I still think that's the original shoes where way better to go around casualy in the city, with a nice designed shoe.. skate on the bag walking or biking to do some street. That's the only reason why I never bought the shadow, that sad cause I love the skate, but it as lost is purpos 😭

So funny you just posted this. I was heavily researching the xsjado 2.0 over the weekend and found a pair while scouring the internet. I saw these while I was researching but decided to try and find the originals.

I’ve got both colourways of the Enin Shadows. The black ones are 1 year old now and one of the metal rivets that holds the toe strap in place does rattle since I bailed quite obscurely and bent it slightly - But I didn’t have any audible nuisances from skating either model until that bail. The toe strap doesn’t overhang and there are no unnecessary moving parts for me while skating/landing. They have the slick and muffled sounds like you’re landing on a cloud. My best pros: -Absolutely 0 pressure points, can skate hours with no ankle pain like previous skates/liners gave me. - insanely supportive yet doesn’t restrict my ability to boot down in H-block tricks and topsides. - No Heel lift and feel super responsive to what my feet want to do (tinker around with the different ways you can have them setup, even lacing differently can make a pressure point disappear) -Look great (subjective) Having Both models means I can “Frankenshadow” the parts for fun customisation. Cons: Landing from gaps/drops will feel different to skating a hard shell, feel them out and adjust as necessary - if you fall over a lot/skate very rough and gritty spots, I could see the external parts getting damaged quicker than you’d like. (An excuse to improve consistency if anything) -The Black Eclipse SEEMS slightly more narrow around the widest part of my foot than the new model being shown in the video, even though they’re the same size. These are the best skates I’ve had and feel amazing for the type of skating I do, hope this may help someone if they’re considering this Shadow model!

You forgot the last con maybe you never experienced it yet, I used to skate xsjados a lot back when they were owned by Salomon. That con is you can really smash the fvck out of your toes lmao. Either by accidentally stepping on your own toes or bailing weird and hitting the exposed parts of your feet on a rail or ledge. Hurts pretty damn bad, you find out how much real pressure goes into your tricks at the point of your feet. Other than that they are truly great, amazing really. I learned so much in them.

The tongue not being wide enough does cause an issue for me at times. If the tongue is positioned to one side I end up with an eyelet ring putting pressure on my skin and causing a bad cut/pressure point. hopefully eugen enin sees this and makes the tongue wider for the next iteration

honestly I could use a Shadow without the bigger sole plates. Shadows would be perfect with smaller sole plates, a softer upper boot/liner, and a set of 80-110mm wheels. I'd rather use them as travel skates for sight seeing. Like traveling to Tokyo and being able to swap between walking and skates effortlessly. I can cruise along the streets taking in the sights, and if I want to stop to go into a store, museum, temple, restaurant I just take the skate part off. I think the shadow would work better as a travel skate than an aggressive one

It's not the first time I'm saying this and it ain't gonna be the last time. They should come with a conversion-kit. A 45° strap with integrated tongue AND a separate cuff-padding so we can use normal shoes. I also came with the idea to sell a Epic grind shoe collab-package. How cool would that be. A Shadow with epic shoes in them 🔥✌️

Hey Ricardo, great spot for the review. Could I ask what the width is like, the boot looks similar to Chuck's? Or can you recommend skates for those of us with wide feet? My 908's are too slim and I'm nowhere near a skate store. Thanks in advance ✌️

I think it's best to avoid any Shadows as much as possible, since there is no spare parts available on the market for any models they produce. And this is 6 months after the release? Same for the Eugen Enin pro model they released in 2021. Once that velcro strap on top gets loose, you have no skates.

The tongue no longer being attached to the rachet ankle strap looks to create a proper disconnect for me. That strap floating about as you flex forwards seems odd. The original Xsjado, minus the mooks and the two piece soul is the perfect design for me. They seem to be tinkering with the skate needlessly so it seems ‘new’ 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @negue9

Nope! I tested these new improvements but also Skated the original xsjado for many years when I was younger, always breaking parts, alsways discomfort because the padding didn’t last long, Velcro beeing shit, cuffs breaking all the time and yes, all that with the Salomon produced xjsados… The new liner and tongue finally create a more steady feeling in combination with the 1.0 cuff and also with the Velcro helps to totally eliminate the heelift. If you want more direct feeling in the upper area and less „floating“ strap just tighten it more lol. I totally get all the nostalgia for the OG xsjado but did you tested it again since back then? And also compared it directly to the new one without just „assuming“ it’s bad? I did :) that’s why we improved it :)

@@negue9 Hey Eugen, thanks for replying! Big fan of your skating! I’ve skated the Original Xsjado’s, the 2.0 and other iterations of the skate. I’ve seen a few pairs of the recent models last week at a local skatepark. I could see as the skater flexed forward the strap had the opportunity to almost move, and allow more of the tongue to reach above the strap, this wouldn’t have been the case when it was attached to the tongue. I’m sure it’s negligible but it looked noticeable. I never really had a problem with heel lift personally or the skate failing/breaking. I have rounded the odd bolt when adjusting fit and have broken the ankle ratchet straps before, but that’s an exposed part due to the design of the skate and is expected with lots of use. I personally prefer the 1 piece soul plate and felt that was an improvement but I’m not convinced the change to a boot rather than a foot-wrap/cuff padding is the way forward. Just a personal opinion! I also liked the tongue being connected and having some plastic in it and the straps tightening from both sides. We all have particular preferences when it comes to sporting equipment. Glad you are happy with the changes you’ve made and congrats on the skate x

100% agree. But also agree with Eugen about the older ones falling apart so easily. That's part of the reason I moved on from xsjados is because I kept having to replace stuff, and back then it was hard to get parts sometimes, so there was times I had to hit up the hardware store to keep skating them because I couldn't get a new strap or whatever, ntm the way they sold replacement parts...ughh it was annoying. So I think Eugen changes make them probably more robust which definitely makes me want to have these again and see how his changes feel. Xsjados and USD carbons are the best skates I've ever skated, and I'm trying to decide which I'm gonna get to get back into skating.
