I recent bought the copper scaled version of this knife that was released in early 2020, and it has none of these issues. Blade is centered, lock is centered, lockups are solid, and the clip stays in place really well. Just for any who are 100% ready to write it off... it would be odd for gtac to get two lemons... but I have a good one for whatever that might be worth. (Not arguing, just tossing out some info on a later released knife of the same design)

Also worth noting that everyone has a different tolerance level for price vs quality control and for price vs issues with knives. Things like detent strength or knurling or "drop shuttyness" etc... it really depends on the buyer. How much experience they have with different price ranges and quality levels plays a big role in these factors. Someone who has a bunch of knives around the 100$ or under mark may think these are great, but someone who has a bunch of $500+ knives (that are actually quality justifying the price) might find these unacceptable. Even experience with different brands plays a role. Some brands are just better at making quality knives with good actions than others even at a relatively low price point. If all a person knows is Gerber... well.... *I'm not saying that's you and I'm not trying to be a jerk, just something to think about. I'm glad you got a good one, I just wish the ones I tried were good... I really like the form factor and the way they did the flipper tab on top instead of sticking out the back.

@@squirts1 oh for sure! was just offering a varied opinion, I don't own anything in the 500 dollar range but I own Civivi, Spyerco, Kaiser, Benchmade, Etc. I will admit a year later that this knife does not get much pocket time, while the fit and finish of mine was and is fine i actually found that I dont like the top flipper. To each their own lol.

I just love the blade shape and the blade-to-handle ratio on these... You just save me some serious frustrations.

I picked one up in person at Blade HQ. I don't have any of these issues. Maybe I got lucky. But then of course I took it out of the box and made sure it was good before I bought it. It was the first one they handed me. The blade centering was off but I was able to adjust it. I honestly love mine.

Hey I know this is an old video. But I just bought 3 blade HQ exclusive versions of this knife and they have addressed all of the issues you have mentioned. It's pretty interesting.

Or just not get a reduced one. Reduced ones are reduced for a reason, they won't rot and they are a seller. So you can imagine why they were reduced. You still get what you paid for :D

I just bought this knife with Brass scales and I have none of those issues. Blade centering is perfect, the clip is solid and lockup is great. The cost was $49 from BladeHQ.

I use the Ganzo Firebird FH21 with D2 blade and G10 Handle as a EDC for 2 years now. The knife has ball bearings and has a rated 60HRC . Super knife for 25$, good allignment of the blade and no wonky clip

Just purchased my first Boker, the Warbird. It's a great piece. Fall shut right out of the box. I have benn wanting to pick up a Gent Folder for a while now, and the Kansei made the list after playing with the Warbird for a few week. Glad I can now scratch the Kansei off the list.

Looks like Boker made some updates since this video was released. I bought the g10 black version on bladehq and my pocket clip is totally different design. No side to side play, blade is centered, and no wobble of the pocket clip.

Boker plus frelon ... is excellent Worth to look into if looking for a folder with superb ergonomic and with a traditional feel

Just bought one G-10 version at a very good price had none of these problems and mine had a deep carry clip now. I can't fault it for the money.

BHQ has micarta and I think brass and copper exclusives too. I was going to buy the micarta maybe the copper too. They are still pretty damn cheap and I do love the Kwaiken and Zinker knives from Boker the only Bokers I own.

Benchmade is my favorite knife brand but one of my 940’s has horrible centering even after taking the whole knife apart and evenly tightening all the body screws and pivot. No matter how much I tighten or loosen the pivot it’s still really close to the scale and touches when putting pressure on the thumb stud and it has plenty blade play because if I tighten it even a tiny bit more from where it is right now the blade won’t move at all.

I'm sorry to hear that man. That sucks. I actually just handled one at BladeShow and immediately ordered one from BladeHQ. I got the G10 and there is no blade play or side to side wobble. Also, the centering is perfect. Also, the clip is tight like a tiger. Paid 66 bucks.

Well thats a shame because I was planning on getting that knife for the same reasons. Dont want a poorly made knife, thanks for sharing your experience with this one.

Spoiler alert...if it's a short video on a knife and it's not a follow up/update video...its not going to be a favorable review. Love the honesty and objective views Aaron. Great as always.

There are a lot of loved Boker knives I wonder what happened with this model.

I have a crkt CEO and I like it. I don't care for the thumb stud and hard detent that much though. If it was a flipper I would probably love it. I have been considering getting an urban trapper or Kwaiken just because they are flippers. But my CEO was only 40 bucks. I have been looking at trying to figure out how I can add something to it to make it a flipper lol.

