I think it’s pretty obvious that starlight was made cause they wanted a character similar to Sunset for FiM without actually using Sunset since FiM loves to go out of its way to never mention EG

@@MILDMONSTER1234 I think you're right that Starlight was probably based on Sunset, even their names sound similar when you say them out loud, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer. But I doubt it was in an effort to not mention EG cuz it wouldn't really make sense for Sunset to be Twilight's pupil. It would mean Sunset would have to abandon all of her friends in the human world just to be Twilight's student, and I'm pretty sure at this point, Sunset is closer to Sci Twi than actual twilight. Plus it's part of Sunset's character that she feels responsible to protect the human world from equestrian magic so leaving the human world for Twilight would make even less sense.

Sunset and Starlight actually have similar personalities. The biggest difference between the two is that Starlight is an introvert and controls others through manipulation, while Sunset, as an extrovert, simply dominates people with violence. The two complement each other perfectly, which is why I finally have to continue writing my story. With Starlight as leader and Sunset as her general, they set out to free Equestria from the tyranny of Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker. They also unintentionally get help from another universe because of Discord.

Personally I liked the pretty positive overview, cynicism often can attract the most attention to videos but seeing someone genuinely talk about things they enjoy makes me trust their criticisms of media much more in general, and it's nice to see someone just talk about something they clearly had fun watching. Hope your channel continues to grow, binged all your videos today and had a great time doing so

I wish EQD continued. I love this universe. Applejack/Rarity. Sunset Shimmer. The little nods to the show(Rollercoaster of Friendship had Megan from G1 for crying out loud). Sunset Shimmer. The new outfits. The fact that the writers aren't afraid to make the girls hold hands and talk about how much they're "best friends" with each other. Sunset Shimmer. So much more could've been explored. Including my love for Sunset Shimmer.

It really did only get better as it went on, imo. Sad that it ended, but I personally fear that it could've gotten worse. It capped off at a place that left everything open enough for fans to still want more, which I think is good in its own way.

@@nightshroud9671 they technically simply stuck with the dog Spike for the EG cartoon, but I always thought that was rude just rude to his character - and any other dragon character for that matter. Dragons are equally as intelligent and capable as ponies, why'd you make a dragon character a pet? Uh, I mean...the MAIN dragon character? Who's known to have a crush on another main pony character? Who's known to do some stuff for Twilight like writing letters and (because, I assume, it's easier for him that he has hands?) Geez.

For Spring Breakdown, I never noticed the similarities between AJ and the guy. I thought the other girls just thought he was a bit odd…like “Rarity is attracted to ‘this’ guy? Well, ok…”

Nice to see someone appreciate Sunset Shimmer, honestly I think the EG franchise would have had much much harder time without her. And I still can't get over that line about toast in backstage, 3 ageless magical siren horses eating toast just seems so bizarre Also Human Starlight is also way underappreciated. Also also this video was very good 0 things to criticize in my books this time around, and those 4k subs were well deserved, see you at 10k.

Well you'll be happy to know the question your girl's line is still going on just starting with the new ponies for gym 5 I think so the pay i you feel about those characters you might have fun

