodes, with roughly 1,024 hours of time to invest. Literally, if CR was a seasonal show with a 1-hour timeframe, and a 22-episode seasonal schedule, there would be 46.5 _years'_ worth of content to watch.

I love how at 1:28, the characters are standing in the order that they'd be sitting in

I always thought the bit at 01:16 was Beau's ki flaring up somehow, but now I actually watch Caduceus during that bit and you're right. Also explains that energy's colour, if the crystal in his staff is factoring into it.

Just thinking about the shot with Caduceus when they show Taliesin's name. There's a butterfly in the shot and Cad watches it and I think that's like so important and stop me if you heard this before I want to get this brain fart out. The animators are Filipino so like while the shot with Molly's coat and Raven!Vax means so much, in the Philippines, whenever a relative/loved one dies, if you see a butterfly nearby, that's their spirit and they're watching over you and like I'm gonna think about this for a while. It's like the ravens, I guess.

That is so interesting, in Greek Mythology butterflies *are* the souls of the dead. The word psyche means butterfly but also mind/soul (modern greek has its own word for butterfly I believe) I think it's fancinating that different cultures far appart have similar associations with this

It would be nice to see an end-of-campaign version with updated characters :)

The thing is once you start watching the series all of this begins to make way more sense

1:11 This part always gives me creeps. The scenery, the singing and music, and the butterfly, which represents Molly's death. The combination just gets me everytime

I love this infinitely, it reminds me a lot of the Castlevania title sequence with its smooth transitions and it’s glorious.

Almost 5 years later and this intro still goes hard.

There are certain bits of animation I hyperfixate on and can't get out of my head, and the shot at 1:24 of the camera swooping under the party is one of them, it's SO GOOD

I haven’t watched the episode yet but I’m already heartbroken.

I got my 70 year old mother to start watching CR2 this last summer and she's HOOKED on Episode 13, (The Cerberus Assembly and The Krinn Dynasty just had their first appearance fighting over the Dodecohedron). She love it now, and has NO idea what she's in for. Good god how did this campaign become one of the greatest stories ever told.

Came back here after the MN animated series announcement.
