The ONE regret everyone has at the end of their lives
Ойын-сауық
I had heard this many times before. The one thing that becomes precious at the end of life .... is time.
And to waste it for something so meaningless, its hard to put into words, but then this masterpiece of movie magic so eloquently delivered those lines.
"What me worry?" Alfred E Neuman

One might argue that at the end of one’s life, there isn’t anything left to worry about. One looks back over a road already travelled. From that perspective, I’m sure many worries seem futile, because the outcome worried about is now known. One didn’t know that at the time, of course. Which is the point. Everyone gets a first class degree from the university of hindsight.

Worry/stress is the number 1 killer
Worry means you suffer twice. First you suffer worrying, then what you were worried about. If nothing happens you worried needlessly, and keep suffering until something does. Those that do not worry suffer only once at most, and then for only a moment, living joyfully until the next time✌️💚🖖
Good of you to underline this. Surely it's one of the best lines in the movie history and also from the philosophical point of view.

An excellent movie, and excellent actors.
I keep telling my wife (a born worrier) that worrying is thinking about something you can’t do anything about, because if you could do something about it you would and then you wouldn’t be worried anymore. I’m 62 and when I think back through some of the things I have worried about in the past I realise I’m still here so those things couldn’t have been that bad. Perhaps that’s why generally the older people get the less they seem to worry about stuff.

I often hear people say that they would only regret the things that they didn’t get to do. If only it was that simple. Many of the things we would like to get to do cost money, the kind of money most simply do not have. I would like to visit many places around the world, but i can’t afford it. I would like a big house, and a nice new car, but i can’t afford it. The list goes on. It is acceptable to regret not doing things you wanted, if finance and time allowed you to. But i could never regret not doing something i could not afford, or had too little time to.

I don't think not buying a nice car or a big house are the regrets people have near the end of life. More travel is a likelier regret, I think. Most regrets about "things I wish I had done" are: asking that girl/guy out back in high school, told (person) what I really thought of them, spent more time with (person), etc. None of those really cost much money. No one wishes they had played more video games, watched more TV or been on their phone more. Not even younger people with terminal illnesses.😢
The older Hanks gets the better his films.
I am reasonably confident that worry did my mom in. I said to a family member that she probably worried herself to an early grave. 😢
When I had to take family leave from my job I talked to quite a few people about it, especially more senior employees. The number one thing everyone said was if they could go back in time they would spend more time with their family. One person even took it a little farther and asked me if I knew what the one thing people never say was. That was I wish I spent more time at work. FLY NAVY!!!
Great movie! Great story!

.....a pure Stoic
If you live your life, as people did in the past to a much greater extent, with a perception of how comfortable you would like to be on your deathbed you can keep those regrets to a minimum.
You can worry too much, and you can worry too little.
worry is the by product of thought
Always remember= today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Quote on felt wall tapestry at grandparents house every time you came down the stairs it was there staring you in the face. 😊😊
I got sent to therapy when I was 14 because I didn't worry about anything. I didn't concern myself about anything. Nothing bothers me...Later in life they found my amygdala is .5 times smaller than average. It's also why I don't have fear of anything. I have never understood why people get embarrassed or worry or have fear of things. Logical actions precede logical outcomes. If they become illogical, walk. I had a girlfriend in college that would get upset with me about not getting angry about anything. I explained to her then that I hold no hope for anything because that is a human emotion that makes us weak. If you build the sandcastle and it falls, it fell. Go eat an apple or ride a bike.
Excellent, under appreciated movie, “Bridge of Spies”. I remember Frances Gary Powers getting shot down over Russia and the eventual swap with a Russian spy. It was a big deal and the attorney took a lot of crap for defending the spy. But it was a necessary part of the process
Personally, I don't really care about what ever comes up because I have to deal with it so just do what you gotta do.

It's amazingly simple, but I find it very hard not to do.
Unless you believe in the afterlife, regrets never leave this place we call Earth. So why travel with them during our lives. Acknowledge them and learn from them but don't travel with them. There are enough people out there willing to spend time with regrets. So regrets are never lonely.

Focus on the present moment. Most of our worries are about perceived problems that will happen in the future or that have happened in the past. The past cannot be changed so worrying about it won't help. The future doesn't exist yet so why worry about something that doesn't exist? If there's something you can do right now to solve a problem, then do it. No need to worry. If there's nothing you can do to solve a problem, then accept what will occur. No point in worrying.
The main regret I hear people say at the end is. I wish I had traveled more. I wish I hadn't worried so much. They apologize alot. They wish they would've given more.
He should have worry before he did all that.
Would it help?

But it isn't. Worries are thoughts and you are not your thoughts. I'm not a therapist or self-help guru but many suggest journalling as a strategy to help. Write "Today I had a thought that said..." and journal it. We HAVE thoughts that we can carry around with us. But we can also put them down like the baggage that they are.