I'll be honest, I've only 2 real problems with Forgotten Friendship. The first is, when Sunset used her memory powers to see what Wallflower did, you see that, when Sci-Twi lost her good memories of Sunset, Spike didn't, meaning he was still fully aware of who Sunset really was. Apparently the writers had the memory stone used on them too, since they clearly forgot Spike didn't react confused with how the girls treated Sunset. Spike was treated like he'd forgotten too, but the scene of the memories being taken show that isn't the case, so they end up making Spike look like a jerk by making him stay quiet while the girls act like they don't like someone he knows is their friend. My second issue is Wallflower's reason for taking away everyone's good memories of Sunset. She was angry at Sunset for never remembering her despite Sunset saying how she'd changed. However, Wallflower herself confirms near the end she'd been erasing any public speaking she had with people, which would've included Sunset, sometimes intentionally, sometimes by accident. This means she was angry and wanted to punish Sunset for not remembering her... because she was the one making Sunset not remember her. Not to mention, the fact Wallflower didn't see anything wrong with erasing a full 4 YEARS of the rest of the Humane 7's memories simply to punish Sunset. As Sunset proved when she took the hit, taking away all memories relating to being in high school for 4 years left Sunset mentally 4 years younger, in a place she didn't recognise, in a body unfamiliar to her. The exact same thing would've happened to the others, with them suddenly only remembering their last day of their last year of elementary school and suddenly finding themselves 4 years older. It would've been even worse for Sci-Twi, since she wasn't even going to a Canterlot school until that year. Otherwise, I love Forgotten Friendship for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. Vignette is pure evil. She literally said she thought she erased the Rarity's friends (aka, as far as she's concerned MURDERED them) and waved it off like she'd thrown away some dirty clothes. In reality, she'd have been arrested for attempted murder. Her being forgiven is the only thing I truly dislike about Rollercoaster of Friendship. Something I LOVED about it (aside from the obvious RariJack shipping), was seeing Megan Williams in the background. My only problem with Sunset's Backstage Pass is how callous Sunset was towards Pinkie on the second redo. She easily could've explained herself to Pinkie as they were running and the way she acted like she didn't care how obviously hurt Pinkie was feeling after Sunset saw Poat Crush by herself felt incredibly out of character for her. She's honestly lucky the Time Loop happened again, because I'm not sure she would've been able to salvage the situation after that. As for Spring Breakdown, it's brilliant, if only because it gives fic writers an amazing way to write EQG stuff now, since, while the characters from EQH Don't know about the second, natural portal until the events of Spring Breakdown, the writer does and that can completely change everything.

I realized that too. Wallflower wanted to create her best public image, but inadvertently just made herself not be remembered. I don’t think she picked up on that, but it is entirely her fault and she went too far on Sunset. I actually kinda love how callous Sunset was on Pinkie. It was awesome to see that unsympathetic “bad girl don’t give a fuck” attitude come back from the first EQG movie, only instead of being antagonistic, she was being nonchalant and selfish. Would’ve loved to see how Sunset would dig herself out of that hole she dug herself if the time loop broke right then. Thanks for sharing.

The point with Spike defintely seems like it could've been a point, but it might've just been something they didn't animate as it doesn't seem like the memory stone needed accuracy and just does what the user means/feels as she erases all of Sunset's memories, even those outside of high school despite what she said(granted this might just be nitpicking, so I might just be wrong), which could explain how she kept erasing all traces of herself at the school, even to a picture of her at the high school, making the yearbook something important to her and maybe why she suggested including a photo of the garden she'd worked on.

@@autumbreeze1129 Opalescent might not have been affected as they don't have the same kind of consciousness as Spike does(which I admit is shaky as a reasoning, but don't really have more of an idea of what to make of that exception).

You are literally one of the only people who I've seen bring up Wiz Kid and Curly Wind's relationship, when I watched the first film I saw their first seen together and thought "oh this would be a cute ship", then after watching all the movies/specials/shorts I noticed it had actually become canon. It's become one of my favorite ships of the show! You can actually see the progression of the relationship even though they aren't the main focus of the episode, it was such cute added part of the show that really made me go back to find more and rewatch everything.

I love their relationship, it's such a cute little Easter egg to see them going from just meeting in the first movie, to being close friends in the next few movies, to being a couple in the specials. (Actually, there's a deleted scene in Friendship Games showing them holding each other by the waist, so depending on your interpretation they could've been dating by then.) In any case, I would've loved to see them get real speaking roles, since they were my favorite EG background characters

It's funny that pony sunset has a unique eye shape but human sunset has default equestria girls eyes, while pony starlight has default pony eyes but human starlight has a unique eye shape.

