The Official Murder In Boston Official Podcast | Episode 1 | HBO

Ойын-сауық

Charles Stuart dials 911 from his car phone. He’s lost somewhere in Boston and bleeding out. His pregnant wife, Carol, is in the seat next to him, with a gunshot wound to the head. This white couple from the suburbs was just carjacked upon leaving a birthing class at a hospital and drawn deep into Mission Hill. They are the epitome of the urban nightmare of the late 1980s. And their terror is captured on tape.

i was in high school at the time, same thing happened in my class- not me, but one kid said charles did it, and the teacher said "how can you say that, you should be ashamed of yourself". once the truth started coming out, the teacher apologized to the kid for his reaction.

I'm from Reading where the "Stewarts" lived, but was living in NYC when this happened in Boston. When I heard they'd blamed a man from Mission Hill. Well I had lots of friends; many from Roxbury. Nice families. I never , ever thought it was a black man who shot them. I knew it was a white man. Then heard Charles jumped off the Tobin Bridge. So sorry he slipped!

Wow i was literally his next door neighbor at yhe same time and aame age. I was in 8 racine on the second floor fisrt door at the steps. Willie was my big cousin and we were treated so badly. I never once thought i came from a bad neighborhood until i got older. Life wasnt this for us. We had a great time growing up. Of course you had bad things that happened but the media made us look like monsters even without this unfortunate event. Keep the strength family

Never been so ashamed to be from Boston in my life. Those people during the bussing should be an ashamed of themselves…they are to blame how this case was handled. His reaction (lack there of) at the crime scene should’ve been the start of red flags and alarm bells going off! Boston, do better!

@@MutedGrowl This actually happened in 1989. My little sister was born in 89, and she’s now 34. That might seem like a long time ago, but for something like THIS to happen?? It feels like it was just yesterday, son. As a matter of fact, I can promise you that whoever handled this case is either still alive, or retired and receiving their pension. THEY haven’t forgotten about it, so why should we??

Chuck was stalling for time so his wife could die. Also, the police dispatcher was able to locate the car by having the police cars each use their sirens and how close it sounded on Chucks phone. He won an award for his quick thinking. Rip Carol and baby.

I'm watching the docuseries on HBO/MAX and wondered how they got the video of Charles at the crime scene and at the hospital being worked on in the emergency. This podcast and your comment explained that.

Sadly, this was a banner story for every local paper and TV. The twists and turns were unimaginable. Every day we were glued to the media. It was so dramatic, because they seemed like the ideal couple, baby on the way. Carol was an amazing, brilliant woman, with a soaring career ahead of her. I think Chuck was jealous of her, because he didn't have a scintilla of her idealism and ambition.

Don’t be fooled. I remember being 10 years old when this happened. As a white kid in the suburbs, I remember seeing black people in the news talking about how traumatizing it was, some were yelling about racism. I remember watching the adults around me talk about them being lucky that they had it do good and they were lucky it wasn’t the 50s anymore. We heard things like “if he didn’t do this… he did something”. Even today you’ll hear 70-80 year olds say it’s the worst thing that ever happened to Boston. No because it gave us a black eye, but because it caused the city to change “for the worse”. Back in 1989 we pointed to the 50s so we could feel good about ourselves for all the “progress”. 35 years later, we look back at 1989 with sickness and shame. It doesn’t matter that some of us were only 10. I was surrounded by people who made the “other” comments and they of course affected me and my prejudices. I hope in 2055 when we look back to today as we tell black people to get over it and point out how well some are doing that those people will see the awfulness. I hate to throw current politics in there, but Dunn is a Trump supporter which isn’t at all shocking watching his behavior.

My grandma and grandpa stepped off the boat from County Cork, Ireland in the 1920s and settled in poor but proud Mission Hill. Successfully raised a family of 4, with the Our Lady of Perpeptual Help being the center of their lives. It has really changed. As all cities do. For better AND for worse. This story was so shocking in the 90s, especially that Chuck chose the location and the narrative to divert suspicion from him onto an entire neighborhood ... inflaming so much unresolved racial tension. So, sooooo shameful.

I clearly remember when this happened. I remember the reporting on the cops just going into the black neighborhood without any information and thought how incredibly terrible to just accuse every black person!! I like the rest of the country wanted justice for that poor woman and her unborn baby but you can’t blame every black man for their deaths!! I remember thinking that if the only information they had was that it was a white guy they wouldn’t be in the white neighborhoods harassing every white guy!! To find out it was the husband I was even more angry that he not only killed his wife and baby but he victimized a whole community!!!

@@kikiwilliams4980 "Happening all the time"? only in certain fantasies based on HIStoric "ism"s. Your explanation is why Stuart tried it. The Psycho/Sociopathic Charles Stuart is the point. He's the one that caused all the events. He's the one that not only killed, decided to cunningly play on certain folks' prejudices and to his credit, he wasn't wrong, just poorly executed. And actually, a "spouse" being killed,....the "Charles Stuarts" of the world are MORE reasonable. IOWs, "happening all the time." All you have to do is research.

@@kikiwilliams4980 that's false actually. In murders of women it's almost always the partner but that went out the window because of the racial aka racism that had infiltrated Boston for decades. Literally look up the busing and you'll see the racism in speaking ofm even to today if you're murdered it's generally someone you know or someone whom looks just like you. Black or White crime it's about the same. Ppl just use black on black crime to make it seem like blacks are somehow more evil. When if a white person is killed most of the time it's another white person. The numbers don't like. Check the FBI crime stats. What you've fallen for is propaganda the media pushes to create fear
