@@alfrede.neuman1257 ik its very easy to lie over the internet so I don't blame you for calling bs. But think about it. They have to March a lot of different themes each time they perform. Players for the football teams get less than a week to go over and practice plays they're gonna call in less than a week I'd imagine. I mean idk much of college football but I imagine the band has to keep some sort of pace as the team itself since they're performing for them

Hi! Ohio State alumni here! The other ship was for the University of Michigan (or as we call them in Ohio, That Team Up North), and they are our rivals in football. Not much of a rivalry as we continue to smoke them every year, but we keep the tradition going so they have something to look forward to each year ;) Also, the Drum Major was the one with the baton. They have to be really athletic for their job, and they have to be really talented as well. They do a lot of backbends and flips and other really impressive stuff that gets them a lot of credit at house parties. They have to go through a really rigorous audition process to get the chance to become the drum major. And in fact if you google "drum major" one of the first photos that comes up is of the Ohio state one! Sorry for the rant. I don't know if you could tell, but Ohio state fans are pretty passionate! lol

In the US, the bands perform in the middle of the game. Yes, the band is made up of students, most of them studying music. Some of us get the opportunity to start in band or orchestra in our middle school years and then once you can play fairly decent they teach you how to march in secondary, or high school. I loved the years I spent in the band and cheerfully call myself a band nerd.

You guys have to see their performance at Wembley during the NFL game... You will love it being British and all. The second formation that no one can figure out is the Eye or Sauromon (that appears in the tower in the lord of the rings movies). Few things: College football is an all day event. Most people go down in the morning and drink and tailgate for hours before the game. Getting tickets to an Ohio State football game is expensive. It holds 107,000 and it always sold out. If you want to see a big game like Michigan you have to pay upwards of $400 for a ticket.

I strongly recommend you guys check out the High School marching scene over here--every year there's a Grand Nationals competition in Indianapolis, IN. The shows are far more complex than college shows, since the high school show is practiced all year, whereas most college shows are just for the next football game. Also, there's a lot of motivation to get good because of the nearly weekly competitions most decent bands perform in. I used to be a part of that. Hands down the best moment of my life is finishing my senior year finals show at our Illinois State marching competition, knowing we left everything we had on the field.

If you go there make sure you go EARLY so you can take in the traditions like skull session. Others I would recommend are Penn state for a night white out game, Nebraska and Iowa. That said, most colleges and the town/city they are in have some tradition or history that is worthy of being experienced. Do your research before you go so you don't miss anything. Some traditions happen at specific places at specific times and not just "in" the stadium. Oh and don't forget to make sure your wearing the right colors :p

If no one has mentioned it, the craziest thing about The OSU Marching Band's half time performances is they do multiple different shows every year, a new one for each home game. You should also check out Script Ohio.

The guy in the middle and running around throwing the baton around is called the Drum Major. He/she is the student who is field commander (and obviously a performer here) of the band. Some of the larger marching bands have 4 or 5 drum majors to lead the band.

There is another tradition in college football, (well, in professional as well), known as Tailgating. Fans show up in their vehicles outside the stadium and set up their grills to have barbecues and beverages before the games. This is especially true of night games. Instead of sitting in a bar (pub) the fans cook their own foods, enjoy their own drinks, and socialize for several hours before the actual game. Night games have an especially different atmosphere to them, partially due to the pre-game partying (tailgating) that goes on. Just a little FYI for you guys. (Oh, the bars fill up AFTER the game).

I once had to drive nearly 25 hours to watch my cousin play in the rose bowl in 2015. They won the game but didn’t win the championship. The halftime shows are cool and are just as entertaining as the games themselves.

If anyone wants to see something that's a classic tradition in football watch script Ohio. The dotting of the i is also an important tradition, students who do it play the sousaphone, if it's a special game then they have a guest do it. A lot of former couches like Woody Hayes have done it, former University Presidents have done it, John Glenn did it. To be asked to dot the i is a HUGE honor.

I’m from Ohio, although I did not attend school at The Ohio State University (OSU). I cheer on the Buckeyes every year, in addition to the university that I attended in Toledo, Ohio. Yes, the marching band members are students at OSU. The OSU marching band has a new halftime show (similar to the one you reacted to) for every game played at OSU’s stadium. There is a KZread video of the OSU Marching Band performing at Wembley Stadium for a American professional football game. University football is almost, if not bigger (draws larger crowds), than professional football. Even though Ohio itself has two professional football teams. OSU’s stadium holds over 100,000 people, which is usually (non Covid-19 years) sold out every game. Typical American football stadiums only hold up to about 80,000 on the higher end. If you want to watch an American college football game, OSU is a good team to watch. In 2020, they are competing for a university national championship. The blue & gold “M” flag in the video that you reacted to, is for OSU’s biggest rival/competitor, Michigan. These two teams play each other once a season. In the U.S.A. this football match-up it is simply known as “The Game,” because it is a long-standing rival (over 100 years). There is a separate Michigan State University team who also happens to be in the same athletic conference as Michigan & OSU. You are permitted to drink at university stadiums, but that only started within the last 5-10 years. Hope you will enjoy a good American university football game, and react to more OSU Marching Band videos. Hope that you enjoyed the “Blockbuster Movie” halftime performance.

Here in the states we have tailgate (from way back, using the tailgate of a station wagon as a serving table) parties in the parking lot. We barbecue/grill food on portable grills before the game. That is almost as big of an event as the game. Tailgate parties start hours before the actual game.

In these games, the stadium is generally packed. The half time, fans will head for the toilets and concession stands. Some will wait to see the halftime stuff. Sometimes there are extra activities such as a T-shirt cannon. They might bring out fans to participate in a mini competition. It’s generally fun.

Don't know if you noticed but... before Superman saves the falling building, he backs up in a 'phonebooth' .... notice the red ribbon with the word 'phone' on it to show that Clark Kent goes into the phone booth to change into Superman. Haven't heard any reactor mention it. The second, Lord of the Rings and the Eye of Sauran. The third, Harry Potter (his inials and the 'Z' scar) and the Quidditch game (with the Golden Snitch that Harry must catch) flying around the field until Harry catches it. Then Jurassic Park with the T-Rex eating the people. Then Pirates of the Caribbean with the Ohio ship sinking the Michigan ship (two rivals in football). This is amazing.

Hello from Columbus. I actually attended that game. Great marching band, eh? Our football team isn’t to bad either. The video doesn’t do a good job of showing how large Ohio Stadium is. Capacity is around 112,000. It almost always sells out for Football games. If you enjoyed this, then I suggest viewing a video of their pregame show. It’s an excellent example of martial precision marching. They finish the show by performing script OHIO as they march across the field. It’s been a tradition since 1936.

Life long WVU fan. Come on over! We're a rowdy bunch at our games, but you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer group of folks (provided you're not Pitt fans). Pro tip: make sure (no matter what school you visit) that you come see a good competitive game. The first couple games for most of the major schools are typically tune-ups against smaller schools. Later in the season (Oct-Nov) is when the best conference matchups and rivalries are always scheduled.
