Colossal Squid and Giant Squid were indeed myth for quite a while. They're pretty rare (because they exist so deep in the Ocean) and that means that for a long time the only references were very, very rare times sailors would see them or when they washed ashore (but I think they decompose/explode quickly due to the lack of pressure or something. I have no clue as to why there wasn't more evidence) but they were discovered to exist a while ago and there's footage of living Giant and Colossal Squid you can see afaik. The myth of them sinking Ships is infact a myth I believe and probably came from stories when people saw them and thought they looked like mythical creatures. Also, Megaladons aren't mythical, they are simply extinct. They DID exist and some people say they might still exist but are simply extremely rare or hard to find. An example of a similar thing happening is the Coelacanth, a rare order of fish that was thought extinct. They thought it had gone extinct 66 million years ago and only fossils were found. Then in the 30s the first live being of the species was found. The second was found in the 90s.

All squids have hard “beaks” and when animals eat squids the beak doesn’t break down.. Well with that said we know the colossal squid exist because we have found beaks that our the size of footballs in the gut of a blues whale, indicating that squids body would have to be around 90 feet long :) so ya there out there lol btw love ur guys channel!

Yes it was Jim Cameron the director. Deep sea diving is a hobby for him. Although he didn't find the Titanic, he did take many submarine trips down to the wreckage, both for footage for the move of the same name, and for a Disney documentary about the ill-fated cruise liner. And then he basically tied the world record for the deepest dive down in the Mariana Trench.

Every *_10 meters_* (33ft) *_underwater is equal to about one atmosphere of pressure._* Imagine *_3 Grizzly Bears_* sitting on your chest, that's what it feels like at 30-40m down. *It's difficult for your lungs to expand and take in enough air with that amount of pressure on your chest* and it's why most recreational scuba divers don't go past 40 meters. Not to mention all the other dangers like *_decompression sickness_* (when exiting that amount of pressure too quickly), *_nitrogen narcosis_* (basically getting drunk underwater, lowers your cognitive function), *_pulmonary embolism_* (ascending too quickly, your lungs basically explode), and lots of other dangers as you increase in depth.

The reason you haven't heard of gigantic and colossal squids, is they have only ever caught a few of them, or found their beak's in Sperm Whale stomachs. They caught one off the coast of New Zealand about 10 years ago. It had latched itself on to a tooth fishers line and refused to let go. It was massive, its body alone was probably twice the length of a man. They put it on ice and put it in a museum in New Zealand, but sadly it shrunk by about 30% and lost its red colouring. There are pics on google of it before they haul it on the boat, and its huge.

Military Deep Sea Diver here. A lof of their pressure stuff accurate in the amount of pressure, your body adjusts to ambient pressure. Fluids do not compress, it's air that you have to deal with. The problem is air gets pressurized so much your blood with begin allow for more hydrogen to be absorbed to an extreme amount. That's fine until you want to go up. Then those absorbed little hydrogen molecules get expelled through your lungs as they begin to turn back into gas. But if you you come up too fast, they still turn into bubbles in your blood stream and meet up with more bubbles to make big bubbles. If you have a bubble bigger than a capillary in your joints, you get shorter. If it's in your brain, lungs or heart, you shit the bed. You might be lucky enough to survive, but you might not want to if you know the results. Another problem with air is that it expands and contracts. If you hold your breath and go on that free dive to 33 feet, you will have the same amount of air, except it will take half the volume. A balloon filled at sea level, then pulled underwater to 33 feet would be half the size. So, if you took the breath from a scuba setup, you are taking in a full size lung of air to fill your lungs, but you see a shark and bolt to the surface (without screaming underwater like an idiot) and hold your breath, the air gets bigger, but your lungs stay the same size. It's not as hard to keep your airway closed as it is easy for the air to punch little holes in your lungs. Rice Crispies! At least that's what I've heard your chest sounds like after that. We have all our wisdom teeth pulled because they are cavity prone. Air gets in there too, and what if some saliva or your tongue blocks it from getting out on the way up? Now you have an air molecule wider than the cavity it got in from. Sometimes you can't go back down... you have to keep going until POP! You exploded your tooth from the inside, slowly. Also, this is why you don't go on a flight with a really clogged up nose. Same can happen with your sinuses. The flight attendants usually have MucinX or one of those "Make everything into a rapid watery goo" solutions. But it wouldn't crush you unless you were in a rigid container full of air, like a submarine. If they really cared they would fill the sub full of water and you would breath through a regulator. You could go way deeper. Fun Fact about the joints comment. They guys working on the NY Tunnel would feel great at work, then go home and hunch over in horrible pain, until they got back to work. Because they didn't know what it was, and all the people were all bent over, they called it "The Bends". Dive Physics are amazingly interesting!

James Cameron is a bad ass. If you were to remove the love story aspect of Titanic the movie is about 95% historically accurate. He spent years diving in the DSV Alvin to the wreck site to document everything he could about it before producing the film. He even said he only added the love story because he didn't think anyone would be interested in watching it without some kind of side plot (I mean, we all know how it ended right?). There's a great documentary about his whole process on YT you can watch. :D

fun fact, the mariana’s trench helps protect guam from big tsunamis. when the big wave goes over the trench, it dies out a bit bc of how deep it is. there has only been one tsunami big enough to cause devastating damage to guam and that was in 1993. this was before i was born but i have heard people talk about it saying power and water was out for months and everyone had to drink boiled water since the clean water got contaminated. the most damage we get is from typhoons and flooding from heavy rains.

60 year old white guy here. You guys are the best reaction ones out here. Even though you look stoned as hell. I know because I grew up in Miami and I'm an x Stoner myself. You're not trying to give advice or explain the jokes to people like all the other reaction people. and you're actually watching things besides comedy. Even though Bill Burr and Louis CK are my absolute favorites. Keep on doing what you doing hope you guys make a lot of money. Seriously

Let your mind be blown even further: Even as deep as the ocean is, and as high as the mountains are, the surface of the earth is smoother than a billiards ball, relative to it's scale. The peaks and valleys only seem large to us, but to the scale of the earth they are nothing.
