For what it's worth, I am 41 years LEO/ retired, now armed citizen. I carried a G22 with a S&W 38spc backup. I've owned about every other handgun except Wilson Combat (can't afford it) . For some odd reason I always go back to GLOCKS, they just work for me without all the bells and whistles available today. I was carrying a G23/3 with a G27/3 backup until I bought another G23/3. Out and about I carry twin SOB with a double G22 15 rnd mag carrier. If I plan on driving a lot I simply switch to double appendix. I can't say I'm the guy who never drew his weapon, I can say I did and survived. I see all the tricked out handguns you young people carry, kinda reminds me of Star Wars with all the stuff on them. Back in the day we called them unlimited class race guns, amazing. Mine are 100% factory except for the night sights. Simply put I have confidence in them, and with me operating them for decades. I've been hearing about SHTF , I pray it NEVER HAPPENS put as clearly as I can get all the range time you can, it's no fun at all when those steel targets start shooting back.

One of the most informative podcast I have ever heard. I hope many people should take in consideration all that was spoken on. At the end of the day familiarity is the most important point with the side arm one carries. The sidearm that one carries every day should be the one he or she is most proficient with and that takes time and a conscious effort to do this. Again, really liked this podcast.

Sold them all off and consolidated on a couple BCM rifles, a B&T sub gun, benelli m4 shotgun, a few Glock 19s with dots, a 26 and 43 for summer carry (Florida gets a little hot for a g19), gen3 pvs14, and a 30-30 heirloom Marlin for deer. I enjoy these more than I’d enjoy 20 psa carbines. But to each their own.

Your last segment of the video is spot on. Everything I have on my H&K VP9L (for home defense) is there for a reason. Before I added the red dot and light/strobe I became proficient with shooting the firearm accurately and getting down my fine Motor skills and hand eye coordination with how the gun operates. Once I added the red dot, I took it to the range to improve my skill with the sight, then I added the light/strobe and did the same thing with that so now I have the confidence to use this handgun for self defense if I ever needed to. Just got my CCW permit and I purchased the new Canik Mete MC9 and I can’t wait to take it to the range to learn and start developing my skill with this firearm. not sure if I’ll upgrade anything on it yet or add any attachments. If anything I might add a light but first I need to practice with how it functions/recoil control etc etc. Only upgrade for what you need for your situation.

This was a very good video and the things you mention I had already been pondering. As a lady, I've found it sometimes difficult to Conceal my Glock 19 and 26 so I have often carried a Ruger LCP or S&W Bodyguard. Have recently been thinking of selling all .380s to simplify ammo and going strictly with 9mm Glocks. You make the Glock 19 look small! Have pondered a 43X for carry. Anyway, some really good points in your video. If I ever had to pull my gun, I don't want to be thinking "which gun do I have, is safety off, etc". For me, I think streamlining is the way to go. Thanks again...I need to get more range time in!

My vp9 is my favorite. My m&p shield is my everyday carry though. I also use a thin pocket holster as it’s grippy enough to stuff between the shorts/pants and to draw it stays where I place it, either appendix or rear hip. Shield has safety so one in the chamber is ok with the holster. Biggest thing is using Mantisx. Practice your weapons dry firing if you do not go shoot live rounds. Recoil is your only con for laser training. Can’t complain about not getting practice in. If you can afford any gun, you can afford laser training.

I know this seems obvious, but if you can fit a G17 or full frame, carry that. Not because of ballistics or velocity or whatever, it's just a matter of it fitting you better. I carried a 19 for years because that was what everybody said was the thing. My pinky didn't fit, it fucked up my grip and presentation, etc. I tried a 17 and realized that it really is a 19 for bigger guys. I'm a fairly strong built 6'2" 250lbs, and i didn't take that into account for a long time. I can carry the 17 with zero extra downside, and a ton of actual shooting upsides. Basically, try different stuff, and see what works for you. If you're smaller, try smaller, if you're bigger, try bigger. It has helped every aspect of my shooting.

