The Oldest Potters Clay in the Southwest is Disappearing
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I go looking for the oldest potters clay in the American Southwest near Tucson, Arizona only to find that this clay is rapidly disappearing beneath concrete. Explore the remote prehistory of ceramics and the long ancient ceramic traditions of the Tucson area.
To learn more about how to locate and process wild clay check out my online class "Wild Clay 101" at this link ancientpottery.how/courses/na...

Lots of great history in Tucson, my family moved there in the 19 teens. It has sure changed a lot and not for the better IMO.
I'm blessed to have clay I can harvest on private land, with permission, on the edge of the wilderness area in Vermont. I've seen a lot of the places I roamed in Vermont turned into second houses and condos. I bought a corn grinder last month and now know why 🤣

Thanks. I take every opportunity to get out of the house and explore.
What a great channel you have! Friendly suggestion - maybe drop the music, it is distracting and competes with your presentation

Yes,what you said is right, these areas will disappear. I recommend you to write a book on ancient pottery and I would be the first to buy it.

Have you seen my book "Mud Puzzles" ancientpottery.how/product/book-mud-puzzles/ it is not a pottery making manual but describes what was going on in ancient Arizona and how I came to make replicas.
Great 👍

How long can a corn grinder stand up to abrasive clay and sand? Are the grinding wheels replaceable? Michael

The grinding disks are replaceable, just held in place by screws. They will last for years, check out this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/aXt_261pk9ngkrw.html
I never knew pottery in the Americas started in Central Mexico.

Pottery in the Americas started with the Valdivia culture of coastal Ecuador, at least a full thousand years before ceramics were made in the valley of Mexico.
I live in Tucson. I was going to purchase some commercial clay for a project. Not anymore. I’m thinking that the river down towards Green Valley might be fruitful. 🤷 Edit: I’m also remembering seeing clay out old Old Nogales Hwy…
