I'd have much rather they kept the Luna class for Picard. It's a nice design. The Titan-A is much less pleasing to my eye, like they took TOS ship parts and STO ship parts and awkwardly smooshed them together.
@jamesaron1967

Totally Agreed. At least they could have come up with a Luna-class refit modernizing it a bit, not this monstrosity. The Neo-Constitution class appears to be several steps back, something from another era. It doesn't integrate the various sections together well at all. The huge neck, strangely-shaped saucer and bizarre nacelles that look too large for a ship this size.
They should've had a modification to the bridge that, when Red Alert is sounded, raises a 1ft square section of the deck plating to form a small cube just under Riker's foot as he sits in the Captain's chair - for essential tactical leaning purposes. That way, he can lean on something even in the heat of combat while wearing his seat belt, because safety first. Presumably this would be accompanied by a similar modification to his ready-room chair, which would have a C-shaped backrest on a motorised track which allowed him to sit in a chair like a normal person but could swing underneath and pop up in front instead, for those times he had to have a candid conversation with a young Ensign.
I love the original Luna Class Titan. It's a shame she wasn't shown at the end Star Trek Nemesis. I would love to have a model of this one too along with the Neo-Constitution Titan-A. I thought the original Luna Titan was subsequently destroyed maybe in a battle with some enemy or an ambush by rogue Klingons or Romulans. As I said I love the original luna class just like the Neo Constition Titan-A. Commander Adams, I love the way how you do these videos for Trek Central. Your humor is awesome.
I was so goddamn disappointed that they didn't use a Luna class.

It wouldn't stand out as a hero ship as there are too many Luna class in service. Plus the show runner wanted a retro looking design. Bit like First Contact, they wanted the Enterprise E to be more distinguishable from the rest of the fleet
The original Titan looks much tougher than the Titan-A.
I would prefer the sovereign style of ship design, the thin neck between the saucer and the stardrive is like saying please shoot me I am a major weak point, I could see why John Eves removed that part and just had the saucer merge with the stardrive section, a smarter design if you will.
I wish the Titan A in Picard season 3 was the actual Luna-class Titan. I mean, why not? It looks amazing and would not have been that old, certainly a teenager compared to the Excelsiors we saw in TNG. Regular refits keep Starships up to date long after their heyday, and this ship would not have been that old!

The Titan A was actually said to have launched in 2396 as Shaw said he has been Captain of it through 5 years and 32 missions. I lean to think that Season 3 is in 2401, since it is the 250th Frontier Day, which would put it as exactly 250 years since the launch of NX-01 Enterprise.

yeah this video was written and recorded before we found out the logs in Instagram were wrong, the subtitles reflect this. And I would agree with you, Season 3 is 2401. However I think Shaw was captain of the Titan for 2 years between 2396 and 2398, the Titan was damaged in 2398, and the "refit" to the A took 3 years till 2401 - Dom
@langm1701

@@TrekCentral I think a more plausible explanation would be the Luna class Titan was destroyed in 2396, and the old Shangri-La Titan was pulled out of mothballs in 2396, and whatever remained of the computer core of the Luna Titan was put into the Shangri-La and the overall refit was built off of that. Would explain the Titan A resemblance to the Shangri-La Titan rather than the Luna one and would explain the jazz music deletions by Shaw. Also Starfleet has been known to do that sort of thing, with the Dominion War kitbashed ships being a prime example.

Kudos to the guy that designed this ship. It stayed true to the time line and what would a future tng ship of the the late 24th century would look like. Personally, I like the titan A but the design just doesn’t fit what a ship from the early 25th century would look like. I get it that they were going for that retro look. The Titan was one of the few new trek ship designs that I actually liked - of all the ships to “refit” I think the Titan was strange choice. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, after all. Oh well.
The Luna class is my favourite starfleet ship of the 24th century. The design just speaks to me somehow. I didn't know about the Shangri-la class untill after pic s3 and now THAT is my favourite from the 23rd century.
Just one thing: My favorite host.

Nice fill-in explanation for the Titan! 👍

Hey Thats Me!
Such a cool looking ship!!
Cheers Adam
I wonder if they'll have an updated Steamrunner class someday.
Many are missing the point that the Titan-A is, in fact, the Luna Class Titan. They are the same ship, just extremely heavily refit. This is evidenced by the Trek Log detailing the Titan's history stating that the refit changed design halfway through, and ended up being so extensive that the class name was changed and the 'A' designation was added. This is also indicated by Captain Shaw's remark that he had to scrub Riker's jazz files from the computer, signifying that it is Riker's Titan. Shaw has apparently been the captain of the Titan for 5 years, implying that he did take over the ship when it was a Luna class, then oversaw the refit into its current form.
How is the Titan A a refit of the Luna class Titan. Since when does a refit make a ship look completely different. We know what the Titan looked like, they even showed it on Lower Decks. When they did a refit on the constitution class it still looked similar, same with the excelsior class/enterprise refit, and the galaxy class during the Dominion war, the NX and the Colombia even in season 5 they would have just added a secondary hull. I like the neo constitution class but that is a different ship.

