The marketing for this show was horrible and misleading. This is not a parody but an actual sci fi that's hopeful, optimistic and fun. Glad Fox didn't "Firefly" it and gave it a 2nd season.

People keep telling me to watch this since I'm an ST fan but watching this reminds me of Galaxy Quest series except GQ looked great. And whenever I watch the trailer, it just puts me off. So maybe it's just a bad trailer like The 13th Warrior had an awful trailer

@@nenabunena im a big star trek fan and i was skeptical at first, but i have to hand it to them, they wrote it very well, the jokes are quite nice while still having the old star trek felling of exploring and human connections star trek for me was a bit of a let down but this filled the scifi comedy part, the expanse filled the need for a good damn show (the best scifi in the last years for sure ), origin is also interesting

The biggest clue to it not being a parody is the fact that Seth MacFarlane is such a huge Star Trek fan that he's actually been in a couple of episodes of Enterprise as a random engineer.

Discovery: "We're going to revive a franchise!" Orville: "We're going to show the world the future doesn't have to be a shitty dystopia."

20% on Rotten Tomatoes - are they fucked in the skull? This is an excellent show. A combination of Galaxy Quest + TNG. It has the good, decent Star Trek feel that Star Trek Discovery lacks. So yeah, a show that copies Star Trek is better than the CURRENT ACTUAL Star Trek on Netflix. WATCH IT!

When it comes to Sci-Fi the established critics are unable to provide an accurate critic. You need to be a sci-fi fan, and while i do not like a lot of Seth's politically correct stuff, he is in his heart a sci-fi fan and shows it in spades in this show. The established critics are more interested in fashion and trends rather than looking at the story. Look at Ghost in the Shell as an example, they were more obsessed with hate based PC culture than the actual movie - thus their rotten tomatoes score was very low, yet the audience score was very high. Compare that with The Last Jedi, which was pure Hollywood "Hate based PC Culture", high critic score very low audience score. My best quote is from Tim Surette (TV Guide) who claimed Orville would fail because it goes against everything that modern TV is - well he is right its against everything that modern TV is, and proves Modern TV is the actual failure. Looking forward to season 2 - go Seth you are my hero.

Its more like he secretly binged on episodes of "Felicity" and maybe even some "Ally Mcbeal" aside from the usual sci-fi he is famously a fan of. I'm gonna call ahead of time- an episode where his ex girlfriend will have a panic about her "biological clock" and try to convince Seth's character that they should gave a kid together. Expect the phrase "I'm not getting any younger!" If we are lucky maybe there will be a dancing baby. It just seems like unfunny reused over worked comedy bits with sci-fi thrown over.

Seth seems heavily influenced by Nielsen as I watched this. Then I thought if I didn't immediately connect him to Family Guy I would find his live action work to be insanely funny. Like with every joke I'm like they could do that(or they have) in FG but, with Nielsen movies similar situations are absurdly funny.

I watched season 1 when it first came out, 4 years ago, and loved it. I grew up watching TNG and you can tell Seth loves Star Trek. Sometimes the passion people have doesn’t always shine through, but when I saw that John Favreau was the director… it all made so much sense as to why it was so good

I'm a lifelong sci fi fan and a huge fan of Star Trek, and now that the first season is over I can safely say that I love this show. I love how much actual sci fi is in there and the humour just comes in every so often. It is laugh out loud funny but doesn't feel like it has comedy shoved down your throat at every turn. Here's hoping it lasts for many years.

Let's wait. Trailers can be deceiving. I'm not a fan of the overall look of Discovery but they could have some brilliant, clever ways to explain it given the apparent time period. There are some bits they HAD to change though, like the visual design. ToS was very much a product of its time, the effects budget etc only went so far so I can forgive the whole "this looks way more advanced than ToS" thing they have going on. Hell, what we have now is way more advanced when it comes to displays and instrument panels. The Klingons look fucking wrong though lol. Again, they may have some great way to explain that and if thats the case then I'm all for it. Trek has always been about great story telling more than anything else. I still think they should have set it after Voyager though. They could have easily used some of the stuff from Star Trek: Online as a basis for things, they've done a great job of carrying on the timeline after Voyager made it home. Plus it'd be interesting to see the Enterprise F appear on screen and become official canon rather than just "official".

+dvnobles I have a simple name that will explain everything to you: Mass Effect Andromeda. Stop defending stuff that isdommed to failure just because they wanted to add non-related stuff into a series that is complete, full and whole all by itself. Some may say the kelvin timeline movies are bad, but they even added something that was NEEDED in the Trek's universe:Action and that sense of fast adventure.Discovery didn't do it, it has internal problems, inconsistencies and too many "oh look we are sorry but we can explain this with..." you dont try to make sense out of non-sese when there is no reason to have any kind of sense to it.

My hat's off to all of the people involved with Orville. Ever since Galaxy Quest I've been waiting for someone in Hollywood to get a clue and realize that people loved it. Hell a girlfriend I had a few years ago started quoting Galaxy Quest and I nearly dropped on one knee and proposed. Thank god I didn't because she turned out to be super crazy. The point is thank you for making this show. I appreciate it and all of you involved.

I believe Enterprise ends up being MUCH better in seasons 3-4, but I haven't seen it either and also just started with it. From what I've seen, many people hate it because "Michael is a Mary Sue", "Discovery is an sjw show" or "Discovery is full of mysandry..." or whatever. Maybe they hate it because it's somewhat different to the other shows (pretty much like any new ST series until now), and just use those excuses...They sound very sexist. They have a point though, they certainly changed the appearance of the klingons, which aparently is because they are a different specie branch.

