    I just rewatched your awesome video. It occurred to me that Lanfear is described in the books as being as strong in the One Power as it is possible for a female channeller to be. So I would be reluctant to place any other female forsaken as her equal, not even Semirage, as this would make her only one of the strongest female channellers but not the strongest as described by Jordan. I would place Semirage 1 or 2 levels below Lanfear, but not definitely not equal. Semirage inpires fear not by being the strongest channeller in the world, but by being the most ruthless, the most cruel and the most inventive in her cruelty. I'd rather be captured by Lanfear than Semirage. Lanfear may rip the skin from my body but she'd still kill me right away. Semirage would keep me alive while she ripped the skin off my body, and do it so slowly it would probably grow back by the time she finished 😖 I wouldn't place any other male channeller on the same level as Rand either. Others may think they are as strong, or Rand may under estimate himself in the book sometimes, but I think we can safely assume that Rand and Lanfear are the pinnacle of their respective power charts. I think that Lanfear may be wrong about herself, and other stronger female channellers may exist that she is unaware of, or simply haven't been born during her lifetime but I don't think this includes the other forsaken. Still a Fantastic video (so much better than that bizarre guy on the Dusty Wheel 🤣) and still entertaining a year later.

    I would have commented that Talents are often things they can do instinctively, and sometimes are impossible to replicate for other channelers without the specific Talent. Also forgot to mention the ability to create ter'angreal, which either allow certain weaves to be performed, or have other effects that seem impossible to otherwise replicate with the one power.

    (Off topic) (SPOILER ALERT) Had to post this somewhere.I'm rereading the series for the 3rd time at age 66. Just got to KoD Chapter 20. This, for me is the most emotional chapter in the bookj, when Nynaeve brings Land to the Borderlands, leaves him at the End of the World and locates the Malkiri merchant, Weilan Aldragoran. She she reveals herself to him and tells him of Lan's plan. Aldragoran says softly into the silence, (The Golden Crane flies ro Tarmon Gai'don. This brings tears to my eyes even now as I write this.Anyone agree? What is the most moving sequence for you?

    Totally. This was a very powerful scene and spoke volumes of Nynaeve's love for Lan and her respect for Malkieri Customs, and ties in very nicely with what we see Lan in A New Spring. It's a shame Lan is so old and Nynaeve so young when they wed as she will grieve him for a very long time. Lucky she's tough 😉

    Good video, it makes the most sense of all the power rankings I've seen. I think the discrepancies between the compendium and the book is the difference between potential and actual strength. Nynaeve, Elayne, Egwene and Aviendha haven't even come close to reaching their full potential, this is why Cadsuane although below them in the books in terms of what their full potential would be once reached, is actaully far more powerful in the compendium. So if cadusane is a 12 at her full potential, then we can assume Elayne, Egwene and Aviendha would be at least an 11, while Nynaeve, would probably be an 8 or 7. Talaan would probably join her there, and Sharina Melloy too. It's hard to place Sharina, Sharina is untrained, but is quite old too, how does this affect potential? Does your potential change with age? Do you get closer to your potential power level with age even though you haven't trained.. would Sharina jump to a 6 or 5 with full training or just an 8 or 7? Narishma would probably jump up to forsaken levels too.. he is probably one of the more powerful 100 Companions reborn. However I do not know if the compendium decided to add Cadsuane's angreal as part of her power levels.

  • @rustyshackleford1062

    @rustyshackleford1062

    I always saw it as he can actively manipulate the pattern. So rather than use the "force that drives the wheel" to create a fire to light his pipe he just wove it into the pattern itself that his pipe was already lit. It's more than implied that that's what he and the dark one are both doing with their alternate realities and such while they fight against each other, or at least that they are weaving an alternative pattern so that's where I justify it. Who really knows though, I feel like there were a lot of plot points in the series that probably died with Jordan, or at least, the underlying reasoning behind them did.

    No. Logain was given his ability to channel back by Nyneave and since it was someone of the opposite gender he came back to his full power. If a male channeler had healed Siuan and Leane they would've had their full power restored as well. Rand is as strong as someone can be with the One Power. No one else could be stronger than him.

    A quibble. Men and Women can both learn the mechanics of channeling both of the powers, but (discounting the anomaly of Halima) they only have access to their corresponding power. So, while explaining the mechanics of a specific effect using Saidar would be useless to someone who channels Saidin, it is not quite right to say that a woman cannot teach a man how to channel; A woman who knows how to create an effect using Saidin can teach a man if linked to him and leading. This fact, however, was not known to the characters who originally said these things in universe. The Anomaly of Androl and Pevara would have been nice here as well, as they can both channel both of the powers individually while linked.

    Good video but there are some corrections I'd like to point out: There are not 79 levels. There are 72 levels in total with the levels 1 to 66 for both men and women and 6 more for men at the top. This is also the maximum number of channelers in a mixed circle. One Power is not infinite, it is finite but infinitely re-usable. Sparkers are rarer than the learners, the majority of the channelers are learners. It seems like in the video that learners are rarer.

    never forget guys... strength is not aptitude in the power... it is spoken of numerous times of wise ones who are "weak" in the power but have special aptitudes which give them advantages. such as when egwene is training with them. they arent very strong but have some serious know how in the use of telaranrhiod(check spell) and other things. like being a tiny chick but having proficient skills with knives allowing for greater potential in combat against stronger, bigger foes.

    I have a question. You list 52 as the minimum necessary to be AS, and Alise (a Kinswoman) at level 46. However, in one of the books I just finished rereading (either 7 or 8), there was something mentioned that Alise was not strong enough to have been kept in the Tower - that she would have been put out - and has no potential to be AS. Is this something that got overlooked, or did I misread?

    That’s a great catch. It’s an error on the slide. Alise is ranked at level 46 on the scale of 72 before male channelers are added to the list. She actually is a 53 on the updated scale and I missed changing it!

    Nae'Blis I actually think you added more levels than really exist. My understanding was that there were a total of 72 levels (66 for women plus 6 “++” male levels). The confusion comes because the Companion tries to note some women based on multiple scales used by RJ but by the time he settled on the 66 female levels he also seems to have settled on men having 6 levels above the highest possible female strength. I also mapped all of this out in spreadsheet format when the Companion was released (posted it on Wotmania back in the day) along with some rationale around how some of the book quotes can actually explain the various power fluctuations. For example, The Wonder Girls all have varying strengths as the series progresses. Egwene being the strongest in actual strength because she was Forced, but the Companion seems to jump between talking of “potential” strength and “current” and is inconsistent in noting the difference in all listings (i.e. Aviendha is “currently” not the equal of Egwene, but book canon is clear that she has the same “potential” even though the Companion doesn’t mention it). Happy to share more if you like!

    Hi, is there a difference between being stilled and burning yourself out regarding the "wound" that is left behind? I mean, Nynaeve could heal stilling but could she heal burning yourself out, too? I am unsure if by burning yourself out you lose the ability to feel the One Power like in a Stedding (I think when you are stilled you always feel what you will never have again). I hope someone can help me out here :)
