Im going to have to say j1mmy. Jagex putting a new skill into leagues where thousands of players (probably more considering a brand new skill in game) could beta test without effecting the main game (finding bugs, glitches, broken exp rates) and get tons of feedback from these players to improve the skill before its implementation into main game makes too much sense. Jagex wont even consider it.

“By Re-Leagues” Make it happen, Jagex.

Random events popping up all over the world is something that featured in RS2-3. It was a great way for players to congregate to complete an objective. One of the best ones was Warbands, where you would go to a random location in the wilderness, raid an NPC camp which required at least half a dozen people to clear in a reasonable amount of time, and then fill your inventory full of McGuffins that could be converted into XP when taken to some guy on the safe side of the wilderness ditch.

I love the Pest Control idea! You could even expand on it for a league and treat it like a “world boss” style event where something pops out with varying difficulty. One might be a pest control outbreak, and you could scale it all the way up through tiers to inferno monsters. Basically anything instanced would break free in a set zone and it would be treated like a mass raid like at Nex where more contribution means more loot chances. I think that would be sick for the madness server idea

I remember coming back to RS3 when The World Wakes came out, and seeing Saradomin and Zamorak standing 40 ft tall in Lumbridge Castle's backyard blew my mind. This is 100% something I would love to see happen in a League.

RS3 had demon invasions recently due to the new update. Would probably be something similar to that. I'm personally in favor of it, but the issue I've got is that the events are usually exclusive to max level players or close to it. I want players of all levels to be able to contribute. Even for combat events.

could be like a boss of varying difficulty spawns based on how many pest control mobs were killed, cuz you'd likely have more people so you'd want a bigger boss. so like everything from a KBD soloable boss if youre the only one doing it to like a nex 40 person styled boss.

Played a game with a similar thing back in 200X. Some monsters would invade a territory and players could go there and claim rewards for defending it while other players could go and help the attack. This was mostly PVE but there was a pvp area included. They had a super fun territory system too. Twice a day mobs in an area around the game would rise up, a guild could go there and conquer the area. They'd get cool rewards until they lose the territory after the mobs rise up again like copies of misc low value drops. I swear old mmo's have so many fun mechanics modern mmo's just toss aside to add more grindy elements instead.

I used to play a lot of an MMO called Dofus and they released an official server called Shika that basically only started with the intro region and as weeks and months go by, a new region opens up and everyone scrambles for that region and makes content extremely alive and enjoyable and something like this could work in OSRS or even for the By Release concept where a new quest comes out every so often.

So much has already been established it's a constant game of catch up Release of regions like this would bring so much life back to the game. Nostalgia, too. As someone who works for Qualtrics (the software that Jagex runs their survey's on) this drives me insane. I'm about to donate my free time to help them design and distribute these in a better way. There are way too many good ideas out there for them to insert a survey link in a post no one is looking at and call it a day.

RE a "By release" league, I thought they could do something like Leagues 2, where instead of unlocking content in a few regions, you could unlock content released in a few different years. Like sure you can access TOB, but if you didn't unlock the year slayer was released, you're doing it with a d scim. Probably some stronger examples but you get my drift.

Time attack mode: You start fresh, cutscene with the duke of Lumbridge explaining the Elvarg attack in Crandor, then you progress as normal but you have 24 Hours of in-game time to complete Dragon Slayer 1 before Elvarg destroys the map. Could be a fun speed run league people could keep redoing trying to beat (their own) times

oh boy, the One Man Army intro. That was the first properly runescape video I've watched a long time ago and that series was the reason I started playing OSRS

using leagues or temp servers as a sandbox testing ground would be amazing. basically a beta server and they can start peoples stats at what ever they want to for what they want to test. then after beta testing and getting initial feedback, yeet it in a leagues temp gamemode so people can get a feel for it in a more "realistic" setting. then main game if people want it

I always wished there was an actual factions system. You can use the gods in the game for the different factions and have specific quests for whichever one you join. PvP against other players from other factions etc.

Its easy to come up with ideas like these. They take seconds to come up with but what people don't think about is how much dev time a lot of these ideas rquire. The by release leagues idea would take a MASSIVE amount of dev time to create. Every single item/quest/area/NPC/dialouge would have to be crosschecked for their release date. Then programmed to show up in the game. It would take a hell of a lot of dev time to create an instanced version of the game for a whole years worth of updates. Unless the updates were released in real time where everyone would experience them at the same time, you'd still have to do all of that work of separating everything. Not to mantion, would they also rework items to have specs that they used to have before nerfs? Would areas be reworked to look how they used to? Seems like way too much work.

