Roger actually lost to Robredo during the US 2013, whereas this match is from Cincinnati 2014. 2014 was also the year that Sir Andy broke Tommy's heart during the Valencia final, saving 5 match points in the process.

Great video. Fascinating looking at Novak in 2014 in the context of 2024. I've been watching tennis since 1974 and the last 20 year era of the big 3 or 4 has been the greatest tennis both in standards and compelling rivalries. The US hardcourt season leading into the 2014 US Open was very interesting. None of the big 4 played the US open final that year. In this match Novak's standard was very high and it highlights how players with great ability such as Tommy Robredo who with a mentality of "nothing to lose" can play a level of tennis that the big 4 were consistently able to produce. Losses like this happened to all of the big 4. Also interesting to note was this was early in the Becker period of Novak's career. He learned from these types of losses which led to his incredible 2015 season and then in 2016 he went on to hold all 4 GS trophies, the only man to do so across 3 different surfaces. The other interesting aspect was Novak's style compared to now. Both he and Rafa could bounce over the court with the speed and athleticism that you forget they had. Both Novak and Rafa developed their court smarts and tactical skills to compensate for their decline in reflexes and lightning speed. And lastly as always Novak who drew criticism for demonstrably showing his emotions of frustration at not achieving the standard he demanded of himself was always clear in his congratulations for his opponent when they met at the net at the end of the match.

Half of slams, not majority. 10 masters (33% is not a majority). 2 ATP Finals (28% is not a majority). Also from 2018 to 2020 he had Nadal, Federer and Thiem (where he won 5 slams so I guess these 3 suck somehow). From 2021 to 2023 he had Medvedev and Alcaraz (both slam winners so I guess they suck like Roddick and Del Potro). And he also had Tsitsipas and Zverev (both have more finals then Philippussis, Baghdatis, Gonzales - so I guess they suck even more than Federer's rivals). He won 7 slams then, more than Roger won before Nadal entered his era.

A real salt case for Fedal fans for example was Wimbledon 2019....still, with all that salt, just take your time, put on some objectiveness and start reading all of his records, salt or not salt, that again doesn't matter. That doesn't work that way that the records say "many of those records achieved with lots of salt, sweat, luck, fate" whatever...I am just talking about straight facts, you can not argue with that...I mean you can, but it is not relevant if you catch my drift 😂
