As a student I was present at an event like this, saying good bye to many things and entering into a life of devotion and self sacrifice. Most of the nuns were wonderful and very caring.

I watched this movie just out of sheer interest. But after experiencing such vivid details of lives of catholic nuns, their dilemmas while carrying out- chastity, poverty and obedience. Their devotion towards Christ, serving those who in needs. I ended up un tears.

Trust me, it would not be of any concern to someone who was dedicating their life to Jesus Christ.... his bride in fact. It's renunciation of the world and it's vanity. You cannot see the true picture from a movie clip. Why not check out some of the real videos of life as a nun on KZread. More glowing faces you will never see in this world. Detachment is essential for a person who look for spiritual growth.. it is not only in Christianity but also in religions like Hinduism, Budhism Janism etc.. The monks and Nuns in all these practice some kinds of detachment.. In Buddhism and in some sects of Hinduism religious( nuns and monks) shave of their hair..

The primary reason for the cutting of the hair of nuns was so the headpiece of the habit would fit comfortably. Like many things in religious life , it often took on a spiritual significance. Today with rare exceptions there are few nuns who wear religious habits, or live in convents . In fact, there are almost no Nuns at all! All this came to an end after the Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s . The “Nuns”, got rid of the religious habit, adopted secular attire, often used make up and jewelry and lived in apartments. and adopted radical feminism. That was the end of religious life in most places.

This makes me want to cry.

People over here crying that she got a haircut. I think it looks even better short! I remember people always made fun of me because I got it cut, it made me feel self conscious. Long hair does not equal beauty. The first time I got it cut short I cried because it was a surprise. The hairstyles cut it way shorter than I asked.

Nuns needs to go into a state of Chasity, obedience, poverty and to show NO humiliation to anyone (including herself and God). The cutting of her hair will show that she has left behind the materialistic and narcissistic attitudes of her life prior to entering the convent, everything that she knew, everything that she thought about herself has literally been cut away from her. Her life is now dedicated to God.

I agree with you wholheartedly, but Jesus never said to Cut nun's hair. Look at Holy Mary and Mary Magdalene....they had long hair of course and so many of the saints women did, too.

When l first watch this movie l found this part, so shocking!😲 But my mother, explained to me what a wonderful sacrifice, she was making! Her love, for her Savior came before everything. It was a outward act, of forsaking worldly things and choosing to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. 🙇 Now l watch it, and think how beautiful! 😊

Why do you bring up Hinduism in a place where it is not involved ? Plus , this kind of life exists in Hinduism too . I believe those group of women no longer exist but they are called as devadasis , and while they did devote their life to their gods like Christian nuns some of the rules and lifestyles differed from them. Also the women over here chose to do it themselves and no one is forcing them .

Ana Francisca Z i follow many preists and they even said that christian religion have told woman to be covered.i atleast never see mother marry pic in bikini outside church which shows that covering is modest.i totally understand that catholics or christians does not hve intrest to follow their rules anymore and they follow whatever they feel to but that does not change the teaching of religion.i dnt see how covering make a women dumb or effect mental abilities coz if covering yourself have anything to do being backward or less progressiv then catholic religion will never ask a nun even to do so.so point is only that if catholics dnt want to follow religion its theor choice but they r not suppose to force other people not follow their religion and let other make choices.

St Augustine said ''My heart is not at rest until it rest in Thee..." Cutting hair is a matter of detachment too.. in many religion monks and nuns follow this.. In Hinduism and Budhism they shave off the hair...

Sean Zii They choose to have their hair cut off. Not all religious orders do that anymore. A woman hair is a sign of beauty. They cover it up because they know true beauty is on the inside. Besides if you had long hair and you wore a veil over it all the time it would be harder to take care of and there's no point because it is covered all the time.

Sunshine Girl Hello and thank you for your reply. I do understand what you're saying for I used to believe the same and I do not doubt their motives for doing so. But then again, let's remember the story of Aaron's sons who were considered worthy of death because they offered "unholy fire" before the Lord's tabernacle. Most of these traditions find their roots in exalting man and not the Creator for if they did, they would not go against His Word. Moreover, the sacrifices God desires are a broken spirit and a contrite heart sister (Psalm 51:17). Shalom and God bless.
