In today's video, let's talk about some UNDERRATED brands of ultralight fishing gear on the market that you should definitely check; These three rod options are based on my personal opinion, and I ranked them based on their prices, quality, what they are made from / sensitivity, and their action ratings.
What is an ultralight spinning rod?
An ultralight spinning rod is a type of fishing rod specifically designed to be paired with an ultralight spinning reel. These rods are engineered to be extremely lightweight, often constructed from materials like graphite or carbon fiber to achieve this. Their lightweight design allows for greater sensitivity and finesse when casting and retrieving, making them ideal for targeting fishing situations where delicacy and precision are paramount. Ultralight spinning rods are favored by anglers who prioritize agility and responsiveness in their fishing gear.

Hey @mattrobertson9046 That is AWESOME... love hearing that. The rod is just phenomenal... Like you said, its just so good at catching all sorts of fish. I literally don't leave home without it. and if I'm targeting big fish, i usually bring it with me to catch bait. I'm with you... i love the feel, sensitivity and versatility of that rod... I'm glad your enjoying. Even happier you enjoyed the content and left a comment. makes my day!! Hope your having a great weekend!!

Glad I found your video. Finally someone that is not hung up on super fabulous, super cool and super expensive tackle. I use a lot of fiberglass rods as well as way more expensive ones. Maybe glass rods aren't as sensitive but I usually hold the line and or watch my rod tip. What I absolutely abhor are foam handles. My last Ugly Stick was a $1.00 garage sale pickup that I rebuilt with cork.. (Don't ever let your wife sell your tackle). I agree that 5' or a bit longer is ideal for ultra light. I did build a 10' crappie rod and it's nice for that.

The great thing about those guides is there are the easiest component on the rod to fix... haha those rods definitely do the trick for me though... thanks so much for watching and the great comment!

Hey @jasonlopez4855 Thanks so much for tuning in and for the comment... I really appreciate it!! I am also a fan of the ugly stick GX2, I'm glad you are too! To be honest an ultra light rod that is that durable for 20 bucks or so is pretty tough to beat... I use that rod all the time with my kids. They do really well with it. If you want that extra sensitivity, try that panfish series rod from St. Croix... fishes like a dream. love that rod too!!

Honestly I went back to carrying an ultra light setup with me. Sometimes targeting bass and larger fish in my area is tough. Nothing like hooking up some crappie and blue gill back to back. I shelled up money for a decent ultralight setup to enjoy. Will try that st croix pan fish rod one of these days!

That st croix panfish series rod is just incredible definitely work the extra money, and the sensitivity of the rod is just phenominal... let me know if you ever take the plunge and pick one up. you won't be disappointed I'm sure ;)

In 65 years i never paid more than $75 bucks for a Rod. Had the good fortune to come across Star Rods back in mid 90's in South Florida. Star Rods Aerial series ($82 dollars now) lasted me 3 decades. Six foot rod was perfect for Yak fishing. Caught everything from crappie to 25-30 pound shark while surf fishing Canaveral National Seashore. Star uses what they call E-Glass ---- regardless killer spinning rod. Oklahoma Striper Guide i came across a couple months ago uses BPS Fish Eagle. $80 Bucks currently ---- i'll be buying one for 2025 fishing season !

Hey Hunter!! Great comment / post... I don't disagree with you, I think you can do some good damage fishing with less expensive rods for sure! Ugly stik really does make some great rods under 50 bucks! I will say that I do enjoy rods in the $150 range for a variety of different fish, like blackfish, black drum, different wreck fish!! Pros and cons to everything... but, great shout for sure ;) thanks so much for watching and the comments!!

My biggest fear of 2 pound test is getting snagged on the bottom and losing the rig. My local lakes have so much structure on the bottom. I usually sacrifice a bit and go with 8 pound test.

If you are desparate so you start throwing trout magnets on 2# line it will take so much time for that 1/64th jig to hit the bottom it won't be and issue, however. If you don't have an ultralight with light line you may not be able to cast the tiny lures to the fish. I'd rather go ultralight than get skunked.

Hey @rickr9055... my apologies for not including the links... I will definitely work to update the rest of my videos. Thanks for tuning in and leaving your comment. I love hearing from you guys!! Yes, I do use the two piece. I'm normally not a fan of the two piece rods, but with the Celilo I haven't noticed a difference in 1 piece vs 2 piece, the graphite is still very sensitive. The link you are looking for is right here (sorry about that): amzn.to/3wKyjVh This will bring you to an amazon page with multiple length rods. For bank fishing I'd recommend the 5'6" or 6'6" (depending on the overhangs, and coverage your fishing under) for kids I'd recommend the 5' rod, its easier for them to handle. If you are interested in the other gear I cover in the videos these are some of the links to the reels and other rods I discuss in this video and other ultralight videos on the channel. Hey @timg185... I agree with you on the fiberglass ugly stiks, but the ultra light composite rods are actually really good in my opinion. Thanks for watching DAvesubers3415... The ulgy stick can be on sale for $20 bucks like it was when I made the video, but in the video I said you can get it for under 50 bucks... The rod is usually around the 50 dollar range... The celilo is normally around 40- 60 without a sale going on and the St Croix panfish series rod is usually about $120.00... No $200 dollar rod mentioned in the video... also I think this is a good spread of rods for value... 1 composite that doesn't break the bank, 1 graphite that is affordable to most, and 1 graphite that is an upgrade, but still doesn't break the bank. Hope this helps!! Thanks for watching!!
