Being Irish i have to admit that i grew up never exactly being a fan of the monarchy due to the past history of colonialism and Britain's very bloody role in Irish history going back centuries but after her state visit to Ireland in 2011 i have to admit that she endeared herself to the Irish people showing warmth and understanding when she touched upon the history and how both Nations had evolved to be more than just neighbours but close friends and like any other elderly lady i have the upmost respect for her as i would any elderly person.

For starters Britain sent planters from England/Scotland and took land from the peasant Irish farmers and leased it back to them to pay exorbitant rates to wealthy British landlords that barely meant that they could feed themselves and their families, introduced a thing called the window tax on their humble dwellings which is why all old dwellings you will note have a single tiny window. When the potato crops failed in 1845 which was the only staple the Irish had to feed themselves as all other crops wheat etc was used to pay the British taxes to the landlords Britain took all of the surplus crops and let the Irish starve to death resulting in an estimated 1 million deaths. We also had Cromwell in 1649 a man who is portrayed in English history as a hero but in Irish history was seen as a satanic killer whose forces are estimated to have killed over 200000 Irish people which was about 1/10th of the population at the time, Irish history is littered with Britain's bloody reign and could sit here for 6 months educating you on it but haven't got the time, anyway that is in the past and the past taught us that the only way forward is to build friendships for the future. @@JustSean413 Hi Sean from someone who could possibly be a long long long lost cousin from down here in the Big Easy aka New Orleans in about as south as you can get in the U.S. Your comment drew my attention as my maternal ancestors were some of the desperate souls who immigrated here in an attempt to escape starvation during the Great Potato Famine. Like so many they got put in the Union Army to fight the bloodiest US war in history just looking for a meal yet played a pivotal role in ending slavery and like so many my family stayed in the South. It wasn’t as if they were welcomed with open arms up North anyway with the no Irish Allowed signs in the windows. We played a significant role in the construction of canals here in New Orleans thus the name the Irish Channel. As you can tell I am very proud of my Irish heritage!! I hope to visit one day and find the area my family is from. I’ve heard it’s beautiful. And I would love to extend an invitation to all of you to come see New Orleans be for Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest or anything just don’t recommend coming in July or August 🥵🥵🌞🌞🌞

@@ginab3122 Hello Gina hopefully you do get to see the old country sometime in the future and yes the Irish have had a huge impact around the world and are spread around every continent due to the history, poverty and heartbreak which is why so many famous song writers, story tellers and poets came from an Irish background even 3 of the 4 Beatles came from and Irish background. Yes the scenery is beautiful especially in the West, North coast and the far south but its the welcome you will receive from the native Irish and the incredible and heart wrenching history that will make you wish to return. As a collective the history is fascinating as through the generations the Irish suffered some absolutely horrific events at the hands on imperialists/colonialists from its closest neighbours in the name of wealth and power but sometimes you hear the individual stories that break your heart one of which happened in 1916 during an event for Irish liberty and freedom known as the Easter rising. The story is about a young man called Joseph Plunkett a Catholic Republican rebel and his wife Grace Gifford Plunkett a Protestant artist, on learning of the capture boyfriend at the time Joseph whom they had planned to marry on the date of his capture and that he was to be executed by British forces at dawn the following morning Grace with the little money she had bought a ring got a priest and persuaded the authorities in Kilmainham Gaol Dublin to allow their marriage a few hours before his execution, the event lasted 15 minutes and was the last time she was to see him, she herself never married again as she said Joseph was her one and only love and she died in 1955, she also drew etchings in the wall of a cell in Kilmainham Gaol as she too was imprisoned on a number of occasions as she became involved with support for Sinn Fein which was banned at the time. There is a very famous song called Grace which has been covered by many artists including Rod Stewart who said he first heard it sung by 60000 fans at Celtic football club in Glasgow and that it broke his heart. Terrific interview Piers. I watched a short video earlier of Her Majesty's Jubilee in 2002. The Queen and Prince Philip waved at the crowds from the balcony, and were soon joined by the rest of the family. The crescendo of the crowd suddenly rose with youthful screams of delight when Prince William stepped out from behind the Queen alongside Prince Charles. Prince William, a handsome man now, was certainly beautiful in 2002. Brits...enjoy your 70th Jubilee! Waving to you from the Gulf Coast of Texas.

The South African tour, at the University of Johannesburg she was referring to the crowd as 'sisters' and 'brothers'' we were there. 95% of the attendance were black people. Afterwards I recall seeing her International CV on some social media, where she stipulated on there her race as Caucasian! Indeed, she did stipulate it as Caucasian, that was BEFORE the Oprah interview? After the Oprah interview, I realized, not only is the biggest hypocrite and a liar, and had a strong inclination, no one in that Castle said anything about that kids skin color, it was HER greatest fear!

