    This movie never got the credit it deserved. I’m not sure why but I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Jodie Foster as well as all the actors did a magnificent job!

    Brilliant actor John Hurt. He became the character at whatever he played. Champagne casting on Contact. Sci-fi at its finest.

    What a essential scene to the movie. S R Hadden, an industrialist like Rockerfeller or Carnegie in his senior years wanting to give back something significate to the people on the planet. He financed many people who came to his foundation for funding and probably many of them failed him. But Dr Arroway was on the road to success and he had her back against the powerful in Washington DC. I bet he was immensely proud of her. A great comfort in his dying days.

    I really like this guy in this movie. He's a visionary. I love how he thinks finding the primer and thinks like a alien intelligence. 😊

    Nope, much different model DB Cooper jumped out of a fully Americanized passenger jet. The one in the movie was a former Russian passenger jet; two sets of two engines mounted directly beside each other. This plane has a fully exposed APU, which looks a lot like a fifth engine. The model shown is a Russian IL62

    Villain? Unsavory business practices perhaps (what with the "from whom I have taken" line), but I would not call him a villain. He facilitates the protagonist and does her no harm throughout the movie.

    ​@@tomburton8239 You have it backwards. Her funding problem brought her to his attention. Only then did he do his research into her background, so he'd know whether she'd be a good investment. He didn't track her from birth... the baby photos are just research results.

    I just noticed he has a quint-jet. The only plane it vaguely resembles is an Il-62, but those never had an upper engine like this does.

    I make no clams at being a genius....but the moment I saw three squares didn't line up right, I immediately understood the 3D perspective of it. I only had about 2 seconds to mentally process it before the reveal..but I definitely saw what he was about to reveal coming before he showed her.

    @@evm6177 Well, no..but I watch a lot of movies and TV shows, and I get a little kick out of seeing something coming before its revealed. Like, watching Columbo and catching the thing that will give away the murderer when it happens, and not when Columbo explains it. Its just a good feeling.
