Jason Statham worked in the Yarmouth market with his dad long ago. I am ashamed to say I lived in Gorleston for 20 years and worked in Yarmouth, and this is all very new to me, shocking to admit. I worked for a while in the parks and gardens in the 70s.

My dad's family lived in gt Yarmouth so spent most my childhood there I also lived there for 2 years I went to greenaches school by the pleasure Beach, my nan lived in a flat by the key opposite the pub the clipper schooner, I no nearly every inch of Yarmouth but as a child didn't appreciate the history of the town , I remember all those walls when I got off the bus from school I had to walk under one of the tunnels that took me to friars Lane a great place in its day .

Really love your style. You are so passionate about Great Yarmouth. It must have played a big part of your personal history. Love delving into your little works of art from a year ago, and seeing how you are so confident. Thanks for sharing your family with me. I am in my 70’s and broke my back 4 years ago and rarely get out. Thank you Tim😊

Those old walls are fascinating. Usually they are made of brick or blocks of stone but those seem to be a combo of brick and small rocks. Thanks for the tour, I appreciate history.

Great video. Some of the places are worth a video in themselves. My parents actually scaled the steps of Neslons monument when they were young. There was an old wives tale that the architect who put it up meant it to look out to sea and when he realised it was pointing inland, he threw himself off 😆. Total rubbish of course as it faces Burnham Thorpe where Nelson was born. Opposite the monument, there used to be a racecourse and an airfield used during WW1. Under Sainsburys car park are the plague pits where victims were buried. So much to see. Thanks.

Nice one. Time marches on but Yarmouth's history is one of those well-kept secrets. As I understand it, Lydia Eva only fished for a few years after being built and then went off to war service at the end of the '30s. Her return & restoration in the '70s was a major event for the town culminating in her participation in a Tall Ships Festival which was quite fantastic to see.

Lots of tips for my second adventure in Great Yarmouth. The town within a town. There are areas like Salisbury and Marlborough combined with York and Birmingham. Then the centre of industrial wealth that crash into the sea side. Finally a front with all the worst and best of the so called traditional resort. Roller coasters and fun fare with this massive beach. Something for everyone. The Victorian vision has been bruised by generations but like the town walls it will be still appreciated by the holiday crowds including me.

Hello there. I’ve watched a few of you vids and have subscribed, they’re very good. I spent all summer of 1982 fixing video games and one armed bandits in arcades in Yarmouth, I nearly bought a place there. I recognise most of the town including the walls and the old buildings. You only need to walk along the beach a mile to the north to be in wild dunes. Lovely to see it again, it was the last place I lived in the UK I moved to France in Oct 82. Thanks again.

Hi. Love your walks videos. Just to mention the toll house dates back much further back than 200 years, as The Tolhouse (also the Tolhouse Gaol) is a 12th-century building in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. So it's much much older (1101 - 1200). So in places Great Yarmouth is far much older than perhaps first thought, love the history of our country no wonder so many people from other parts of the world love to visit, if only we here appreciated what we have here. Thank you 👍👏

Very interesting. I'm amazed to see so many little shops. Our town is absolutely dead these days dispite many tourists, I supose no one has much spare cash after paying English heritage £30 to access Stonehenge or £10 to see the cathederal. Another factor maybe that people only come here as part of a tour for the morning or afternoon before heading to Bath or elsewhere. It just goes to show how places thrive better when the money stays in the community.

My home town. My parents still live in the Town. The "old Market" was built around 1990, before that it had no canopy, you can see what it looked like on the video, with the picture from cica 1970. During the summer in the 70's & 80's the market on Friday's & Saturday's would cover all the area of the new market, right up to outside the Fisherman's Hospital. Nelson's Monument was open to the public during the summer in the 1980's, I remember going up it in the mid 80's. It was a bloody lot of Stairs and very narrow.

Yarmouth is a town utterly soaked in incredible history but sadly a combination of bad management by the town council, terrible transport links and the willingness of local businesses to market the place as a rock bottom price destination for pissed up caravan holidays all of that is overshadowed by its sad (but in some ways deserved) reputation as a neglected seaside doss hole with little to offer 'real' tourists.

Nice vid Tim I was born and bred in Great Yarmouth the town has a lot of history and is a very interesting place to search up on ,One thing you mentioned was it having over 100 Pubs where as I am pretty sure there was a different Pub for every day of the year meaning there was over 365 in the late 19th Century. Another old Yarmouth saying was there was a Pub on every street corner, There is a website about all the pubs that were in Yarmouth well worth searching up,

We were meant to ge going to Norwich Castle, but itvwas closed so we went to the Time and Tide museum instead. Very interesting place to visit.

Tbh the new market just looks like a giant wooden barn in middle of the street. Looks so strange on outside, nice on inside, walking out the regular shops to a giant barn blocking the view lol Their are some nice areas to stroll to away from the seaside area.