The worst, the very worst hypocrisy displayed in the Oprah interview was Meghan battering on about her mixed race. First, she's not black or even half black, she's 25% black at most; Second, she's spent most of her adult life denying her mixed-race heritage; Third, why didn't she invite anyone from her mother's side of the family to her wedding to Harry (or her first, for that matter). In short, WHY is Meghan so hell-bent on blanking all of her family? It's not just cruel, it's silly: there are people on both sides of her family she should be proud of, not cast them aside.

By her graciousness, HMTQ acknowledges that there are Harry's and Megan's in every family. Despite great adversity, some people grow to different levels of maturity and altruism, while some remain in the playpen squabbling over infantile things. They are like mosquitoes, very annoying but there are ways to avoid them and not let them spoil the party. You cant expect mosquitoes to change and be nice. You have to protect yourself from them by keeping plenty of citronella and bug repellant close by.

my favorite memory of the queen: ww2. she was so brave! she didn't run away, like most other world leaders. when hitler sent over those v-1 rockets into london, she stayed, and actually was out there on the streets with her people. she was crawling underneath the trucks and working on the engines to keep the team going. i really admire her for that. and i do think she is very intelligent as well as serene, truly serene. she is patient, kind and giving. she's devoted her whole life to her people!!!!! excellent.

@@fastfred1234 my mum worked in munitions, making bombs. They had to go into underground shelters when the German bomber planes were flying over to bomb the Docks at Liverpool and Manchester. When they arrived for work they had to change into overalls with no metal. Remove bras etc that had metal, remove hairclips. Remove watches and earrings. In fact anything which could cause a spark, so no matches or cigarettes. If they smoked outside they could be sacked, and fined , because the low flying bombers had spotters and pinpricks of even small lights gave away a target. This munitions factory was a very dangerous one. Half of the town would have disappeared. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧👎

Personally I don’t fancy the aggressive characters like Piers but his utmost, never-yielding fight to protect the Royal Family and the Queen makes me admire him very much. When he lost the fight with MH he never complained for his own benefit but kept fighting to protect the reputation of the British Monarchy. Strong willed and admirable.

She has put a foot wrong she needs to remove Harry's titles. ❤ the 👑 Wish Charles could be bypassed and straight to William. Of course Harry and Meghan will try to steal the thunder. Harry has all this unresolved conflict from his childhood. ❤ you Piers.

It is unfortunate you closed your mind to Charles. When he was younger he formed the Prince's Trust that has helped a million young kids with education,lodging, health care, skills ,jobs etc.

I thougjt it was funny how she never really replied to his question. And No, Edward abdication of the Throne is notntje same as going all over the world spewing lies about your family and how horrible it is to be a prince and then whine about "being cut off" and still using the Tittles given to Harry upon their wedding day. The Duke of Windsor abdicated the throne for Love and I respect that. HRM gave him a proper burial as the Duke of Windsor but the rest of the family never forgave his faux pas.

I actually commend Edward for abdicating. The country did not need a man like him ruling the country. He didn't want to, it's a huge job and he knew he wasn't fit

Prince harry was vulnerable to this kind of pressure from Meghan after what happened to princess diana. The oprah interview was horrible for them. The royal family is doing its best to rise above this crap and succeeding. Hopefully harry comes to his senses.

How are we being perceived 'over there'? Who cares? There's a definite unseemly transatlantic up-sucking that's been going on - when does America ever ask/fret about what we think of them?🤷 Canadians, as members of the Commonwealth, have seldom been asked about their views or opinions in the run-up to the Jubilee (we hear from Australia on Sky News which is fine) but we are constantly taking America's pulse and I have to wonder why? Culture and traditions are very crucial.. we won't understand its value until its gone.. its what keeps us grounded and build values and structure... The monarchy and the British traditions have its own value..Change is inevitable but without certain tradition it can crumble everything... Certain things are necessary.

The Markles absolutely will pull some stunts. It's all about them. Yuck!

Duke of Windsor wanted his family after abdication; at his wedding, periodically asked to see his mother & was rejected by his brothers & especially the Queen Mother. He never trashed his family, he was a Gentleman!

Meghan could learn an important lesson from the Queen... She herself has experienced forgiveness for her awful behaviour which will hopelessly probably never change, and she herself can't forgive her father who has nearly died and lost his speech. And as for Lilibet, if Meghan isn't stopped, knowing her character, it wouldn't be surprising that she'd try to show off her daughter at this time to make the event super important. This baby wasn't named Lilibet for nothing, there's a future plan involved. Just as Meghan wants the world to see her as Diana, the same pattern is connected with the child, this girl is to be associated with the Queen.

Oddly, all the negataive crap the Markles have put out has created love and sympathy for the Queen.