Hey man, I just recently found this channel - the algorithm blesses you, my friend; reap its bounty! - and I'm enjoying it. I was also noticing the similarities to DWK's "TLR" series (no one who hasn't seen it calls Twilight "Twiggly Wiggly," after all), so it was nice to get some acknowledgment while seeing you do your own take on the format. Anyway, obligatory 2 cents: "Forgotten Friendship" is my pick for best special (hell, it's my 2nd favorite EQG thing after Rainbow Rocks), but Backstage Pass is a solid choice too. I really wish they'd have made a solid conclusion to the EQG series, too. Hope to see more from you!

On a side note, i would like to touch a different topic with this comment. I love that the eg team actually "confirmed" not only the Rarijack thing but even that Sunset Shimmer is canonically bisexual, making a lot more sense regarding her interaction with human Twilight in Friendship Games. Also, as a bi girls myself i'm not gonna lie is kinda nice to see my childhood show represent me in such a way. Of course they couldn't be more explicit because... you know, Hasbro. But i also think this is the right way of doing rapresentation in a kid's show? Like, they didn't need to explicitly state that Sunset was bi or that Applejack and Rarity where into each other (or that Bon Bon and Lyra are a copule in the mlp original series) they kinda just like...showed it to us without making a big deal. Without saying anything, treating it like a normal thing. And honestly? It's amazing. I need more LGBT rapresentation like this.

They were humorous in the way that most of them mixed well with the themes, ideas or messages of the specials in some way. They were just funny overall because of how different the mashed up songs were. Eminem rapping the lyrics "Kiss my dick" with the instrumentals of Dance Magic was my favorite.

I never forgot Wallflower Blush. She's my favorite color and a kindred spirit. Back in my old small town, everyone knew my name but I was only ever the person to pity or the baseline friend. I never got invited to anything unless I was my dad's +1 or something going on at the local fire station my dad volunteered at. I was invisible in most of the necessary ways, forcing me to adapt to that exclusion. If I was invisible then why bother "being here". Solving life puzzles and playing video games.

I love the musical interludes between segments, just hilarious stuff. And man, they knew what they were doing with Sunset's Backstage Pass. Firstly, you're calling it that, and secondly, she's getting smacked in the ass throughout the whole thing. Made for kids? Yeah, okay. XD But back to serious talk, Equestria Girls was initially a marketing ploy just to make more toys, but once again, the writers took it upon themselves to make fun stories with the concept and I really appreciate the work done to tie it into the main universe where Friendship is Magic took place. Who knew that My Little Pony would have such complex lore as to have a multiverse? This is made for 5 year olds and we're dealing with the multiverse! Discord's ripping holes in the fabric of space, Starlight Glimmer's time traveling, Sunset Shimmer is having everyone walk through portals that basically make them clones of alternate universe versions of themselves, this is wild! It's part of why G4 was such a blast and got so many people that weren't part of the target demographic hooked. It wasn't just a kids show, it was a good show first and foremost that told fun stories and occasionally rewarded longtime viewers. I had a lot of fun with the Equestria Girls movies and specials, Ireally question why some people just couldn't get into them because the fan service and the crossovers between the worlds is so much fun and validates its existence alongside Friendship is Magic.

I know it's a small thing, but I like how instead of using one background and sprite-set for every video you change it up for in each one. It's a nice little detail that I appreciate. Also, like I've seen some others bring up in this comment section, it's nice to see someone have optimism about stuff they're reviewing. I feel like way too many reviewers/analysts give into cynicism - especially in this fandom - which is not how I think content like this should be done. Obviously you should criticise stuff and point out flaws, it just feels like there's way more hate than joy on the internet and if you are going to be mainly critical/hateful towards stuff at least do it with an undercurrent of good intentions and wanting to help; spreading hate for the sake of it helps no one. Sorry for the rant-like comment. Good video. Keep doing what you're doing👍

I can't wait for you to talk about the shorts. I'm just dying to hear your thoughts and opinions about the girls in the beach shorts, for obvious reasons. I'd especially like to hear your thoughts on Sunset in those beach shorts, again for obvious reasons.

