In one brief moment - you see a miracle - a single phone line & modem using voice, fax and data simultaneously. Just like every hotel room in America in 1998, NOT.

One of my favorite characters of any movie honestly. So intriguing and unique. Hmm and the Cigarette Man from X-Files they have a presence to themselves. For those of you that enjoyed this scene you may also like emergency boardroom meeting scene in Margin Call

jodie foster was a terrible actress...... I guess she's behind the camera nice only proving my point. This was such a dumb pointless movie. A cheap rush ripoff of other movies like Stargate that came out first even with better stories & of course some other film company had to make their claim. Sort of like tv series Seal Team vs Seal team 6 or Armageddon (1998) vs Deep Impact (1998) all the same stories & most come out within months of the first all telling the same story with a rushed script bad cast & usually lower box office because everyone sees through it. Still you always can make money if it happens to get enough people....Olympus has fallen (2013) vs White house down (2013).

She is copying Captain Picard with that tea. I'm talking about the real picard, not the blundering senile who gets smacked around by "strong women of color"....back when Star Trek wasn't just a vehicle that blue haired, woke narcissists could use to virtue signal.

It always pissed me off when the male characters in this movie stood back & let Dr. Arroway do all of the heavy lifting (intellectually speaking), and every time her efforts began to bear fruit, "Yes well, I think that the government should militarize this project. Dr. Drumlin, you can get to work on a preliminary budget?"--as if Eleanor Arroway just ceased to exist (at least until the data confused them again, then they need her)

1:33 there was no such airplane with five engines. The Lockheed Jetstar had four engines and had very high fuel burn, two jets on each side of the tail, and of course, yes, we have had three engine aircraft with a centrally mounted engine on the vertical stabilizer, but there was no five engine anything. This was made as a mock up for the movie. Just imagine the fuel consumption!

While it seems plausible given our political climate, I disliked how Zemeckis amped up the "crazy evangelical terrorist Luddite" factor and the "miracle" conclusion at the ending taking her trip on "faith". In the novel a varied group of scientists traveled in the Machine and all had a similar experience, meeting alien renditions of their loved ones. Religion had little to do with the novel's conclusion or some vast government conspiracy to hide the "absence of evidence" in her recorded footage.

The original production of Contact was being directed by George Miller. That version would have stayed closer to the novel where the Palmer Joss character would have been Ellie’s friend, likely played by Kevin Spacey, and not a romantic interest as in the finished movie. At that time Warner Bros. was pushing hard to turn McConaughey into a star, and so the Joss character was tailored to fit what the Studio wanted. I worked on the Miller version for six months on designs for the message from Vega, none of which were used in the film. While I think Zemeckis’s version is a fine entertainment, I believe Miller might have made a classic on par with 2001: A Space Odyssey had he stayed with the project.

hahaha, movies from the old days when the Yankee propaganda of Hollyweird showed Yankeeland as the only country capable of everything in this world when the truth is that they have not been capable of anything, only screwing up the life and existence of others, if extraterrestrial beings will look for a country to establish contact first they would do so with China and Russia and perhaps also later with Chad, Sri Lanka or Burkina Faso BEFORE WITH YANKEELAND because the aliens, amazed and disgusted by the filth and depravity in all spheres of life in Yankeeland call it society, companies, banks and politics WOULD NEVER AGREE TO CONTACT YANKEELAND for fear of having to deal with drug addicts and degenerates like those who march on pride days or with visitors to Epstein Island, all them with military ranks or civil distinctions hahaha So you know, if there was contact on this FLAT EARTH, those aliens would surely CONTACT WITH CHINA OR RUSSIA, and maybe with Rwanda or Madagascar later, but NEVER WITH YANKEELAND ahhahaha Finally, Hollyweird is now just making movies so that the degenerates of California vote again for the degenerates of the White House, at the cost of losing billions of dollars, get woke, go broke hahahahha

Still one of my favorite Sci Fi movies of all times. Carl Sagan's only fictional work. Definitely worth a read. If you think the movie was good, it was great in mine, the book is amazing.
