That's crazy the NFL is so wealthy its almost criminal. Back in Ireland our national sport is Gaelic and when a player is seriously injured and will be affected for life all 26 county clubs donate 100 thousand each and sometimes more if he will need specialist care for life.and that's without asking or requesting a discussion. These players have our respect and gratitude for giving everything for our national sport and culture. It's sad you're players are not taken care of in the same way. but on the other hand NFL players get paid a fortune whereas Gaelic players do it for free. NOW THAT'S PASSION AND PATRIOTISM

I imagine that it's a lot like people who complain that social security isn't enough money to get by, a lot of us will say "Why didn't you invest in a 401k or other retirement plan?" Well I ask this of a workforce where the minimum salary is $480k a year, maybe you should put a little of that money away for a rainy day, make sure you have some level of job security (I.e. you're good enough to stay in the NFL), I get that buying your momma a house is a nice gesture but make sure that doesn't bite you in the ass later.

@@alexandercanella4479 They may make millions on paper.. but, many will not have the money to cover their injuries in the future, their house payments with proper taxes or anything else. What fewer people realize is that these players once signed for a contract, might be good for 1-5yrs at the most. Others are outliers if they go longer. The quarterback for instance aren't as liable to sustain CTE's as their linemen, the centers, the running backs. One can only make football helmets as safe as practically possible, but it's still not good enough for someone traveling top speed weighing 250+ lbs, headbutting you. What of the neck injuries that back up fluid into the brain? Then there are the sub-entities that feed from the players coming out of college AND high school... The hoes, the schmoes, the real estate developers who want to invest their money, the drug dealers, the accountants (who have control of their money once they sign), the expenses on the road, security, food, lodging, travel, agents, you name it.. it comes out before they see it. Sure, they give them money to blow on one dream house for their mama. But if they become injured, that's it. And if they only have a high school education, or barely got through college, what can they fall back on?

A common mistake (propagated by many movies and video games) is that if the outer armor (e.g. the skull) doesn't crack then everything inside will survive. That's the equivalent of saying if I put a hamster in a metal box, throw it against a concrete wall, but the box doesn't crack then the hamster must be fine. A football helmet and a skull may not crack, but the g-force of the brain hitting against the inside of the skull can still kill you! And that's just a direct hit. It doesn't even address the much more dangerous forces associated with a sudden twist of the head that no helmet can protect you from!

Brain damage from a traumatic brain injury or TBI, can if not destroy your life plans, it can surely derail those future plans for a decade or longer. As a TBI survivor I speak from experience. Now people who follow boxing , are already aware of the consequences of multiple concussions, and the changes that occur because of said concussions. The NBA needs to study the lives of retired boxers to discover the consequences of multiple concussions and head injuries. Although in the near future this may not happen because the millions of dollars made in football, and the bribes offered to hide the consequences.

My big issue isn't the penalties for "hitting too hard" but it's that it's always the defenders fault, how many times have you seen a guy catch a ball and then immediately start to turtle up and fall down meanwhile the guy who's going to tackle him, the guy who was going to get him right around the waist ends up hitting him square in the head. Or as instituted last year falling on the QB too hard (Aaron Rodger rule) which has absolutely NOTHING to do with head injury, as a guy like Clay Matthews what he thinks about "falling to hard" on someone.

Ex NFL player used to come into the restaurant I worked at every day for breakfast. The level of brain damage this guy had was so heartbreaking, he could barely function. He could barely manage to come across the street from his apartment and order the exact same thing every day without getting super confused. (His order had been taken off the menu a couple years earlier but he flipped out when we would try and tell him that so we just let him order what he wanted)

it's the same thing boxers have. CTE was called dementia pugilustica in the past. look up Jerry Quarry, he was a pro boxer, who fought the likes of Muhammad Ali. there's a video on him where he's being inducted in the Boxing hall of fame, the state he was in at the time was devastating.

Idk which one is worse the wwe not giving wrestlers health insurance and having insane amount of early deaths OR the nfl with this CTE problem where athletes are just now becoming aware of the consequences AND kids across the country work their whole lives to make it to the nfl (most definitely don't but still take enough hits to get CTE in alot of cases) and if they do make it they'll play and develop CTE over their career! the crazy part is there is no fix for it because its not just about the big hits they show us on replays its the small every play hit linemen take in practice that add up and cause CTE...we dont have padding in our skulls that prevents our brain from impact the helmets only pad the outside of our skulls. point blank period.
