THE NINE GREATEST SKATEBOARD ARTISTS EVER!?

Спорт

#9 Ed Templeton - After designing his first graphic on New Deal, Templeton moves to create Toy Machine, where he's showcased his artwork through board graphics for over a decade.
#8 Evan Hecox - Responsible for creating the image and brand of Chocolate, with artwork that's so iconic: he also created the Chocolate skateboards logo, one of the most beloved in skateboarding.
#7 Don Pendelton - The creativity behind Alien Workshop, with many iconic graphics with the brand over the years. Don has since worked with Element (to create graphics for pros such as Chad Muska), and now runs his own small skateboard brand called Darkroom.
#6 Neil Blender - Arguably a pioneer for rider-created graphics. Riding for Gordon and Smith in the 80's, Neil was an inspiring creative who loves music, art, and skateboarding.
#5 Sean Cliver - Sean started working with Powell Peralta as a board designer, and early on defected to start creating graphics with World Industries and Steve Rocco. Nowadays, Sean has since collaborated with brands like Supreme, and has put out his own board company called Paisley skateboards.
#4 Jim Phillips - Creator of much of the creative identity of Santa Cruz (the screaming hand and Roskopp face graphic) as well as some of the most controversial graphics of our day: The Independent Trucks logo. He's created graphics for guys like Jason Jesse, Jeff Grosso, Natas Kaupas, and Christian Hosoi.
#3 VCJ - An iconic art style within Powell Peralta since the stone ages. VCJ created the iconic skull and sword graphic, as well as graphics for Per Wilender, Lance Mountain, and most recently, Andy Anderson.
#2 Mark "Gonz" Gonzalez - A creative genius and pro skateboarder, skater for Adidas, leader of Krooked skateboards.
#1 Mark Mckee - Iconic artist for World Industries

Yes - that is one reading of it; another is this: that it's taken these disparate artists and art styles and crafted a great list of greats into a well presented, cohesive whole - this is what I feel a top-notch magazine does, and something we are missing in this internet age. The low "entry-cost" to publishing online means "everybody has a voice" - when Its clear that silence WAS golden, meaning: Not all videos and creators are equal - but this channel does it very well, with way more-than-competent (approaching 'pro') production values, and a fairly humorous narrative voice throughout. I would rather watch these guys do a top-ten skate list, well researched and presented, than go read about the same thing - im looking for a rapid fire list, with salient points, which is read to me. Art is visual, and I think a video is sometimes superior to a list. With the reading done for you, in the form of narration, it could be argued that the visuals therfore have more meaning. A video list is also helpul in certain circumstances. For example: I can listen to this list, whilst I have a bath, where I can listen and look and learn WITHOUT having to try to teeter a precarious magazine in the bath (all the while taking far too long). This is a great video for a great number of scenarios. Cheers guys, Keep up the good work :) "LiL'JpD."

Any graphic from 80s Santa Cruz or P&P is my favorite, that's skateboard graphics at their peak. I think VISION also had some iconic "pop -art" decks like Psycho-Stick, Gonz and GATOR. IMO decks today really lack good art, I think skateboard companies should commission tattoo artists to create an entire series of decks. bring back that huge element that skateboarding is missing today.

My first deck purchased from a shop (1993-ish) was a World Industries Daewon Song (slick) with a graphic showing the Land Before Time cartoon dinosaurs. Except the stegosaurus "Spike" had a big bite mark out of his back. My mom was mortified but I loved that deck. Wish they would re-issue it. Steve Rocco was a master of putting out troll-ish/controversial deck graphics. He did so much for the industry regardless of how people feel about him. I also wanted the old school Star Wars Plan B decks.

V.C. Johnson who did all the classic Powell & Peralta boards like the Ripper, Skull & Sword, Rat Bones, McGill, Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Caballero and Guerrero. He practically defined skateboard art in the late 70s to mid 80s. Weird that there's no mention of his legendary here. Kids these days....
