BEFORE YOU ROAST ME! ‘Outplay’ was the wrong word to use for the Islanders in game 2. What I meant to articulate was that it must be demoralizing for the islanders to have had a 3-0 lead & come out empty handed. Especially because game 1, I thought the Islanders carried the pace of play for a good 40/45 minutes. Carolina was in a league of their own in period 2/3 & it showed both analytically & visually. …Now you can roast me 😂

I agree actually. The Isles outplayed the Canes in game 1, but the Canes dominated 40 minutes of Game 2 (I'm a Canes fan). The Canes have a LETHAL powerplay unit that the Isles' terrible PK unit can't stop. And the Canes just have that last minute DOG in them

The Islanders did not outplay the Canes in game 2 of the playoffs. Game 1, totally agree, game 2, absolutely not. 39 SoG to 12. 108 shot attempts to 28. Total puck domination. If Freddie played relatively well the game would have been a blowout.
@tomblade
22 күн бұрын
yeah, how can you outplay a team while having 3 times less shots on goal?!
@ZinfuGaming
22 күн бұрын
Yeah, to say that the Islanders outplayed the Canes in game 2 means that someone just checked the score and watched the goals and didn't pay attention to anything else. Freddie didn't play great, but the flipside to that is that the Cane's defense broke down in front of him on two of those. On the first goal especially. Palmeri is in alone against Andersen with 3 black shirts around him and no escape. It was blown coverage. Now Freddie, should've controlled that rebound, that's twice his puck control has cost us a goal in two game, but that's an easy nitpick. Palmeri shouldn't have been in his house for seconds with black shirts all around him. 3rd goal, Freddie also should've stopped. However; it was blown coverage that again let a talented player in front of Freddie by himself for moments. Freddie needed to play to the moment, but the Canes needed to be less lackadaisical on D in the first half of the game. If we would've had some of those pucks that hit the post go in, it also would've been a blowout. I think the Canes hit 5 posts.

Claiming the islanders "outplayed Carolina in the first 2 games" means you didn't watch the games. Isles had no shots in game 2 until 6 mins left. They had 1 shot in the entire 3rd period and only 14 for the game. They blocked a lot of shots but were dominated in zone time, shots, face offs, etc. Game 1 they played close, and blocked a ton of shots, but were beaten in all aspects of the game including goal tending.

great video
Red Wings fan here, but I'm rooting for Edmonton. McDavid is insane and deserves a cup ASAP.
I hope the leafs keep it up. In the stats, we’ve always been the better team. Even game one, the win-or-meter said we win that game 80% of the time. Our mistakes cost us. The second and third period of game 2 was the first time it really showed. We played great and forced our hockey style, and Boston was out there looking lost like they didn’t know what to do to stop it. If we can keep that up, stay out of the box, and shut down any adjustments the bruins make I think we stand a good chance of making it though the series.
The Leafs should have put Nylander on LTIR, apparently being on there allows extra healing powers like recovering from a lacerated spleen in just 26 days.
Gotta go with the Leafs for the biggest surprise. Not only did they win game 2, but they looked like a bona fide playoff team doing it. I'm surprised you didn't comment, "The NHL hasn't seen this since 1993." The REAL surprise will be if they can sustain the play. Loved the Hyman Hat trick and Vegas for playing the rules to their advantage proving why "The House" never loses.
Tuesday and a Sunday video man it feels nice to be blessed :p
the leafs post period 1 in game 2 was probably the best i have ever seen them play.
Thanks for saying this because I haven’t watched the playoffs yet lol
Saying the islanders arguably outplayed Carolina in the first two games is a wild take tbh. The first game? Sure, canes got outplayed. Second game? I don't think 110-28 split in shot attempts favoring the canes could be spun as Carolina getting outplayed. Carolina absolutely dominated the islanders in game 2, the isles looked like Darla's fish in a bag in Finding Nemo. Completely rocked with no escape, all the isles could do was pray. The isles had 1 shot in 34 minutes!! of ice time.
Nothing can be done about Stone and Vegas. I think more teams will likely consider doing the same thing until the next CBA (Assuming it's addressed)

As a Flames fan, I gotta say the oilers game was wild
God bless the Stars.
The Oilers-Kings game felt a bit iffy at times. There was a moment at which the Kings had cut the lead down to 4-2 nearly 30 minute left to play and it looked like they had captured the momentum. The Oilers got lucky with a disallowed goal off a hand, and the Kings got lucky with a flukey deflection off Nurse's skate, and Ceci's stick breaking at the worst moment.

What are your thoughts on review of some of the advanced stats for these games? For Canes/Islanders Game 2 you note that NY seemed to control much of the game but Carolina ended up with triple the scoring chances. I'm curious because it's easier to look at these stats over a larger sample size and draw conclusions, and in particular the Canes have been advanced stats darlings for a while but haven't lived up to it. In your opinion how should we weigh stats such as Corsi/Fenwick, xGF% etc. ?

The Islanders definitely did not outplay the Hurricanes in game 2. The SOG was 12-39 in favor of the Hurricanes. In the last 30 minutes of the game the Islanders only got one shot off. Shot attempts were 110-28 in favor of the Hurricanes. The vast majority of the game was spent in the Islanders zone, after the Islanders 3rd goal the Hurricanes just didn't let them touch the puck again. If the Islanders won it would've been a fluke
