Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without this seasonal favorite, in which a young girl's enchanted present leads her on a wonderful adventure.
In this recording The Royal Ballet performs the Waltz of the Snowflakes in The Nutcracker, with Meaghan Grace Hinkis as Clara, Ricardo Cervera as the Nutcracker and Gary Avis as Drosselmeyer, accompanied by the London Oratory Junior Choir and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, conducted by Koen Kessels, recorded in 2012.
Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker score was commissioned by the director of the Russian Imperial Theatres, following the resounding success of Sleeping Beauty in 1890. Marius Petipa created the scenario - based on a fairytale by E. T. A. Hoffman - and Lev Ivanov provided the choreography. The Nutcracker was first performed in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. It initially had a poor reception, but its combination of enchanting choreography and an unforgettable score have since made it one of the best-loved of all ballets.
In Peter Wright's classic production, the stage sparkles with theatrical magic - a Christmas tree grows before our eyes, toy soldiers come to life to fight the villainous Mouse King and Clara is whisked to the Land of Sweets on a golden sleigh. Tchaikovsky's score contains some of the best-known melodies in ballet, from the flurrying sounds of the Waltz of the Snowflakes to the dream-like Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the vigorous Russian Dance. Julia Trevelyan Oman's designs draw upon 19th-century images of Christmas, making this a classic production for the festive season.

    Thcaikovsky was actually asked to create music to go with the choreography of the Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky said "It's not done this way! First you make music, then you base choreography around the music." But the choreographer insisted that Tchaikovsky come up with a beautiful score, and he did, making history yet again with his creative, ingenious music.

    Suzanna Lam that’s such cute song! Thank you for writing this because ballet needs to be a part of pop culture more! If I can offer a critique for the album cover, the dancer in the front is not facing the right direction. It’s not that big of a deal but if you do another ballet song make sure you have professional ballet dancer only and that you have a dancer check the picture over for any mistakes. I only say this because people in the ballet community can be very harsh when seeing images/videos of other dancers

    I heard smt so interesting from a dancer at ENB. She said when she's rehearsing this number she knows her position in the ensemble cos she recognises the ppl she's following. When they get to dress rehearsal suddenly everyone looks exactly the same so it's hard to pick out where you are in relation to everyone else lol

    Very easy to make, silk jersey would be best, like Halston dresses, but light fabric, cut a full circle neck to high mid calf of your measure, sew weights into hem and sequins. This is Dead Easy even for non sewers. I have half a dozen cloaks on Etsy.

    The amount of people that say they wish they did ballet in performance videos is so big, it makes me sad. You've still got time to begin! Don't let people crush your dreams, because it's your life and you should do what makes you happy. It's better to try it and then leave, than to live with the regret of having never tried at all

  • @alyssagrady3744

    @alyssagrady3744

    +nmjscot The DVD has a different cast than the one shown here (except for the guy playing out Drosselmeyer; he is on the DVD in the same role). The DVD cast has Miyako Yoshida as the Sugarplum Fairy, Steven McRae as her Cavalier, Gary Avis as Drosselmeyer (which he plays out in this video clip), Iohna Loots as Clara, and Ricardo Cervera as the Nutcracker (who plays out that same role in this video clip). So, overall, the only difference you see here in this video clip is that Hinkis plays out Clara, not Loots. And this was from a cinema screening that was not released on DVD. The DVD is of the same production, but it was filmed back in 2009. This was filmed in 2012 and, I repeat, was not released on DVD. The 2009 DVD release is the latest version of the Royal Ballet's Nutcracker that you can find on DVD.

    All we see is how beautiful and talented they are. But we aren't aware of the blood, sweat and tears it must've took them to get this far. I'm learning to play violin, and God is it the most frustrating thing in the world. But looking at videos like this, of people becoming this good at something they love, motivates me to master the fu** outta violin. Seeing ppl play violin like it was so effortless, just makes me go, I WANT THAT. Work hard y'all. Hope u get where u wanna be.