Comment above me is right. The sheer amount of impossible things that come with a by release type game mode could get us actual real content instead of epic temporary game mode content. I feel like leagues saps so much dev time out of the actual main game and it's one of the reasons major updates have stagnated hard the last few years.

The ideas are good but I agree with the above 2 comments. I doubt jagex’s codebase is scalable enough for a by release league to happen within any reasonable amount of time.

How much love for this game you have shows in the amount of good ideas you’ve had for it over the years. New skill in leagues is perfect - high number of people, boosted XP lets people examine the endgame of the skill and the methods/rewards, and they can really go nuts with it as they don’t have to worry about it bleeding into the main game before it’s ready.

Woooooow. Just Wow, Jimmy. This is great. The fact you came up with the Pest Portal idea. That was beautiful by itself.

That whole Seasonal Madness at 16:30 with the pest control portals is basically Guild Wars 2 from 2013. I didn't play OSRS back in 2013 because I was busy playing GW2 instead and it was glorious in the first few years. Really felt like a new and innovative mmo with seasonal world events that dynamically (and sometimes permanently) changed some parts of the game.

I especially love the idea of more experimenting in servers that don’t affect the main game (especially if we could multilog so we can keep playing our main, but I know that probably sells fewer memberships). Play testing a new skill as it’s being developed would be such a fun experience, and the current update and polling system just doesn’t seem to encourage more creative, outrageous ideas at Jagex.

I like a lot of your ideas and agree with almost all of them, however, I'd really like to see a few permanent vanilla servers to play on every once in a while.

I had an idea for a "God Wars" league similar to your Pest Control idea. At the beginning you choose a starting relic and a god. You gain boons from your god by doing tasks related to your god, and fighting minions of other gods that emerge from portals that appear randomly all over the overworld. Access to certain equipment, items, or areas could be granted or blocked off depending on your choice.

I feel like the idea of Ironman scaled league rewards could be interesting, cause the 3 types of Ironman, you can have increased reward points for being uim, or after a certain check point, if you're still a hard core you get a boost, ect.

Hear me out on the permanent leagues worlds: have those worlds rotate between past leagues every 2 months or so and then just have the worlds swap to the year's new league when it comes out. It gives players a chance to experience leagues that they missed. Even those who did play the league could try out another approach or experience content they didn't get the chance to before. Because you still only have the one new league a year and there won't be a fully permanent leagues server competing with it, nothing is taken away from that year's new league.

Agreed. I can see a static permanent world getting rather boring very quick. Also if they had to dedicate a world to every league for all regions we have 15 worlds dedicated to this.

The pest control idea is very similar to things we already have in Runescape 3. In RS3 there are demon flash mobs and goblin raids, suited to higher and lower level player respectively. I could totally see OSRS getting something like that as well. It'd be nice if containing those random portals gave pest control points so players could get pest control rewards without repeating the minigame a mind-numbing amount of times.

Also the random Pest Control portals sounds like a cool idea. Like Oblivion Gates in ES4!

absolutely love your vision of deadman mode tasks and bounty hunter. i don't regularly pvp but i'd be hyyyyped to play that

A better version of the no GE idea is a "Grand Bazaar" where you can teleport to a bunch of player stocked market stalls that work cross world. You get all the functionality of the GE but you have to manage a stall or physically navigate to where you need stuff from

I want to see a ChunkManMode but with normal league tasks. Instead of completing all content in a chunk, you complete general tasks to get points that you then spend to unlock more chunks. Unique progression paths and balances traditional leagues with chunkman style gameplay

@@Tom21369 They let people choose their regions on Trailblazer but everyone started in Lumby. Last year everyone started in Catherby for Shattered. Either way, letting people choose between a handful of starting chunks would help.

With the pest control idea, I'm pretty sure RS3 literally just had something similar to hype up Zamorak becoming a boss. I didn't get to play myself but I believe the general gist was that portals would appear around the map and you had to fend off demons appearing from them. It honestly sounded pretty fucking cool, so i'd love to see osrs do it with pest control instead.

Several of the ideas J1mmy had were things that RS3 has been doing. I've been playing it for about a month now to see how different things are. I think there are some really good ideas that OSRS could take and adapt.

The Easy x Hard mode league sounds absolutely sick, i would love that. It would make every type of player happy imo.

I’ve always thought they should make leagues kind of permanent. Have 2 months where they have like 10 worlds then after two months it goes to 1-2 worlds for the current leagues. Then when the new one comes out they get rid of the previous one and do the same and repeat. That way when people max/get bored they have the option to move back to the regular game. And the people that don’t have as much time can still have a chance to max in leagues.

