And I get the impression they have respect and affection for their fans American stars are pretentious and rather phony by comparison. I am utterly charmed by the Koreans.

Agreed. I don’t think there is a single American star that has gone through the hardships that so many kpop stars endure. They would never make it, they don’t have the discipline or perseverance.

Question. I barely know super junior or the members. I discovered eunhyuk on Why Not series and fell under the spell of his charm. Is he truly in a couple with D ..? I thought being gay was very difficult to admit in Korea? They are absolutely adorable together. Are they simply best friends or more? Eunhyuk seems lovable so could see how anyone would fall for him :-). But is it just faking for the fans or real or we just don't know ?

Hmmm... Eunhae's relationship is a bit difficult to explain. They are indeed best friends, but they are extremely close. SJ are very close with each other, but eunhae are closer than that. They matched their military vacation days to meet each other, they went to see the new year sunrise every year together, they wear the same clothes (donghae is known for taking and wearing Eunhyuk's clothes). We, the fans are confused too. We are well aware that all these moments on stage might be just fan services. But sometimes, other SJ boys are quick to separate these two, like there's something going on. hahaha we might be delusional, idk. It's true being gay is difficult in Korea. Look at Holland. And even being neutral about it caused negative impact as well (Heechul and Jo Kwon). The boys MIGHT have romantic feelings for each other. But because of the society and family's expectation, they probably will get married to women. Whatever the end is, I'm gonna accept it with an open heart. To me, eunhae are soulmates. They understand each other, and they can handle each other (although they have different personalities) and this goes beyond whatever relationship they might have in the future. :)

Eunhyuk and donghae is hard to explain whether they're real or not . You need to check them up to know theyre real or not. And I'm sure you will get confused like us eunhae shipper. Because after 6years I ship them I still confused and I know I can't put a lot of hope for them to become real like you said it is hard to admit you're gay in Korea . If they aren't real,I think I willl be really broken hearted but it doesn't stop me to keep loving them if they marry a woman and start a family.

They're definitely not faking being close. There's no way anyone can fake it that well for 13+ years. Even strip away all the fan services on stage, you can still see that they know each other very well, they mirror each other's demeanor so much, they can bounce off each other's stupid jokes, all signs of them spending a lot of time with each other. Do they have a romantic or sexual relationship? Don't know, tbh neither seems gay. But definitely friendship love.

But I take heart in the GOOD ways it's changing -- that love is love and we should all be free to be in love with whomever we please. And gay rights will continue to gain until there is no fear and hatred. These guys are the cutest. I wish I knew them personally and that I spoke Korean, hahaha
