How did this wonderful woman manage to look so fresh and beautiful in that heat and humidity? It had to happen of course but that doesn't detract from the sadness one feels. Beautiful and brave. Thank you Vera Lynn.

Kohima is 74 kilometres away from my city , Dimapur. It's such a moment of joy even today to hear that she have come to Kohima to sing for the soldiers in 1944. ❤

0:14 This is not a Women's Auxiliary Air Force cap, this is part of Vera Lynn's ENSA uniform, as is the bush jacket which bears 'E.N.S.A.' shoulder titles. Basic stuff the IWM should not be getting wrong. The Entertainments National Service Association was a uniformed organisation formed in 1939 and provided entertainment to British forces throughout the world during the course of WWII.

My father was in Burma for the duration of the war. He came home with a hate of anything Japanese, but absolute love of Vera Lynn and the Gurkhas. Vera proved that they weren't the forgotten army.

My Dad also. He was in Burma in the RASC and she signed the back of a photograph that he had with him in his billet of my mother holding his two children, that is my sister and me.

My Parents were in the RAAF and loved her. I would suggest those troops are actually Aussies from the way they are wearing their hats and the insignia on the hats.

A bit before my time but great story. Getting near the front had a measure of risk for anyone (see Glenn Miller). Showed a lot of dedication on her part & sure soldiers enjoyed shooting of their mortars & anti-tank off for a beautiful woman instead of at the enemy for a change.