I love the concept of easy mode, I have no time to grind but still want to progress and play the game. It would be great to be an easymode ironman or just an easymode server where you can play with only having adult free time

Yeah honestly. Im so put off by the idea of grinding and grinding stuff out only to face the irritatingly difficult inferno. Yet id love to go for drops, grind out quests, and all that. Ironman easy mode would make me play the game 100%

Vanilla 2007 I have wanted for a long while, and there is a more of a sense of community in my opinion. Because alot of the changes OSRS has added, also are contributing factors to isolating the playerbase in lots of ways. Though funnily enough, it is also one of the reasons also why Ironman mode is beloved, because in some aspects that feature was reflective of the Vanilla OSRS with a main account or something like Group Ironman. Why do you think players play on those modes alot? Not to mention alot of the content that OSRS has added, especially with content like Zulrah, felt like an added private server feature that is tolerated and also ruined alot of the economy when that was a big deal back then. The nerfs to blowpipe and all came way too late and to it's drops as well. It is not just nostalgia, but the entire feeling and playstyle of the game that I like.

@@c4ke_rs You have to realize the percentage of people that actually do Theatre of Blood or Inferno might be about the same percentage as people doing PVP, most of the people aren't doing, but most people do Barrows. Barrows in Vanilla OSRS was rushed, but not for endgame, rather a way to get decent tank gear for bosses like Dagannoths, etc. With Vanilla, you also had less gear to rely upon to also do those bosses. It was also the reason why for instance the Godswords were so expensive. Also, God Wars Dungeon did exist during 2007, implementing it would be alright (since that was just few months past) in my book along with resizable mode, but otherwise not much else.

I think they should re-release the old leagues on their own worlds permanently! I want to play twisted league again!

The pest control idea reminds me of the Tuska world event in RS3, and the more recent abyssal invasion where abyssal monsters broke through portals to the mainland/world and were popping up everywhere. Awesome fun

8:35 Partyhats weren't even in OSRS in 2013 Jagex was hesitant on introducing them and finally did so a couple years later in large masses.

I would love a time restricted mode, like every account gets to play an hour a day. A fun part of leagues is rushing in the beginning to make progress but that gets less fun when people play 14 hours a day, if time is restricted it could make the high scores competitive for a much longer time and make theory crafting much more importantly

honestly an actual runescape server on "easy mode" would bring me back to the game again. The opportunity to do the things that i can't give the time or effort to easier and experience the game again would be fantastic. Would be cool to be able to relax and play again instead of having the grind mentality and worry about xp rates because i can only play for an hour

your portal idea reminds me of zamorak's demon invasions that happend around cities for two weeks a little over a month ago. The rewards where great, but people quickly stopped to bother or it didn't make em return untill the boss came out

That pest control idea is like the base concept of the game Rift, and it was really fun

Your pest control idea is really cool for a holiday event type deal in the main game, it would be really fun. Also I made sure to tell Jagex about wanting a By Release league on the poll, and on top of that, I want a league to use the Group Ironman mechanics, don't make leagues into regular accounts but Group Iron league could be a ton of fun and with 2 different rankings for thropies at the end, regular trophies based on player score and group trophies for ranked group iron teams who never had team changes (Kinda like the status they have in the main game).

I mean you could even do a general invasion league, with goblins and any type of burrowing enemy, even something like black knight and vampires based on location.

Thanks for this video, J1mmy. I was definitely drinking the internet koolaid of being pretty down about the survey and the future of leagues, but you pointed out some great ideas and potential paths to take, and I'm hype. Love the content!

There was websites where you could merch items, you would put the specific item/price/location to find you or username, and they worked well.

I got super burned out on the main game after playing the latest league, but having a permanent League server? That's a dream come true for a newbie like me that hasn't played in years. There's no way I can beat bosses on the main game, but on leagues with handicaps? You betcha I can! It'd be a great way for us to experience the game longterm and achieve dreams thatd be otherwise unattainable or take years.

For the “Fresh Start” idea I actually think it’s a great idea since there’s a lot of interest in PVM world firsts. I think it would help a lot if the accounts were initially locked to the fresh server, but then at some point the server rotates. But instead of resetting the accounts, they could then be made accessible from the normal game worlds, meaning you don’t lose all the progress for that account.

Agreed, a fresh start server would get me playing on a non iron again, at least for a bit. It'd be exciting getting expensive items early on, like getting a d chain back in the day during original runescape

Your description of vanilla '07 servers was my actual reaction to WoW classic servers. Amazing and extremely nostalgic. . . for about an hour then you say f this and go back to retail.
