@@steelethescene I have a big sister like that, too. She hated me from my entry into this world and even told my father that I wasn't his. Why? Who knows. I tried, in vain, for years to have a relationship with her and was hurt everytime. For the longest time, I cried myself to sleep at night, because it hurt so much. I finally gave up. I told her off and went no contact for years. One year, she reached out to wish me a happy birthday, after that, we started texting birthday wishes and holiday greetings, but otherwise, we have absolutely no relationship whatsoever. I used to wonder what it would be like to have a good sister but now, eh. I've resolved it. Its her loss, and it's your sister's loss. She doesn't deserve you and you're much better off. Best wishes and many prayers for you. I don't know you, but I'm your sister in Christ and I love you. ❤️

I remember watching this show AND this particular episode when it originally aired in 1986. My parents were sprawled out on the living room furniture...my mother on the sofa, my father on the couch...my younger sister and I lying on the living room floor...and after Julia finished her monologue, my mother began singing, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence. Then my mom went into the kitchen and scooped bowlfuls of ice cream for all of us.

One touch that REALLY enriches this scene is the loving expression on Suzanne's face at 1:23, as she listens to her sister defend her so vigorously. This is my childhood from being my grandma’s house (including game shows and soap operas). I remember seeing this show as a little girl and loving it. Being from GA myself I loved seeing women on tv that sounded like the people I saw and heard everyday. I also used to love Anthony and wondered how he put up with those women everyday.

Julia Sugarbaker always protected and defended Suzanne. She's the best big sister in tv. Gorgeous, Brilliant and always Elegant/Classy, the late, great Ms. Dixie Carter. She was truly one of a kind.

One of the finest moments in telivision history! A timeless classic! And a true and acurate portrayal of gentile southern women! Dixie Carter was a classic! May this be forever her gift and her lasting legacy! They just don't make people like her anymore!!

That is how a lady absolutely destroys someone. Julia didn't say one cuss word, didn't threaten that woman. Simply told her exactly how it was and left her all but speechless.