I already want to save up my sick time so I can binge watch this series all day.

I need a Peter Griffin fighting off a chicken in this one. . . .

This was a bit better than expected. I wish Alan Rickman was still around though. They were planning a Galaxy Quest sequel. Had to bring it up, it was the main thing I was thinking about, the original big Star Trek spoof. Anyways, I hope this movie does well.

In discovery some of the character's seem out of place. the uniforms seem too much, saurek isnt convincing, yet michael (dumass name) is getting better every episode, the new guy from the vulcan prison (new security cheif) seems interesting too, but The admiral doesnt suit, look at how conducted janeway was as a captain. In the latest episode the admiral has a lovers tiff and storms out, its as if Theyve forced the whole multi races mutli ethnicity and lgbtq or whateva the f it is. Things are too forced and follow the whole look at mee im gay/ethnic/etc etc. The orignal cast all seemed like family this one sort of doesnt. There are moments that are good!, but too much dribble, stupid camera angles or the continually obsesive klingon click clik. yes we know they are klingon its time to use the universal translator so we can all enjoy it without reading. Its still just a show a lot of people will watch just to kill time.

wow there is a lot of anger about this. How about we just wait and see if it's good or not before jumping on the " this sucks" bandwagon. Funny thing I've been watching startrek all my life and I have found that no incarnation is the correct version. As much as I loved the original I have to admit that many episodes were terrible. The same with Next Generation and most of Voyager. Don't hold it up as if it's always perfect. People need to lighten up and enjoy life a little. There now you can hate me.

Hear, hear. Personally it think most of them need to get out more. I have seen all of the Star Movies (not all are good) and most of all episodes of DS9 Voyager, Next Generation, the Original Star Trek, although again! Not All episodes were Good! And I liked Jonathan Archer Star Trek.. Cant understand why people didn't like the show I thought it was good in the main. But then I liked Babylon 5 Also, so maybe I'm just odd. By the way! when The Next Generation started I wanted it to fail. Because loved the Original so much even with all its faults. But I was won over in the end because I gave it a chance. Just give Discovery a chance and stop the pre hating on something not yet seen in its entirety. Peace!!....

Personally i think a lot of the star trek episodes were either garbage or okey to watch, only around 20-30 episodes in both voyager and next generation felt really good to watch. Babylon 5 is also for me a good show who had a great many good episodes even if there is some real shit episode there also, it is a bit hard to compare star trek and babylon 5 to be honest as it is much more personal and goes to more depth with ideas and conflict than star trek does at a whole. Babylon 5 felt more tight nit in its storytelling than any star trek show i seen.

Yeah I liked Voyager the least. I watched all the episodes but most of the time I felt like it was time wasted. I could've been making toast. Lots of toast.

If you like Babylon 5, you might enjoy Deep Space Nine. They are pretty similar, to the point where fans of each often accuse the other of stealing - this seems to be mostly coincidence, however. The biggest difference with DS9 is that the crew couldn't just resolve every problem they encountered within an episode, since the station wasn't going anywhere. It's not quite as tight a story as Bablyon 5, the story of which I believe was outlined completely from the start, but there is still a great deal more continuity between episodes and seasons than the other Star Treks. The Dominion War lasts two entire seasons, and the show itself ends with what can be considered a 10-part episode. Of course, if you know all this already, sorry. Just thought I'd point out something you might enjoy! Cheers.

thanks for the tip, i already know about the show and they did steal the the idea from the series creator. The man behind babylon 5 went first to the star trek producer with the idea, gave them the ground idea and outlined that he had in mind. They turned him down so he went to the other company who thought his ideas was good and babylon 5 was made. After babylon 5 was a hit they used the ideas he proposed to them, tweaked it a little and then made deep space nine. Some of the character are even the same basically in deep space nine. He thought on suing them which he would most likely win but thought again as he would know it would distract him from the babylon 5 show and it would costed a lot to win the case. Aswell it might have pissed off the star trek fan base so it would have hurted him.

I have to be honest, despite the parody nature of this film it looks beautiful, colourful and the graphics look amazing. I have a feeling that the creators of this film paid a lot of attention to this to make sure that true Star Trek fans would also enjoy this. I am really looking forward to seeing this.

Don't people realize it's a light hearted drama. Not a full out comedy

I laughed all the way through this trailer, can't wait till it airs.

Leave it to Seth MacFarlane to give us a mondern Spaceballs that scifi fans and teckfans want to see :)

Watch Enterprise Season 4 and it fully explains the Klingons appearance.

This show is awkwardly ALOT better than I was expecting.

I love it already, man I feel so much better after just finding out about Star Trek; Discovery.

The funniest part was the last line: "It's 9:15 in the morning". In space, there is no "morning".

I dont think anyone ever said it's because they're offended it parodies Star Trek. This is not different. This is Galaxy Quest. This is not original in the slightest. The writing appears to be horrendous. But that's to be expected from Macfarlane whos always relied on vulgariy and shock to seem funny.

Great show, the characters and special effects are awesome !!, Hope it lasts as many seasons as Family Guy, I know what I'll be watching every Sunday night for the next 10 years

It says something when a MacFarlane satire feels more like Star Trek than an actual upcoming Star Trek series.
