Hooolyyy crap. It took you to simplify the topic to a point where even a complete beginner like me can start to understand that this all ain't as frightening and difficult as it first seems. I was in the dark and overcomplicating the topic, but I have seen the light. You, sir, have helped me! I just need go through those basic rules now myself more and start to get a grasp on them, and pretty soon I'll start spending time making actual music and not fumbling around.

if you want, you can download or buy this course: Udemy - Guitar Secrets Turn Your Brain Into a Chord Encyclopedia by Andrew Mcnaughton the exercises are for guitar but don't let it confuse you, the most valuable info there applies to any instrument, the guy will make you scream A-HA multiple times, this what made me finally understand the theory and play any instrument out there. My gf has musical ed. and i was correcting her when we were discussing chord progressions.

I took music theory this semester in high school and it wasn't very helpful. It was mostly aimed towards written music and not music composition. This video has far better information when it comes to music production/composition, love it and keep up the great work. 👑

The root note means the note that your scale is starting on. The root note repeats itself every octave so the scale starts on the root note in one octave and ends on the same root note on the next octave. It’s basically the identifier of the scale you are using

I went really fast in this video and it’s not really supposed to be understood completely after the first watch. For most, fully understanding all of the fundamentals of music theory won’t happen in 1 sitting. Take it piece by piece and keep going. If this video is not helpful in that, that’s okay. Just stick with it, and I promise it will make sense with more practice.
