Great video Kevin! Very informative! I just learnt something...I have an early DS M3 from 1955, and an M2. I never realised that the advance lever is shorter on the M3 until you mentioned it and I checked. Very interesting. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for watching! I learned a ton doing the research for this video! Couldn’t believe how customized Leica would make one of these for a working photographer.

@@kevinfickling6384 Yes. I do like the mix of the exposed frame counter and the M3 windows. If only all M3s were like that.

This was very interesting and fun to see a piece of history!! LOL, I would have been interested in just seeing you run a roll of film through it sitting there indoors at your studio!!! That would still be a nice set of negatives to have...making sure a few of them were mirror picture shots so you could prove you shot through one of the originals!! :)

Thank you so much! I have been looking for a review of the original MP for a really long time…so excited to watch this! Wondering whether you have taken any video showing the double stroke mechanism? Always curious how it would work on an M2 style advancing dial…

Thank you for watching! I did not put film in the camera or cycle it as I was afraid to damage something. Maybe some day I’ll be able to afford one and shoot it the way it should be!

Shorter film lever is a feature of some early M3s.

Both the older and newer Leicavits will not work on an M3 unless it was modified to do so (for the older one). The older Leicavit turns the extended film take up shaft that is a part of the M2 design and the newer Leicavits turn on a disk with teeth recesses that you will see on the M4-2 and later film M’s

Julian, Kevin is a frequent purchaser and user of all Leica products. He has purchased thousands of dollars worth of gear from the shop that loaned him the camera for review. We shop at the some store. He is also a professional photographer by trade. His images can often times be found hanging in the store that was kind enough to let him review the camera.
