The Off-Screen Life of TV's Western Hero John Russell, Dan Troop from Lawman

The Off-Screen Life of TV's Western Hero John Russell, Dan Troop from Lawman.
John Russell (1921-1991) was an American actor who appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career. He is perhaps best known for his role as Marshal Dan Troop in the popular Western TV series "Lawman," which aired from 1958 to 1962. With his imposing height and rugged good looks, Russell was a natural fit for Western roles, and he appeared in several other TV shows and movies in the genre. In addition to his acting work, Russell was also a skilled horseman and often performed his own stunts. Despite his success, Russell was known for his private nature and kept a low profile outside of his work.

He was so handsome, and even more so in his 50s and 60s.

I loved watching him in several western movies when he was younger and heavier, he kept getting skinnier as years went by because he was a heavy smoker with emphysema which would eventually take his life. He was good in any role he did.

Where are you watching? All I can get is a couple opening minutes of an episode entitled The Deputy. I've tried several platforms. I loved this show back in the day, even more than Gunsmoke.

Lawman was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I tell you, at 10 years old, he was my first TV crush and he was 30 years older! Forget Peter Brown the other girls liked but I could see John's chiseled handsome looks and that mustache drove me wild-in fact, I have loved mustache's on men ever since then! Thanks for this on an actor who never got to really show his chops! He would have been great in the war movies instead of just westerns.

Lawman brought order into my life, at first I wouldn’t watch lawman cause he took death vallley days spot. My sister kept telling me to give it a chance, I then became obsessed. Lawman is on three times a day and I have two complete dvd sets, one for the house, and one set poolside. I wear a lawman t shirt every day. Lawman brought order to my life. Thank God for lawman.

The Narrator never mentioned anything about John’s FINAL ROLE: that of the evil MARSHAL STOCKBURN in Clint EASTWOOD’S “PALE RIDER.”

John was my dad's cousin. I never had the chance to meet him but I did meet his sister several years ago. I love family history and this branch of the family is quite rich. His middle name, Lawrence, is a family name and was my grandfather's name.

Wait a minute. All this lengthy dialogue on an appearance of a fifties episode and NO MENTION IF HIS ROLE IN PALE RIDER? You could have spent time on that and the story behind him getting this late in life notable role.