A lot of the specials a lot of people just didnt watch and they dont get talked about enough, it's always "It peaked at Rainbow Rocks" which Ive never necessarily agree with because all these specials are dank as shit and to me it just felt like Equestria Girls never stopped getting better until it ended. It seems like we enjoy a lot of these same things in these which is a breath of fresh air compared to the discussions I usually find on them. I've always said EQG is as good as the main series and Ill die fighting on that one! I will say I feel like the white room shenanigans from Rollercoaster of Friendship was kind of stupid, but I do think they were trying to show that Equestrian Magic doesnt make sense or follow many patterns in the human world (which is sort of backed up in the shorts) It was a pretty damn funny twist, but overall Id agree they couldve done something better, the mirror breaking moment in Mirror Magic was just so raw that shit makes me cry everytime, guess they wanted that one to be less serious of a tone. The ranking at the end was pretty damn on point, I've always said while I enjoy EQG 1 its definitely the worst one so Im glad I dont feel like Im taking crazy pills anymore. Cant wait for new content, really awesome stuff your love for entertaining and the media shines through and gets me excited about it and your too damn funny. Really great editing too! Thanks

The interesting thing is with the human counterparts is that they could of really made a good show with a unique story line etc and maybe explore more of this human world and it's difference from equestria and what not

I found your channel couple days ago, binge watched all your videos and I can say I adore it so much, your humor hits perfectly. I wish they had kept making the movies for a few reasons, my real main reason being that everyone got their own movie/special to really shine in the spotlight... except Applejack and Fluttershy. Applejack had a role in the theme park special but that special felt like it was more for Rarity; and Fluttershy mainly played a supporting role with a few short moments here and there but nothing to really call her own. (unless I missed something)

For the past 3 summers I rewatch ALL of eqg and it makes me so happy to see analysis (I’ve even done my own 😭)

Oh my goodness I thought you WERE DWK on another channel! Thanks for clarifying at the end, I really was missing his MLP content but I'm glad he was honest about his feelings and continues to make other content (which I still enjoy!) Funnily enough I was just thinking about these specials yesterday and my three favorites have to be Forgotten Friendship, Mirror Magic, and Sunset's Backstage Pass (although, Rollercoaster of Friendship is quite the runner up!). I WILL DEFINITELY STICK AROUND!!!! Already looking forward to future content.

I'd say the highlight for Sunset's Backstage Pass for me was when we got to the Dazzlings (Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk) again. I'm glad they've doing well for themselves now and have partially turned over a new leaf and have become a well-established band even with their limited singing capabilities thanks to their crystals being shattered.

i'm so glade to find new eqg content analysis. i've been starved for content for years on this subject and all the big ponytubers have moved on or are lily peet. i hated that there was no real ending to this spin-off and what we could have had as one insted of some dumb xmas short. i was waaaay more into eqg then fim at the time bucuse while i did like elements of later seasons 7-9 (i LOVE the student six so fucking much it sucked we never got more from them) stuff like glimmer being......less the optimal addition to the cast i feel like my favorit charater all come from EQG with it being a tie for best girl between sunset, adagio and wallflower. sunset for being the best redemption arc and charater growth. adagio for being the best villain in fim over all. just top -dommy- villain. wallflower for being the most relatable antagonist. i feel like there was a chance she would come back if the spin-off had gone on longer -also her and sunset are the only ship i care about cuz it's the only other good one next to ponkset- honestly it's hard to say if i like RR or FF more.

Your comment about Wallflower Blush never appeared in prior movies are a little incorrect since you see her in the first Equestria Movie during Twilight's song of her getting used to the strange new world. Though you don't get to hear her speak and she doesn't appear to be alone. Granted, the scenes showed in this movie of where she shouldv'e been, she wasn't in any of those scenes. One thing I fully agree on, SUNSET SHIMMER THE BEST!

