The children of that time are in danger. If you were a poor child, you would work hard jobs instead of going to school, and if you were a rich child, you would be entrusted with a nanny. Either way, you would not get what we call "parental time".

This predates Mind Your Language however your are right in thinking this series is full of them.

Not very credible - James Onedin would have demanded cash or gold in advance before taking on a risk like that. This episode was a bit like the French Revolution one in that it was too clever, too exotic for its own good.
