Here's What Really Happened To Delta Burke

Ойын-сауық

In 1986, former beauty queen Delta Burke landed a lead role on the soon-to-be hit CBS series Designing Women. For five seasons, the actor was at the top of the TV sitcom world, earning two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in the process. When her time on the show came to a dramatic end, Burke attempted to catch comedic lightning in a bottle several more times, with little success.
In more recent years, the actor has stayed largely out of the spotlight, although she is still keeping busy. From taking on Broadway to fighting for civil rights, here’s what really happened to Delta Burke.

Delta Burke was the show! She and Gerald are a true love story. The producers would be black listed in today's world, but in the past, harrassing a woman about her weight publicly, was accepted. If you were tall and plus size, you were treated like a man, in my experience anyway. You could not just enjoy the show, you were being programmed and shamed each time you watched it. The facts of life did this with Natalie character. It was the norm. It was never okay. "They shoot fat people, don't they" is the title of one episode. The one she won the Emmy for. She was brilliant. Imagine how she was treated off screen. Appreciate the people who paved the way, for your freedoms, now. 🧡✌🏻

One of the reasons I admired Reba MacIntyre was that she refused to let the producers bully Melissa when she gained weight. Whether Dekta had anything to do with that I don't know. Re Designing Women the first four were all fantastic actresses.

A trail blazer, she single handedly set the stage for every woman, man and child in the world , Every show we watch today, every music video we watch today, every clothing store we go in today, has big beautiful woman, back in the day this was never a loud, childhood stars were put on meds, that's crazy, large women, large children we had to catalog shop,we didn't shop in stores, sears came out with husky pants for boys, and portly dresses for girls, Delta Burke, I would walk in your shoes anyday.

People need to stop believing that performing women “belong” to culture and society. So many folks can be so critical of beauty. Everything has to be exactly right. They have to appeal to society in all ways all the time. If the performer doesn’t? They get eviscerated. That’s so harmful 😬

I loved Delta Burke when I was a child. I just so happened to be born sort of pretty, and I gravitated towards her character because she acted like someone around my age would act. I wished to be pretty enough to be in pageants, but I was too shy to even ask my mom. Let alone do the pageant. Now, re-watching DW, I see the pain she had to go through in seasons 2 and 3, so far. The writers are constantly having her "be hungry" and eat on camera. But, she doesn't even look fat! They did do psychological warfare on her! I am a Psychology major, specializing in trauma recovery, with my master's and half of my PhD under my belt. I am also someone who eats my feelings when I am recovering from trauma. Poor Delta. What a bright sunspot she was for all of us. God Bless Her ♥🙏☀