I do enjoy your videos. While you remind me of DWK, it still feels different enough that it doesn't seem like you're just ripping him off. I've personally always enjoyed EqG, despite its shortcomings. My favorite EqG special/movie is Forgotten Friendship, closely followed by Rainbow Rocks and then Sunset's Backstage Pass. Basically, anything with Sunset in it is awesome.

I've deconstructed DWK's schtick and blended it together with other shit, like a real artist. And yes, you're absolutely correct, things are just made better with Sunset. For example: Life.

I was actually so sad we never got a full EG show

My favorite part of these other specials and the shorts after Legend of Everfree is looking at all the SunnyFlash moments in the background, and how it makes some of this fandom flip out ^^ SUNSET AND FLASH FOREVER!

Ive always had an interest in the EG's Shadowbolts for some reason since Friendship Games and i kinda liked that they came back in Dance Magic, and i liked that near the end of episode they saw that they were so blinded by their desire to win that they didnt care if they had to played dirty to win. I honestly like this, as it gives them more depth and shows that when given the chance, they can be better than they were before. Though there are 2 things that I feel were kinda missed opportunities: 1) the Shadowbolts clothes. Like, I get that this was done to catch the audience up on the fact that theyre from Crystal Prep, but like, why are they wearing thier school uniforms on the weekend/after school/summer break? Do they not have any other outfits to wear BESIDES their school uniforms? I just find it funny that the creaters made them outfits for the music video but not for causal events? 2) the Shadowbolts pony-ing up doing the video. I dont get this because I feel like this is a little unfair for the SBs, because I feel like this could been a great opportunity to have them pony up and grow in the magic of friendship. I mean Sci-Twi did it, so why not them? This is also something thats another missed opportunity for me though it doesnt have to do with the episode, but rather the Pony-Up ability. I wish they gave Sunset, Twilight, and Rarity horns. Ive never liked their lack of horns and i feel like its a bit unfair. Why i say this is because, to me, at least, adding horns to the Twilight, Sunset, and Rarity would make them stand out more from AJ and Pinkie, because right now, they look like they are in the same category as Pinkie and AJ, while RD and Fluttershy are both in thier own category. I mean, they made the choice to give Fluttershy and Rainbow their pegasi wings and Twilight her alicorn wings, so why not give the unicorns thier horns?

The cuts remind me of DWK and I'm living for it! Keep the tradition alive!

That NANA reference, just made my suppressed memories about that show come flooding back.

8:57 My genuine reaction to the reuse of the white room in Roller Coaster of Friendship. Seriously, that thing was kinda a stupid plot device, but eh, whatever. That being said, I think I was a bit harsh on my previous comment regarding EQG. I believe that it was a mixed bag, but for me, it had that charm that FiM didn't quite click with me. All of the full length specials in Tales of Canterlot High are actually decent. My favorites are Roller Coaster of Friendship, Forgotten Friendship, and Sunset's Backstage Pass. The others are good, but they didn't quite click for me personally, but I digress. I really love Forgotten Friendship just to watch Sunset work with Trixie of all characters. That was really funny to watch. Tbh, I kinda like the one-off villains like Juniper and Wallflower. They're not exactly standouts compared to antagonists like the Dazzlings, but they're good, to a degree. While I would've done anything to have Equestria Girls continue, I think they cut it at a perfect time, but God I wish we got a decent finale. FiM got a heartwarming ending, but EQG got nothing. I know a 3rd season of the web series was planned, but Hasbro rejected it because they're corporate bitches.

Sunset and Starlight make an awesome duo in Mirror Magic and definitely have some good chemistry. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see them work together more. I’m definitely glad that Sunset was able to redeem human Trixie like Starlight redeemed pony Trixie though.
