One of the most important directions for people training BJJ comes at the end of this video: "The responsibility is on the guy on top". Many BJJ instructors fail to advise their students to keep in mind the safety of their training partners! Congrats!

in jiu jitsu thats really important
10:49 "aah, thats aweful"
Your advice on security is very important. JJ videos should always talk about it first!

Yep, I can easily imagine someone trying to bridge you off them when your'e applying the barato from top with obviously horrible consequences. Wouldn't recommend that one unless the person on bottom knows what your'e doing/what's going to happen.
god this guy seems like a nice guy

And an excellent instructor
10:48 Baratoplata from mount, can hear your partner appreciate the lock. Both you do an excellent job in your videos, both the teaching, and your partner flowing with you. Yours are the best BJJ videos I've found so far and you seem like a down to earth guy, which seems to be a rarity in BJJ, at least based on my experience (too much ego usually) May you have many good years to come sir.
"That's awful" at 10:50 best part of the video

If I do a kind of combination of the Omoplata and the Baratoplata... Is that a BarackObamaplata?

I love how humble you're!!!
Great, as always! Thanks Stephan and Ritchie.
Stephan, you and Ritchie rock! Many thanks.
you're the best Stephan. thanks for all you do!
Great work. Love your videos Stephan.
Always great to watch your instructional videos Stephan. Cheers - Calvin King (Tasmania Australia)
Nice! I always enjoy Stephan's videos!
What a fantastic explanation Stephan!
Wow. You managed to pack the essentials of a lot of different techniques into that one video, and the demonstrations were really clear. Thanks!
Great video man. Very informative. And thank you for shouting out who came up with the move and dropping knowledge on aspect.
Another great video Stephan! Thanks heaps.
Excellent breakdown and summery for anyone jumping around youtube trying to put this picture together. Thanks for uploading!
Thank you Stephan, for taking the time to do these videos. I’m a yellow belt with Brazilian Luta Livre and I practice and use many techniques from you. Thank you!
oh snap! Richie got his black belt! Congrats!
Stephen Sir you're one extraordinary teacher in bjj, very crystal. ..thank you.
Great instruction. Stephan is really good.
This is a brilliant video, sir. I love the Plata series and will use this a lot in the future
That's brilliant! Specifically the Barratoplata from mount. That will help me solve one of my biggest problems from that position. Thank you again Stephan and Richey.
When I was learning how to do the arm bar I just realised all this time I have been doing the marceloplata. Amazing!
Thank you! Super awesome breakdown on the instructional!
you explain things so well, thank you
awesome, my favourite move is triangle choke and now I have another backup plan to try the baratoplata when I lose the grip of the hand, thanks Stephan!
Excellent video. Definitely subscribing. Thanks for the content!
Lots of new techniques out there, thank you for being relevant and incisive.
Professor, you lectures are excellent. Thanks so much from Maryland. Osss
Awesome explanation and demonstration as usual - thanks!
I am soooo looking forward to working these in class tonight!! So cool and looks simple.
Great instruction as always, will be trying to work the baratoplata into class tonight!
Stephan, thank you. I enjoy your crisp, clear delivery, and the emphasis on safety, as others mention. Do you have a video on your at-home training methodology? I.e., if several white belts/blue belts get together? Any basic methodology or rules for a garage gym?
Neat vid, nice to hear the safety tips mentioned.
This was great, showing the different forms.
Another great breakdown, thanks Stephan. Just wanted to add, I have a lot of success with mounted gogoplata from the position where you attack mounted Marceloplata. I like the kimura option (which you mentioned) and gogoplata since you remain on top the whole time.
very good videoooo stephan.. loving ittttt
super cool variations thanks
great videos! Excellent instruction!
Dear Stephan, your videos are my favorite bjj-grappling teaching videos.Smooth and vey good analysis.Thanx and hello from Greece-Athens...

Που σαι πατρίδα, εξασκείσαι ακόμα?
Learned barratoplata from a gracie barra instructor. Learned it from an armbar finish. Great move!
Slick stuff, Thank you for sharing.
Kesting is a great teacher. I've been checking out grappling for about a year and a half. I've learned a lot about locking joints. I can't train it unless I move to Seattle. There are no local teachers.

Consider checking for Japanese JJ or Combat SAMBO classes - they are experts in joint locks but mostly in standing positions. It's too much focus on ground in BJJ if one thinks about self defence IMHO
Muy buena explicación Stephan. Pobre Richie! te banca todas.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing
Keep pressing 0 for fun. BTW I love your videos!
Thank you for this video. It has tremendously improved my omoplata game transitioning to different variations. The only one I struggle to get is the baratoplata from bottom. I find it difficult to maintain control of the arm while positioning and applying torque.
A second camera, split-screen set up would be super useful.... This video is very clear & useful. Thank you.
Great video. I enjoy everything from 4 min mark on
great instructional video never knew about the baratoplata before i saw this
That reverse kimura grip from mount looks money. Never thought about it. Gunna try it. Thanks.
The Gracie Barra instructor who showed it to us was named Rafael "Barata" de Freitas. He has so many setups for this thing you wouldn't believe it.
Richie is finally a black belt!! Awesome! now you two have to post a video with a good rolling session! :)
Very nice video and very nice teacher! Thanks!
Great video.
Omg thank you this was big help! Every time I'm on Mount I always forget what to do.😁👍
un gran bell lavoro!!
baratoplata, my favourite. Have been using it for 2 months only and got it many times
Awesome, thank you !
Awesome video! I HAD to sub!
Amazing man, love it
EXELENTE VIDEO Y MUY BIEN EXPLICADO SIGUE ASI BROTHER SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO
thanks stephan
Great stuff as usual thnx!
great, explanation, thanks a lot.
This is fantastic...wow
great video thanks !!!
Wow!!! this was perfect! thanks
This guy is awesome.
This it really amazing !!!
Thanks you for your great lesson~
A small point Stephan - In the Baratoplata you don't actually force the opponent's wrist behind his back. You pretty much immobilize it, force it to stay in place - as you bring his elbow up\forward, creating a shoulder lock. This distinction is important to understand in order to apply the correct hip vector. Great vids, thank you.
I remember Marcelo taught this on his first DVD series way before it was named the Baratoplata
Thanks! Very helpfull!
thanks bro!! this awesome!
bom vídeo,boa variação de técnicas
thanks a lot !!!
Very Good positions!I I'm doing the baratoplata a lot!
wow i never knew anything besides the omoplata. thanks!
Dam thank you very much, never learned the baratoplata from mount like so.
love it!
Love that Barratoplata, thanks for sharing!
wow. that baratoplata really blew my mind.
Awesome vid
Love the Marceloplata, letting us finish omoplatas :P
Muito bom.
great!
great video... thank you very much
Great!
My favorite plata... The platapus
9:06 can you put your legs in a triangle and make a bicep slicer by bringing your hips up? Or even from the top position. Just looks like a cool variation that might work but idk honestly
great! i like your vids
makes me want to go back to bjj
For the baratoplata do you almost have some sort of bicep slicer or crush from that position
From my back I push away on opponents face with my hand then I get leg control of arm and sit out I always attempt to control the hips of opponent occasionally I cannot control hips and opponent rolls out does anyone have any constructive criticism or advice so I can better control the hips and body to prevent the opponent from simply rolling out??
