The open-source intelligence revolution: Meet the kids outsmarting the CIA | Manas Chawla | TEDxLSE
Governments are losing their monopoly on intelligence. In this gripping talk, London Politica CEO Manas Chawla explains how in an age of big data, cheap satellites and limitless social media, concerned citizens are mobilizing open-source tools to uncover all sorts of gaps in government intelligence. This “OSINT Revolution” has profound consequences: he details how this global movement is stripping naked the war in Ukraine, documenting police brutality in America, and exposing covert weapons programs in the Middle East.
Manas Chawla is the Founder and CEO of London Politica, the world’s largest Pro bono political risk advisory. Manas started London Politica with a vision to democratize the political risk space by provide political risk analysis and forecasting to NGOs, charities and social impact organizations that have traditionally been crowded out of the advisory space. He leads a team of over 200 analysts and associates based around the world and has advised over fifty clients, including The International Committee of the Red Cross, UK Police, UN World Food Program, Global Citizen, and the Confederation of Indian Industries. Manas frequently speaks on political risk and open-source intelligence methodologies at conferences and universities across Europe. He studies International Relations at the London School of Economics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. A similar thing happened during the Manhattan Project. A scifi magazine publisher noticed that a number of subscribers had changed their addresses to a remote location in New Mexico. He figured that his fans could only be up to one thing. He was right.

@@d7e7r7Many scientists and engineers were working in secret on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos during ww2. John W. Campbell, the editor of Astounding Science Fiction, noticed that a number of subscriptions had their addresses changed to a P.O. Box in New Mexico. He suspected that something significant was going on, especially given the number of prominent physicists and chemists among his readership.

Love osint. The skillset is the best thing I have ever learned.
I hope Google and Facebook, etc don't start censoring a bunch of arbitrary topics and locations after this presentation...

Proud of you ! 👏
Nice one
I really enjoy improving my OSINT skills, but how, could anyone give me some important sources to learn such a thing? Thanks
Yeah, dude, totally like how could any of this possibly turn dystopian? Isn't that like impossible or something?

True. That's why us ordinary people should understand how it works as well as possible so that we can have at least somewhat of a chance at maneuvering through situations

You can’t bring up osint without mentioning when /sg/ geolocated Syrian rebels or terrorist depending who you ask for air strikes by the Russian military.

Annnnnd, if it was on Tik0Tok, PR of China military intelligence knows ALL about it. That's the real news.
Ask them about Einstein the intrusion threat detection system. Not the person. lol Back slush from algorithms. Trigger/flag words to get placed on systems as bait.

Indeed. It's basically impossible to be private now. Even if you yourself don't have a big digital footprint you family members will expose you.

Don't be naive, my man! Bellingcat is not using OSINT ;-) Bellingcat is an arm of MI6 and CIA. You should have used OSINT before you made claim ;-)
Big disagreement with the name. Perhaps Open-Source-Hyper-InTelligence? A better acronym, if i do say so myself.