@jamesaron1967

@@RunnerX13 True, some systems were integrated and that's the justification but hardly fits, excuse the pun, the definition of a ship refit. This is a totally new class, again excuse the pun, called the Neo-Constitution. It bares no resemblance to the Luna-class Titan. Like you say it's a stretch and a misnomer to call it a refit or even a retrofit for that matter. Actually, by installing systems from an old ship to a brand new one it's more live a 'reverse-retrofit', which no one does unless it's something of historical value that has no other function. I'm really peeved by this more than most fans should be, LOL. I don't like the Neo-Constitution class at all irrespective of the name it carries. Bizarre looking vessel.
Picard has confused me about this ship. Captain Shaw complained about having to get rid of all of Riker's jazz music from the database but this is suppose to be a new ship? Is she Riker's Titan that has undergone a MASSIVE rebuild or are the writers idiots? FYI...you're my favorite presenter on this channel. I'll pass along your kind words to Adam! But yeah it seems like it is a MASSIVE rebuild. The internal systems from the USS Titan were kept for the USS Titan A, while the frame and hull are brand new? @@TrekCentral Yet it bares no resemblance to the old ship. In fact, it looks like a century _older_ not newer class. The creators wanted to use the name 'Titan' for its familiarity and Riker's role in the show but not the Luna-class design. Instead, they performed light modifications to the USS Shangri-la and called it a Titan-A. OK.
I wish we would've seen a refit of the luna class. While I like the new Connie. I feel like it should've been a new build. I don't see how the titans space frame becomes the titan A. It doesn't make much sense to me

I hate the neo-connie, it looks clunky and kitbashed. It certainly isn’t a good follow up to the Luna class design. I hope they blow the A up at the end.
Where is that scene from, of all those ship classes warping to earth (sovereign, intrepid, runabouts, etc)? That looked awesome!
This is just an off the cuff observation, but if the modern Titan is composed of the previous ships, does this hint at something of a rush for Starfleet to get ships out and operational? In a way, it seems to be kit bashing in and of itself, albeit in a much more fluid and organic manner. I wonder if this rush reflects the desperate need for ships, or if perhaps it is indicative of a new method of construction where "nothing goes to waste". Anyway, I'm sure that there are stated reasons out there that I have not seen. but I will say that, having grown up on Classic Trek and the original movies... I LOVE the new design.
Enterprise-E: My guess is that Living Construct incident at the end of Prodigy season 1. Especially considering that Worf wouldn't have been in command anymore by that point. (So whatever the mission was that saw Worf relinquish command, something had to have gone horribly wrong...) Riker's Titan: Probably got jumped by even MORE of those enemy ships that ambushed them last time, I doubt they'd have been around Earth for the Living Construct incident.
We should have got Star Trek: Titan series. Riker and Troi would be fun to watch. They’re hilarious.
Looks like a cross between vague Federation tech and Borg Tech.
One thing that bothered me in both this season and the previous season of Picard is that the writers do not seem to understand the difference between a refit and an entirely new ship. The Stargazer and Titan from Picard, as best as I can tell, are entirely new ships and not refits of the previous ships bearing the name. It is possible that the Titan may have been coming off of a recent refit but overall it is confusing, especially when we don't know if Riker ever commanded this newest Titan (as noted in the reference to purging Riker's jazz music from the computer.) It's not a big thing but a bit of clarity and consistency would be nice.
@jamesaron1967
Жыл бұрын
I'm not surprised the writers did this but you are totally right. It's a big thing to me because ships, both fiction and real, are a big thing for some people. The use of the world 'refit' is a misnomer whether it's fiction or not. Integrating old systems into a brand new vessel isn't a refit. It's not a retrofit either because the systems have to be _upgrades_ to an old ship. This is the total opposite of a retrofit. There's no phrase to describe what the Titan-A is, LOL.
I really like the Luna Class design. It is way better than the Akira. The Akira looks cumbersome and somewhat awkward, but the Luna Class looks so much smoother.
If Rikers Titan wasn't the first Titan, why does it have its own registry number and not the number of the first Titan with an A?
@Daginni1

I don't think there's any consistency with it, but ships that "earn" a letter after their registry have performed above and beyond standard Starfleet service. While those of un-note-able service get a new registry number with the next ship bearing their name. The original TOS USS Titan being forgotten to time, while the Luna class USS Titan under Captain Riker saved the Federation from the Pakleds, and earned its letter for the successor of such a ship.

Frontline ships tend to get beat up a lot. So it lasting that long is pretty good. The new titan is not a refit, I think the writers messed that one up. It's a new class with old parts...a reverse refit? I would have liked to have seen an actual refit over a new class. It would have made it more impactful for rikers story in star trek Picard. This really isn't the same ship even if it has a few parts from the original. The original enterprise lasted 40 years with each successor getting lost or blown up. I wouldnt be surprised if they're only now decommissioning the enterprise E or it was blown up and launching the F for star trek Picard.
"Titan destroyed by:" let's say too much combat with Pakled improvised weapons caused microfractures throughout the ship, hull to structural members. Too complicated to repair, ship was dismantled after it nearly shook itself to pieces, and parts salvaged for the A (like D was salvaged for E in _The Ship)._ Of course, the 'damaged too much for repair' line for the E & F's retirement, which I'm borrowing for Titan, looks suspicious if Starfleet is modernizing decades old ships rather than building new ones.
