In todays video I go over the recording template of alex tumay. Alex tumays recording template is probably the most used recording template in the history of rap. Alex tumays recording template is used by rappers like young thug. travis scott and gunna. This template has been used on thousands of records and is so simple.

don't get suckered into waves 3rd party plugins, just learn how to use all the stock plugins first, and Pro tool subscription based model is trash. Use a flat rate DAW. like logic or Ableton, Cubase Studio One, and if you got the brain power use reaper. buy some courses online instead of learning off KZread on how to mix. then once you get the daw down, the routing down, how to record and sing, and learn signal flow, then you can upgrade your studio with higher end interfaces and analog gear. Don't monkey see monkey do because that approach to music will rip your wallet to shreds. unless you got all that money ignore this comment.
alex is underrated, most engineers talk equipment, he made his mission to show people that if it soudns good it really doesnt matter what you use

Why does he use the puigchild 670, which is a stereo plug-in, on vocals? Vocals are in mono??
I transitioned from Logic and this vocal template feels like a whole manual. Great vid tho!
GREAT video bro
There are two flaws in the template you made: 1. You didn’t assign the input of the ‘All Vocals’ aux (no input). 2. You added a mono plugin (Puigchild 660) to a stereo aux, when you should have used 670.
@TopakliEnes
Жыл бұрын
The All Vocals need to have the Input Lead Vocals right ? So the tracked audio goes into Audio Track 1 ( only Autotune) then the signal goes in to Lead Vocal with all the EFX and Send and then to All Vocals and then to print ?

you can create groups for your vocals and instrument busses, and create send tracks (also called return tracks) for your delays, reverbs, etc. I was also confused when I switched over to Logic but creating groups worked so well for me. just make sure you keep an eye on using stereo plugins whenever you're working in the groups bc otherwise the tracks will be in mono

Can any1 explain, why does it need so many tracks? is it so there can be different effects and processors on everything or what? Cuz id guess one phrase of rap vocal should have the same effect as the next phrase, else it would sound wierd

@George T Music what's the advantage of recording the takes on the "tracking" track at the top of the template and then dragging the takes one by one to the correct track, compared to recording directly on the right track?
@wildsurvival4940
Жыл бұрын
This way you are recording completely dry vocals and add the effects when you drag it down.
@T1M_Dx
Жыл бұрын
It’s more of a workflow thing. He’s using that ‘tracking’ track as his ‘live’ track or ‘hot’ track. That’s the one that has the microphone connected to it. For speed and logistic reasons he’ll just use that track to record a take, if he gets a good take he’ll drag it down to one of the numbered tracks below - almost as if he is committing to it. When you’re in a long vocal session you might do 10/20/50 takes of the same line until you get it just right at which point you drag it down and move on. In a lot of modern music vocal lines also overlap, so the advantage of having several tracks to drag takes down on is that it let’s you visually build the vocal arrangement and ensure that no words are getting cut off at the start and end of phrases.

@distortion_plus

I'm not George T but my reason for dragging down is: your tracking track will almost definitely be louder than any of the other vocal tracks. It's at a level that is comfortable for the artist to hear what they're doing and has a comfortable reverb and compression etc for them to perform to. It will also be panned in the centre. If you're stacking up doubles/triples, BV stacks, etc a big stack of backing vocals will be at a lower level and some of them will be on the left and some on the right etc. If you record on the tracking track, the artist hears what they want to as they sing it, then you drag that good take down onto a track that is set to balance with the music more like the finished record and if it's part of a stack you're dragging it onto a track that is already panned and running through processing that suits that part. Otherwise if you record it onto the BV track, you need to record it, then turn it down and pan that track, maybe then re-route it to the processed bus that was not comfortable to sing through. It's much slower. You basically want a load of tracks that sit in the mix similar to how they will in the final song and then "fill them up" with recordings from the one track that you set to the artist's taste. It takes less time and the artist isn't waiting around. Hope that makes sense.
I know I must be doing something right cuz this is literally what my template looks like plus some other bells and whistles.

@officialdiomer

you can apply the same bussing template with any plugins
Templates are only good if you know how to mix, and they don’t work on every song so you’ll still need to tweak settings, most of you are looking for a “fix” all type thing which doesn’t exist..just being lazy!
@officialdiomer
Жыл бұрын
true. I think having templates is so good to just save a lot of time setting up sessions though. even if you cleared out all the plugins shown and added in completely different ones, you save time by having your routing set up properly. and if you're working with your own vocals or someone you always work with, having that foundation helps you move quicker because you're familiar with the sound you or they are looking for
@marcd3on605
3 ай бұрын
Thats why you tweak and save as template. of course, ever songs will need minor adjustment. but for tge most part, the vocal chain is repetitive. Travis template/track preset, young thug template/track preset. Etc It’ll make you faster and makes mixing a lot easier.
@TheRealJuLoso

No that’s not the point of why artists need recording templates lol it’s for us to just go & get things going as easy as possible w out the engineer having to do so much AFTER bc he knows what typa sounds you’re going for , or jus wants u to make as much music as possible ATLEAST recorded.
