The Blue Marble might be the most widely reproduced photo in history. It can be seen in numerous environmental campaigns, corporate logos, movies, video games-even Microsoft 98. It's also the only photograph showing the full face of the Earth taken by a person. No one's been far enough away to snap a picture like it. Now it's hard to imagine a single photo of the Earth having as much impact as The Blue Marble-especially since there is a small but vocal minority who doesn't even believe the photo is real. But today's satellites are showing us more than the Earth now-they are showing us, us.

uuuhm....the blue marble is not a photo. It was created by nasa employee, Robert Simms. He is given strip data. His job is to make it look like a ball, add the spectral highlight (hot spot) and make the clouds look as realistic as photoshop will allow. Do your homework! Nasa did an entire episode specifically on the ''creation'' of the blue marble.

While I do support the basic message of the video, I have to say -- this channel has changed so much from what it used to be. I used to watch a Good Stuff video and feel like I've learned something cool, or new. After this one, I felt like I learned something cool but also listened to someone rant against conspiracy theories. Which has been the subject of at least a few of the videos in the past year. I don't know what's going on with this channel, or who is working on it other than Matt. But I wish you guys would bring back "Good Stuff" rather than focus on the bad stuff that's out there.

We do know that even after the sun novas, some of us have always survived to dig up the knowledge. So, in the future there will probably continue to be survivors. Not that I care about 6 billion people dying on the Oct 17 2046 mini nova day but knowledge does matter and it should be preserved. To learn more on the galactic cycles and how they were proven look at the Diehold Foundation vids in sequence. Doug Vogt found ancient evidence that outlasted the mini nova as part of the proofs, and that important knowledge matters enough that we have to use it for self-preservation; we are supposed to figure out which side of earth to dig bunkers or underground cities in to survive.

The distributed nature of youtube servers makes view counts extremely unreliable especially at low numbers. For example youtube's London cache is showing only 4 views currently despite this comment being later than yours, takes time for the view counts from the various caches to be collated to the main count due to eventual consistency only way to avoid race conditions though.

5:46 "A single image of the earth isn't enough anymore" 5:55 "We need a complementary deluge of earth images, an endless stream of evidence and data to hold us responsible" I would like to contest that. That single image was so powerful *because* it was a single picture. Droning the same gloomy scenario over and over will numb people down, it will do the very opposite of what you suggest it should do; hold us responsible. A daily report on the murders happening won't turn down the number of murders, so the like a daily reminder we're destroying the environment will not make people more act responsible. You'd need the same as you would in 1972; a strong symbol that gets ingrained into people's minds. But at the same time, we're so painfully aware of the global scale at which things happen and may feel so helpless and hopeless to ever turn things for the better.

If by "The Whole Earth" you mean all the human people on Earth, then this picture misses 84% of the population, seeing that it only has Africa. If you mean the landmass of the Earth, then this picture misses roughly 80%, again since it basically only got Africa. Lastly, if you mean the surface of the Earth, then this picture is missing a whole half of the planet (slightly more than half actually (watch Vsauce)). Basically, by any definition of "The Whole Earth", this is not a picture of it ;)

@@lucidmoses I get it that the person took a picture of the entire "visible side" of earth but he was from public school and couldn't express himself very well and knew fully that he was seeing part of a globe. Scientists know it's a globe. Aliens too. Good thing you have the edge on that Lucid Moses name, buddy; have you seen the Diehold Foundation videos? Doug proves the original lucid Moses was the author of the Torah, and he had to create the Hebrew language and to code information into it with hash totals to get the message out. Seriously check out that Moses found technology and used it. And then there is the endoftheworld to deal with.

Prove it's fake. Get the trajectory for the apollo 17 mission, and the time it was snapped, and take a photo of the earth from the same position and time of a virtual solar system simulator. They didnt have computers good enough back then to render the earth as a decent sphere so it should be super easy with today's modern technology. Then make a website and post the information everywhere you can and get the entire scientific community to back your findings. Hell. Even I'll back you up. Remember. If it's scientific, it can be produced by everyone. If not, well I guess you can keep talking crap everywhere you go and disgracing humanity by spouting mindless gibberish after several nations have sent probes to the moon and verified the Apollo missions actually happened.

@@Coovargo first of all, kind of funny how the pic is taken in such an angle, that it shows NOTHING ELSE but africa. second, political correctness was a HUGE thing back than, and it was then when the foundation of modern day P.C. was created. and , i bet you have no idea why is it so important for certain people to actually replace white population with a predominantly dark skin one. and even if someone told you, you will refuse to believe it, as the truth is so horrible, that it may change your entire state of being. so people choose to be asleep.

That’s cute. Too bad it’s a lie. That photo of the Earth is fake and processed to give the illusion that the Earth is a sphere. I laugh at the distorted images of the continents as they appear to bend to form the shape of a ball.

Yeah, you got me. I was just kidding. Ok, I’ll go back to being brainwashed (like yourself) and believe that the Earth is a spinning ball of rock, gases, and water. After all, It’s so much easier to conform to the popular belief of a lie and never think for myself than to be ridiculed for declaring the truth. ..... Now, I’ll let figure out whether if I am still kidding or being sarcastic.
