What a tantrum on finding out he has fathered a child.

I love the fake Victorian photo portraits of the actors in the opening credits. In those early days of photography people didn't smile at the camera but they looked serious or even severe. Whoever prepared those black and white portraits did an authentic, amusing job. The writer did a great job too; two pregnancies, an explosive temper and an explosive cargo plus two betrayals by William - selling the Fraser's yard and abandoning his pregnant girlfriend. What will James do about that?

I believe that if William wasn't his sister Elizabeth's son, he would have strangled him long ago. That's what I, at least, would have done

Thanks Lance-James dicing with dangerous explosive but not letting salvage money go-not mentioning trifling domestic matters!

I was going to count all the silly, selfish women in this series, but quickly realized there was no need. It's just ALL of them. Every single one wants to get her own way, and God forbid if they don't.

Strange, James gets married & dips his wick, then get angry when she is pregnant

In those days one would never address waiters as gentlemen. Quite a mistake on the writers part. He would simple turn to them and say, leave us. Also one never uses the words, thank you, or please, when addressing staff. Only the upper classes, those of sophistication were called, gentlemen. The rest of us are men, certainly not gentle.

Charlotte gives William a ring. Shouldn't it be the other way around?! No wonder William rejected her. She took the role from him!!!

James should sack that old bat of a housekeeper. Plebs should not talk back.

Strangely enough, Peter Gilmour never had any children of his own. Was he gay?

He married three times: to actress Una Stubbs (1958-1969), with whom he adopted a child; to Jan Waters (1970-1976); and to actress, and former Onedin Line colleague, Anne Stallybrass (1987-2013), who survived him.
