Nick knows what he's doing. It's all a big stage play. The only thing that is real is his weight gain. He admitted that all of his health issues are made up. He says he is quitting mukbangs when he turns 30 this coming May. I saw some documents on another channel a year and a half ago that Nick and Orlin were buying land in Hawaii and building a home. Even if he has the ability to go back to his original tiny weight and do other things, his professional résumé is going to be hard to explain (violent videos, cursing, crying, stuffing his face, and quite a bit of porn now). Also, will his audience even follow him after this is done? If they don't, he will lose tons of income. And of course, all the weight he put on will result in excess skin and the only way to get rid of it is surgery. (He may also at some point permanently mess up his insulin response, give himself irreversible sleep-apnea, juvenile arthritis, and more. There are some obesity related illness that you cannot get rid of by losing the weight.)

Being Korean myself I can say Mukbangs are definitely weird. It’s a trend that started in South Korea in the later half of the 2000’s that was literally only about streamers eating small meals on streams while having engaging chats with viewers. This eventually gotten popular enough that it formed a community of streamers who dedicate their entire channels to ‘eating with viewers’… aka Mukbang. Some people evolved it into adding ASMR into the streams. This happened some time after Mukbangs began to spread around the international community… Some attention crazed individuals decided to add drama and shock value to their Mukbangs… one of those people is Nikocado Avocado. Funny enough, despite calling himself a drama Mukbang creator, the wider Mukbang community really dislikes him. He essentially became the face of Mukbang and is tarnishing it’s reputation. I’m not a fan of Mukbang at all but I somewhat understand what made it popular in the first place. It’s pretty chill talking to your favorite streamer in an intimate setting such as eating a small meal from the local Wendy’s. As that gotten popular, people desperate for popularity or a platform hopped aboard it and essentially gave the community a bad image. EDIT: There’s also a lot of cooking streams that are popular in South Korea, where the streamer is typically a talented cook and will cook live on stream while chatting with viewers. This is also believed to be what help start the Mukbang community.

I don’t know why they exist, or the appeal. The noises coming from the videos are worse than being waterboarded. It’s absolute agony. I’ve been told being immensely “triggered” by the sounds of people eating and slurping is a legitimate mental issue, but I don’t buy that for a damn second.

When it comes to Nikocado Avocado, I always thought that he was a look into the darker side humanity. On one hand you have a person is ruled by their own gluttony, vanity, but is driven by their insecurity. On the other hand you have a person that wants to be adored, but on the other is at war with them selves. While constantly striving to garner as much attention to fill a void within them selves, yet not matter how much they try they all ways feel that nagging pull from deep within. While I am fairly certain that the Nikocado Avocado we see on the screen is purely all an act put on for our amusement, I am sure that real Nicholas Perry is a very sad, lonely, and broken person. While they act delusional, and ignorant of their wight, and how it is affecting them it is nothing more than that. An act, nothing more than a facade put up to cover a deeply broken person who is just wanting to be accepted.

I have a theory. I have heard people mention that he could gain followers and more money if he actually started losing weight and turned the channel into a weight loss channel. Also, he used to be a vegan. I reckon he will wait until a health scare like a hesrt attack or diabetes, then start eating healthy vegan diet and working out. He could gain followers and money as a youtuber, while also promoting veganism, which is something he used to care a lot about. He could even be sponsored by a gym or a weight loss program, further increasing his income. He is obviously faking/ fake exaggerating his mental problems, and he admitted he does what he does to get views, so it would make sense for him to go ahead with my theory.

From what I hear in Korean culture eating is considered an extremely social thing, in short Mukbangs started as a way to defeat the loneliness that many felt whenever they ate their food; in the context of Korea they didn't eat this much food neither ate food this unhealthy, always having good table manners and everything like that. The western culture basically perverted the original cultural context so much to the point that it's at now. I don't watch mukbangs but understanding the cultural context you have a clear idea how this came about.

I completely agree with you: I really hate Mukbang because it’s literally weird people eating with their mouths open and loudly chowing down, almost feeling like they’re close to your ears. I did try to listen to them to get into it when it started to become somewhat popular, but couldn’t because of how gross it sounded.
