We are starting a new series dedicated to the topic of King and Pawn Endgames. In chess games you might be faced with situations, where only the kings and pawns are left on the board. For such scenarios, you need to now important principles so that you know how to play such endgames.
In this first video of the series, IM Andrey Ostrovskiy is sharing with you the principle of Opposition, which is the most important one of all endgame principles. Opposition is the situation when the kings are placed in front of each other with only one square in-between them. In such an endgame position, it is important for the side with the additional pawn, that the king is in front of it. If the king is not in front of the pawn, there is no way to win this position if the opponent plays correctly and therefore the game ends in a draw. The side with the pawn uses the Opposition to promote the pawn into a queen, whereas the side with the lone king tries to blockade the pawn.
Knowing this important principle will help you to find the right moves in king and pawn endgames and finally to win the game.

Very great tutorial. But if the key squares were marked it would be helpful for beginners from memorizing variations. I have seen those 3 squares marked in books.
