The Ogallala Aquifer

Ғылым және технология

The Ogallala aquifer in the United States is at risk of depletion. This 174,000 sq mile aquifer provides so much water to the Great Plains region, but is being recharged at a fraction of the rate it is being used. Learn about the great Ogallala aquifer and what can be done to preserve it in this student made video.
This fantastic video was made by Michael Champion as a final project for the class "Geoscience Video and Animation" at UT Dallas

Yes, it is a terrible problem. A big aquifer was found off the coast of NJ, NY, MA found by Woods Hole under the Ocean. This will not help the Midwest but its good to know.

the best way i can explain why america has been so rapidly depleted of topsoil and fossil water resources: ( and why african americans have been intentionally collecting and cooking, the otherwise safe, clean, regulated prescription pharmaceutical alternative, into deadly concentrations of the active ingredient fentanyl to kill people with ) is with a History Lesson ( concerning "no talk" topics ) HEROIN STATED IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA, people who went there ended up on it, and it quickly spread .... so Other People HAD TO make their own heroin, to treat their affected, To Avert Losing Their Autonomy. Sub-Saharan Africa Uses Heroin Like A Weapons System.... NO OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EVER MADE IT FOR ANY OTHER REASON THAN A DEFENSIVE MEASURE. they don't report their numbers, they don't report their incomes, but they will breed faster than the food grows, if feed.

What can I do to get consistent water flow. For now I believe the water level dropped during dry season. Resulting in inconsistent water flow through pump system. We use quite a strong electric pump but water flow in pipe is on off on off. With 50second intervals. Will adding a few feet of pipe to go deeper solve the problem?

The black and white picture and the text ‘the dry waste land it once was’ suggest that without groundwater it would liok like that. In fact this was caused by industrialized agriculture (causing the Dust Bowl). So keep the groundwater where it is and use modern techniques to save the soil instead

Massive multi level Indoor vegetable food factories using the rotary revolving unit method but on a massive multi state scale. Water usage would be minimal but high output 365 days of the year.. all of the facilities together could feed the Nation and cut water usage by 85%.

First it was NEVER a dry wast land! Maybe you could not plant it but it was good for grass and cattle. Second, is being recharge, and in wet years some places now flood from ground water. We do have to use it wisely and not waste it and will out last all of us.

Can't rivers be partially diverted by pipeline to the aquifer rather than running to the sea? If you can run oil pipelines OVER the aquifer you should be able to run a pipeline INTO the aquifer. Mother nature will take abt 6,000 years at approx.1/2 inch a year to refill it.

El Paso has a reclamation facility and they mainly use it to pump back into the aquifers there. Great solution.

Plants free of water deficit events more efficiently absorb available plant nutrients enabling plants to achieve their maximum genetic potential. SWRT membranes installed below plant root systems retain water where it falls, providing continuous delivery of drought-free periods up to 3 times longer than intensely irrigated control sands without root zone water retention membranes (Guber et al, 2016).

Great video with poor solutions. Use less water? Never works. So I tell everyone to use 10% less water, then the population goes up 15% in the next 15 years. I’ve just used more water. The ONLY way to increase the aquifer level long term is to refill it. Desalination or rivers, although using rivers has consequences on their own.
