Brilliant as always. You have no idea what enjoyment your postings have brought into my old rather lonely life. I come from a seafaring family. Was on the sea from the age of 2. Had my own little rowboat from 3. Been on the roughest and smoothest crossing in the world. What memories this series brings back.

Our origins were from a very rich family in Denmark, but our ancestor was the black sheep of the family and ran away with very little money to sea, to live that life for a while, before settling in England, a world away from the kind of life he'd known before. So many stories from that era..

Amazing script and storyline - nothing comes close these days to represent a fantastic history of seafaring, business, shipping and cunning in all aspects; great writers

It's three dimensional as opposed to the two dimensions of modern dramas and films...

It is hilarious how gigantic the ship interiors are compared to the outsides. But I love the series none the less.

    Humdinger of an episode.

I wish we could have seen the fight between William and Samuel but we only saw a cut nose and a black eye. We saw a fight between James Onedin and (the first) Daniel Fogarty in an early episode, so it can't have been due to censorship. Baines did some 'less is more' acting in this episode - a very touching scene with the widow Catherine.

3 actors on the edition, apart from the regular crew. Alan browning, Elsie tanners husband, that bearded fella who got promoted, I think he was in Corrie and that repulsive southerner who was in the bill.

I’m surprised or perhaps not , how much food on the plates for the last years are on the captains cabin compared to how much is eaten both in American and English dishes. Are we all being killed by gluteney?