Please review some Twosun knives...for the same price or lower, you get much better quality and value.

Damn that pocket clip is wonky.

GT- thanx for posting this. The knife was starting to look a bit attractive to me. Much easier not to order than to go the return hoops.

Boker has a 25 year warranty that covers every issue you have. I'm not saying that excuses it but if you cared to do that know it's there.

Right! I've got a bokermatic 700 that I bought new when I was in high-school in the early to mid 90s and they've replaced the worn out spring twice in all that time no problem. I own dozens of boker plus knives and rarely have a issue with quality that isn't a simple fix for anyone with a little skill and knowledge of knives.

Generally (with some exceptions), pronouncing rōmaji like Spanish gets you pretty close to the proper Japanese pronunciation. Love this Kansei design / styling and the subtle tabs for deploying the blade by thumb or finger flip. Bummer to hear about the flaws you highlighted. I ordered a titanium one anyway because of the pros I mentioned, in addition I felt the aesthetics of the titanium model were too compelling for me not to pull the trigger.

Update: Received the titanium model. Blade is perfectly centered between the liners, lateral blade wobble is negligible, and the pocket clip is solidly mounted. That said, this version of this model is more than twice other Kaisen LRF’s, so I’m glad the quality control, at least on the knife I got, was decent.

Negative reviews are helpful, do not be afraid to do them. Most of boker is china, part is germany. I have had both good & bad with both.

Shit, not 75 no more! They want 102 with tax now. Just cancelled my order watched another video and they didn’t hit on the cons and I am big on a knife being centered when closed! And oh hell no on the lose clip! Thankfully I got in cancelled! Another 2min and I woulda been stuck , I actually canceled after just hearing you say it and came back to watch what the problems was. Thank you brother! Appreciate it! Figured if you was saying don’t buy it and the price was 20 dollars cheaper, sure I can find a lot better one for 100 bucks! Really liked the looks of that one you got any recommendations? Thanks again! ✌️

Seems to me seeing how far the linerlocks go into and irregular they are at 3:02 someone fiddled with both locks to give em more pressure and that would definitely push the blade off center when closed. Have a few of the kansei designs who are all rather similar except the blade form and none of them is that warped and all are at same angle.

I have 5 Boker knives and no issues.

Would you take a crkt CEO as your gentleman folder for the price?

Owned two Bokers. Both had issues. No more Boker crap for me. IMO CIVIVI McKenna much better gentleman's folder.

A $25 Ganzo doesn't have those wobble issues - blade and clip... Not good..

Yep. If you like that slender shape, grab a Firebird FH11. Or go with a FH21 or FH51 if you like something a little more interesting. I do like those wood scales though.

My same issues with the Spyderco Paysan....

Ball bearing but it's a seated version, like on a bushing, if that makes sense. Some knives are rolling on 'loose' ball bearings, if that makes sense, I think that's why he keeps saying "ball bearing bushing". I hope that helps, cheers

Disappointing to hear that you did not like it. I have been looking at this as my next knife purchase as the style is exactly what I have been looking for. OK, honest question: other than blade centering (which isn’t something I ever pay much attention to), and the pocket clip (which I would most likely remove on a knife like this), are there other reason that would dissuade you from buying it? Thanks for all the great information!

I've stayed away from Boker lately. QC has been terrible.

1. Make it is Britain. 2. Use G10 plastic scales so they don’t split or break. 3. Just make a plastic handled metal centered, traditional knife with decent metal with a traditional clip.

@@joeisabella6811 blade HQ for two of them and Knifecenter for the third. This was the LRF and the Takara in carbon fiber. Actually, my first order from BladeHQ was for the CF AND the wood handle version of both of those knives, returned them, then tried again from knifecenter, returned them, tried a third time from BladeHQ again. still have problems. Also... take a look around at the photos of the LRF. Some are pictured with a deep carry pocket clip and some are not. Knifecenter shows deep carry clip but none of mine had the deep carry clip.

Update... I ordered ANOTHER LRF Carbon Fiber from AMAZON prime... and this one IS the updated version with the deep carry clip. This one is acceptable, although the detent is weaker than I would like. Honestly, I'm a little afraid to try disassembling it because I could not get the grip screws out of the other ones... Not looking to strip them.

I've owned about 5 Bokers...never been impressed with any of them. Great designs, bad execution.

Pay the full price and you won't have to complain for your 40% reduced one lmao

$70 for anything made in China is crazy. Almost everything from Chiba has quality issues.
