    Have you ever had any problems with thunderbolts and bash guard sprockets? I've had the La Guardia and the Sunday Knox V2 and from the moment they go on the thunderbolt cranks they look bent as hell with mad tight spots. Both don't have the recessed bits that come with a lot of other sprockets and I think thats what causes it as normal sprockets work fine. I just wondered if you'd ever had this problem! :)

    Hey Brant you should make a video talking about titanium bike parts I feel there’s a lot of controversy over them, are they stronger? Do they bend easer? Are they more reliable? Or worth’s the price? Why wasn’t the ti sprocket lighter then the steal one? I feel there’s a lot of questions I and probably others have over titanium and everyone I ask has a different answer. But anyway great video!

  • @Brant_Moore

    @Brant_Moore

    4 жыл бұрын

    That would be a great video but I don’t think I’m qualified to make it. I’ve only ever ridden a Ti rear axle and this ti sprocket. So I don’t have the experience to say one way or another

  • @aleksiniemi5441

    @aleksiniemi5441

    Titanium is stronger material than cromo and lot stronger than aluminum but heavier than aluminum. Ti is mostly used only for the weight/strength ratio, but is not as reliable since it doesnt pend but it does snap. So instead of your frame/cranks/fork or any other part for that matter doesnt "warn" you by bending, it just snaps in two. As for the why Ti sprocket was heavier, I think that Sunday sprocket is actually aluminum not cromo

  • @Brant_Moore

    @Brant_Moore

    4 жыл бұрын

    Most sprockets are aluminum so it makes sense that a titanium sprocket would weigh a little more. The initial surprise of it being heavier I think comes from the given thought of how much lighter titanium parts usually are when compared to chromoly. We don’t usually compare them to aluminum

  • @Sentient6ix

    Jeeeeeeeze, dude. This is further turning me off of the Thunderbolt cranks. I find that the NDS crank tends to snap off at the mounting point. I went with the calibur cranks, and i feel way more confidence with the 48 spline 3 piece cranks. I really think Odyssey shouldn't be touting the thunderbolts as their strongest, simply because it's got that whacky 2 piece design. I think the caliburs are better simply from personal experience. I tip the scales at 270 pounds, for an idea of what kind of abuse i put my bikes through.

  • @badfourlife

    @badfourlife

    I've ran thunderbolts since release.... They strong, also odyssey strength test all their parts so they would know what's strongest.... Could never go back to a splined crank

  • @Brant_Moore

    @Brant_Moore

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sorry Adam but theres a reason that the Caliber cranks are cheaper and that Odyssey doesn’t offer a lifetime warranty on them. 2 piece offers less of a chance of failure. And Bad 4 Life is correct

  • @Sentient6ix

    @Sentient6ix

    @@Brant_Moore yeah, i was attracted to that warranty. They're a weird crank. Wouldn't be as much of an issue if I wasn't so damn massive. People tell me that i should switch to mtb, especially since i live in the pacific northwest. But bmx is not nearly as expensive, and I've been riding bmx for over 20 years now. Might be a little biased on what kind of bikes i like to ride. Edit: i digressed too much with the mtb part, i totally forgot to talk about my experience in further detail. I snapped two sets of thunderbolts in eighteen months at the same spot. I had to special order both from Odyssey, because my local bike shop refuses to sell thunderbolts. They told me that they tend to snap at that part where the NDS arm mounts to the spindle. I initially thought they were full of it, as I'd dealt with a bike shop in another city that were total morons. Turns out, those guys had replaced every set on every sunday soundwave special they ever sold, because of that same problem. I don't know what the other riders were doing to their bikes, though. Who knows, maybe they took em for a dip in the sea water, and that's what's causing the problem? But anyway, i caved in after my replacement set broke on me, and i got some calibur cranks. Unfortunately, that bike was stolen only a couple of months after the switch, so I haven't had a chance to give it a good comparison. I wanna run those caliburs again and see if they hold up to me any better.

  • @Sentient6ix

    @Sentient6ix

    Just to clarify, i don't think they're a BAD crankset, just not the crankset that would work with me, and the absolutely stoopid huck to flats that i like to do.