I subscribed. I guess the best thing that can be said about these conversations, is that information has power. This is great information. And a great perspective. But the reason I mentioned information is because every person is different as an individual, and how they approach set ups and training are different (or should be) based on that person’s individual ability. I personally have a Sig P365 XL, a Ruger LCP II (daily backup), and a Glock 30 SF in my rotation. It depends on where I’m going and what I’m wearing. But what I do is train with everyone of my side arms the same. Therefore , I trust what I’m carrying, and I know how effective I am with them. Great video. I look forward to seeing more.

That's happened with me the first time with the Colt 1911 Government in a 45. Then again after a lot of 9 mm's I found it again in a Sig 226 legion as well as a Glock 48 and a CZ compact which are all very different but with any of those 4 I'm comfortable. It does have printing issues with light summer clothes. But I go with my G27 if better concealment is essential. Larger capacity mags fit the 27, so that Consistency works great. Good video. No matter your choice, the vid’s theme is on target.

I sometimes wish I was a one pistol platform kind of guy, but I love pistols. I have several different pistols that I own and shoot. But I shoot several times a month, and the ones I use for defense are the ones I shoot the most. I edc a p30sk and also have a p30l, both set up the same way. I usually bring 2 or pistols with me to the range but always try to bring at least one of those to shoot for the day so I stay consistent on that platform. I also plan on buying more p30s so all my staged guns in the home are the same. For the person that doesn’t shoot all that much, that’s where it would make sense to own and carry one platform.

In that same scenario if my draw is noisy and i make an error in the heat of the moment ive alerted the perp with my draw and mistakes can happen.

I can’t adjust between the different grip angles of 320s, 19s, etc., especially with a red dot. I love a gun that presents naturally, but if I start changing models, then I find myself having to be VERY intentional in presentation. So I tend to stick to one gun for everything (carry and HD)…though I do prefer it to be smaller and thinner most “compacts”.

Stopping the video at 2:20 to comment about those who initially intend to own only what they need for their imagined scenario. You are correct, when you say after a certain point it's just collecting guns. I started with one gun and through the years bought and sold many. I told myself that I'd only be a utilitarian gun owner, so I bought and built guns based around a purpose. Now, I'm at the point where I have to stop myself -- and it's very difficult -- from even looking at other guns online or at the local shop because I have what I need. The primary reason is, with any new gun new magazines and other accessories seem to be a necessity. That diverts my attention and money from buying ammunition and upgrades for the guns I already possess. I wonder if those who own two safes and two walls full of guns actually have more than three magazines for each gun.

I have both pistols, plus an unmodified Springfield 1911. I have no issue carrying and using any one of them. I use the Vickers Tactical 8-shot mags without holes or slots, and Ed Brown's stainless 8-shot mags and have no complaints. I hope that the Sig M18 remains functionally perfect as earlier examples had issues, while my well-worn G19 Gen 3 works fine, as it had the heavy compression spring in the frame for greater reliability. That's about it.

@@TATargets I openly wonder if the M18 is that much better than the G19. Due to the heavier than standard spring operating in stretch instead of compression, this darn pistol will probably live forever, and with lower bite axis for slightly less muzzle flip. Add having it as a potential turn-in for a hopefully righteous shooting at very little expense, it's possibly the still best way to carry a sidearm. And I don't particularly like Glocks.

I absolutely agree with your base premise: be intentional with your pistol choice and setup. What I would like to point out is that it’s not practical to have 1 pistol for all of life and dress codes. I shoot my Glock 19 best and love it but I don’t conceal it well in my suits and business casual attire. I have a micro compact for those occasions in which my attire needs to be more formal (which is pretty frequent for my line of work). What this means is I need to train that second setup to get my proficiency at that same standard as my Glock. Good food for thought in this video! I will now go get the same red dot on both and same light for consistency sake

I would recommend people drop the money to go to a top notch pistol course taught by people who have "been there, done that". This will allow you to get the basics of using a pistol in a stressful situation. They will teach you how to draw the pistol and how to efficiently reload the pistol. You dont need to always go to the range to practice with your pistol, there are numerous dry fire systems you can use in your house or yard. Shooting while moving is much different than standing on an indoor range punching holes in paper, weapon articulation is very important as well. Foot work, how you stand and so on. For me, this video says more about people needing to train with what they have rather than what gun to buy. Go watch a competition match near you, you can pick up the tips from good shooters for free. Great video.
