The Old Red Hills Of Home - Parade in Rehearsal

Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan and Tony winner Laura Benanti will star as Leo Frank and Lucille Frank in Manhattan Concert Productions' February 16 presentation of Jason Robert Brown and Alfred Uhry's musical Parade at Avery Fisher Hall. Though the show has only a short preparation period, Brown and the cast - which also includes Ramin Karimloo, Katie Rose Clarke, John Ellison Conlee, Joshua Henry, and many more - welcomed the press into a recent rehearsal. The company previewed the songs "The Old Red Hills of Home" and "This Is Not Over Yet," which sound incredible even without the concert's full orchestra and choir.

I was only 1-2 years old when this show first premiered! And, even worse, I have not yet developed my ultimate interest in musical theatre till years AFTER it's London production moved to L.A.!

I saw the first national tour. MAGNIFICENT. The show deserved a better run and should have won Best Musical, espeically over the mediocre Fosse. Fosse deserved better.

@@richardmayora1289 I hated Fosse and Contact winning because none of them are Musicals. Especially Fosse, which is just a compilation of his musicals.

Believe it or not, this isn’t his first time in this role! He actually first played Old Solider/Judge Roan in the Mark Taper Forum production of Parade with T.R. Knight as Leo and Lara Pulver as Lucille! Heck, he even played Hugh Dorsey in the second mounting of 3-D Theatrical’s production of Parade, which had Rufus Bonds Jr. reprising the role of Jim Conley which he originated on Broadway in 1998!

Why does he need a prop for rehearsals?

  • @AvalonMorley

Zak Keil Why would he not use it? For these kinds of events, rehearsal time is generally quite limited. Even if expense were of no concern (and when is that ever the case?), union rules limit how much rehearsal time performers can put in; beyond certain parameters, the whole endeavor is classified differently, and the rules for performers' pay and conditions change. In this rehearsal, they're working not just on music/vocals, but on the physical staging and movement, minimal as it is. So it would certainly make sense for him to incorporate an element like a crutch, if it's being used in the performance. He won't have a whole lot more rehearsal time to fully integrate it into his performance.

That is David Gaines! He's best known for his portrayal of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, but he's also the original "Man" in the National Theatre tryout of Whistle Down The Wind, AND he can also be seen as Anthony in the 2000-2001 Philharmonic Concerts of Sweeney Todd, with George Hearn, Patti Lupone, and Neil Patrick Harris! This concert is actually the second time he's played this role of "The Old Soilder/Judge Roan" since the 2009 Mark Taper Forum production of Parade(with Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight as Leo Frank, and BBC Shrelock's Lara Pulver(Irene Adler) as Lucile! kzread.info/dash/bejne/lq2KqrByqsibZag.html ), but he's ALSO played Hugh Dorsey in the second run of 3-D Theatricals's production of Parade(which also had Rufas Bonds Jr. reprising his Broadway originated role of Jim Conley) as well! 3dtheatricals.org/past-shows/2017-2018-season/parade-2/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davis_Gaines Bonus fact: he's also the singing voice for Chamberlain in The Swan Princess!
